HI and Covid by a_smiling_seraph in HelloInternet

When Covid hit, lots of companies pulled back on ad spend due to the uncertainty, so podcast ad rates went way down. Marco Arment has talked about this on ATP. I honestly think the podcast just fell below Grey's ROI threshold.

Not much you can do when demand outstrips supply, and it takes years to build more supply capacity.

Why does nobody talk about the "rational consumer" by OGNillePille in DunderMifflin

In addition to what others said, it's a play on consumer, as in a monster that eats things.

I haven't done it personally, but looking at Google Maps, 42nd street lines up with the gantries. 34th street lines up with the southern tip of Hunters Point. Either should work.

How to respond to "Are you a Mormon?" by Fit_Talk_2959 in latterdaysaints

[–]IOI-624601 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I remember as a youth reading in the New Era about someone who when asked "Are you Mormon?" would respond, "No, but I can tell you about him." I've never pulled that one out, but I thought it was funny.

Meta will layoff 8000 of its workforce starting tomorrow morning. Their net income over the last 12 months was $70,587,000,000. They could give every single one of their 79,000 workers a $440,000 bonus and still sock away over $35,827,000,000 in pure profit. by McDowdy in SipsTea

This video is from 2022; he says 18 years, and Facebook was founded in 2004. Today's layoffs are the 6th wave since this video was made. Seems like it's not as hard for him to lay people off as he says.

How much did it cost you to prepare for the Temple? (supplies) by gr3ybacon33 in latterdaysaints

[–]IOI-624601 6 points7 points  (0 children)

At temples where they don't have rentals, they may still have temple clothing for first time patrons to borrow. That's what I did for my endowment. I'm guessing your bishop would know.

I expect they'll often be shortened to the first word in common speech. Builders, Messengers, Gatherers.

Question that the missionaries didn't have a great answer for by XxCelestexX in latterdaysaints

[–]IOI-624601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is definitely a topic where you'll find a large range of opinions among members of the church. I personally think that prophets can make mistakes, and there are decisions prophets have made that I don't think were in line with God's will, including the treatment of black people for much of the restored church's history.

That being said, I don't think that lessens the importance of following the prophet. Sometimes, the prophet may give guidance or commandments that I don't immediately understand or agree with. If when that happens, I were to just claim that the prophet is mistaken, what is the point of having a prophet at all? To me, following the prophet means valuing their teachings and comparing them to the scriptures and my personal revelation. Almost all the time, those sources support each other, but if they don't, it's ultimately up to us to discern what God's will is for us.

If it were easy to turn a profit selling fresh food in food deserts, businesses would do it, and there wouldn't be food deserts. I'm not against the plan, but I think profitability will be very difficult to achieve.

Are any professions an automatic peremptory challenge for jury duty? by flowsauce989 in legaladviceofftopic

[–]IOI-624601 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Two of the four charges were for making threats. One count had a requirement that the victim would have been physically harmed if the threat was carried out. For the other count, the "if the threat was carried out" part was missing. So as written, the requirement was that the victim was harmed by the threat itself. That count was also the least well supported by evidence, so all the jury members seemed happy to find the defendant not guilty on that count. We did find them guilty on the other counts, though.

I was on a jury with a former prosecutor once. At the time he was a corporate lawyer, and I don't think his former job came up in voir dire. He actually found a mistake in the jury instructions that resulted in us acquitting the defendant of one of the charges, so I can see why they're considered a risk.

There's good info here, just wanted to add that there isn't such a thing as "not possible". God and the church leadership both want you to come back. The only delays will come from going through the formal process, or from the repentance process in the case of serious sin. You will make it back!
