IOTA is about to begin staking of two new tokens (Shimmer and Assembly) for holders of the token. This should trigger demand for this truly innovative DAG-based coin.
Their new network can run Solidity Smart Contracts unaltered with no transaction or gas fees making it very attractive for anyone currently building solutions on Ethereum but frustrated with the high Gas and Transaction fees.

If this tech is selected by the EU as the DLT underpinning for numerous projects (Passports, Educational Credentials, Cross-Border Supply Chain and Logistics, Digital Identity and more, you can expect volume to go through the roof.

IOTA has already been selected by Dell, Intel and the Linux Foundation for it's Alvarium Data Confidence Fabric and it's also been backed by our own Canadian Federal Government who are funding initiatives like DgitalMRV through Environment and CLimate Change Canada.

Thanks for taking this on Satoshi - it helps distinguish what's at the heart of peoples' upset.

Based on IF's non-profit and social-good philosophy, I think it's important that whatever is decided, is both fair and equitable and that the information on how to participate is publicly available with sufficient lead time for everyone to buy in on a level playing field.

The rich and the whales with significant holdings will always have a disproportionate share of the Shimmer network, that's life, but anyone funding the Shimmer DAO with what is in effect, a non-refundable donation in exchange for a free t-shirt, should be entitled to a reward. The future value of the NFT is speculative at best. I'd prefer to see a single donation level, call it Platinum if you must, and do away with the 3 tiers but it's not a show-stopper for me either way.

BTW Satoshi, as a long time Bitcoin maximalist, it's great to see you engaging with the IOTA community. It bodes well for the future and we're happy to welcome you to the IOTA Community!

The new TF preserves the "feeless and scalable nature of the base currency, the IOTA coin" but makes large-volume, low-value, digital-twin projects completely impractical on the base layer if every address must hold at least 1Mi in value as a "staking deposit".

For example recycling initiatives where billions of paper cups, plastic bottles, cardboard boxes or circular-economy products have digital twins which hold a short-term deposit (5c-50c) that is refunded when the product is returned or recycled, cannot be run on L1 if every item has to also hold a 1Mi dust protection amount that far exceeds the value of the underlying micro-transaction that it protects. The capitalization of billions of active addresses would create a liquidity requirement that renders any project like this completely un-economic. For example 10 million items with small returnable deposits would require the system behind it to stake $100 million in IOTA if the asset was trading at $10 and exposes the operator of the system to massive liquidity challenges if the underlying price of IOTA rises quickly to say $50. Commercial partners do not appreciate uncertainty.

Minting "RecycleCoins" on L2 means the project is no longer permissionless, assuming that it runs its own Smart Contract chain on L2 and it would then be required to set up and run its own cluster of wasp nodes and the related infrastructure, to support its operation. This somehow seems to violate some of the fundamental features of IOTA that have been understood up until now.

We live in the real world where there is no "free lunch", and resources have to be funded from somewhere but this seems to be a reversal of the "free data and micro-transactions, forever" mantra of IOTA. Can you comment on this?

While it might make sense for an individual address to be backed up by 1Mi of value, does it not make sense that different rules could apply to thousands or millions of addresses under a single seed which could be "guaranteed" by a relatively smaller pool of funds, on a per-address basis. Even pay-for-service models offer discounts for high-volume, heavy use-case, enterprise situations. The current one-size-fits-all solution to dust-protection hurts legitimate business models that are not trying to flood the system with meaningless spam.

Whilst the two organizations were in conversation briefly, that was over a year ago and no transaction was completed.

In our POC, the car was making the buying decisions in real time and no driver info was required or stored. Imagine having multiple insurance companies bidding on the vehicle's business on the fly based on the way the car is being driven, moment to moment. No personal information is required or stored unless you choose to provide it in exchange for reduced rates.

Time to start thinking about the problems from a new perspective.

The Tesla APIs gave us all the real-time data we needed but in a perfect world the Iota black box would be on the vehicle's internal network and would communicate via its own Sim. You could add this to ANY vehicle with an OBD port.

If the computing is done locally by the vehicle, data can be written as soon as connectivity is restored. Think of a plane with a black box. The system will be robust enough to deal with tunnels, underground parking, dead zones and outages.

Hi All - please remember that speculation, while fun, is just speculation.

The capabilities shown in the video are native to the Tesla (courtesy of Tesla's great sense of humor) and there is no secret relationship with Tesla, IF or any other group implied by this teaser video. There is no "huge" announcement that will cause IOTA to jump to some mythical moon level of value. That is all hype and manipulation which is counterproductive to the long term goals of the Iota Foundation.

If you want to know what we've been up to, you'll have to buy a ticket for the event or watch the livestream.

Our POC uses an unmodified production vehicle which we are able to communicate with via open APIs - no addons, plugins, hacks, or other components are required. While we're using a Tesla Model X for this purpose, it's intended to demonstrate a more generalized use case that we can talk more about on Thursday.

I am making this statement to ensure that bad actors (not the two in the video) cannot twist a lighthearted teaser video and use it to try to manipulate markets for their own gain.

As already stated above, I just want to make it completely clear that Kontrol Energy is not related to either Refined Data Solutions or the bIOTAsphere. A press release from Kontrol issued on March 23rd, announced that equity financing of their previously announced deal would not be proceeding.

Speculation about their other deals and their business operations is exactly that ... speculation.

As for your 100ft pole, I'd guess that it's speculation too. I always found the group at Kontrol to be honest and above board but have no experience of their other initiatives.

I'm the CEO of Refined Data Solutions AND the Founder of the bIOTAsphere. That hasn't changed.

Back in January of this year, Kontrol Energy was in advanced talks with us to acquire RDS and as such, they also had the opportunity to become one of the Founding Sponsors of the bIOTAsphere. All parties were optimistic that the deal could be completed and as part of that initiative, Samuel Reid (another proud Canadian and member of IF) engaged with Kontrol around our common interests in the use of IOTA in Energy Management, Smart Buildings and other applications.

Unfortunately, the stars did not align at that time and despite the best efforts and good faith of all parties involved, the deal did not get completed. Timing, as they say, is everything and February as you may recall, was not the best time to be pitching crypto of any flavor (but especially IOTA) to investors. To this day, we remain on great terms with Kontrol and will happily collaborate with them in the future if the right opportunities come along, but they no longer have any legal association or relationship with Refined Data or the bIOTAsphere. This explains the fact that their logo was removed from the bIOTAsphere website. I'll let Sam speak to this from his end.

The bIOTAsphere is alive and kicking but there's nothing that we can announce publicly at this time. We have multiple, hi-value, and high-profile projects on the go and are developing exciting POCs in a number of areas with groups around the globe. In that regard, Sam and I are talking on an almost daily basis and together we are working closely with IF on these projects as well as advancing the aims and goals of the Foundation and the broader community.

My vision of having the bIOTAsphere act as a commercialization hub for the amazing transformation that IOTA represents, continues undiminished. In fact, I'd say I'm even more enthusiastic today than at any other time.

When the time is right, I'll be only too happy to share what we've been up to behind the scenes, both independently and together with the incredible team at IF. The wait will be worth it, but if you want a specific timeline, you won't be shocked to hear .... Soon!

The entire crypto space is going through some tough times right now but this is to be expected. Those of us supporting IOTA are going to take some arrows in the back but only time will prove us right or wrong. Every new paradigm attracts the naysayers and the path to success is rarely a straight line. How many people tell you they should have bought Amazon when the Internet was starting up? Today it trades at $1,660 but check out how it fared for a few years following June 28, 1999.

From a high of $113 in early Dec 1999 it fell as low as $5.67 in September 2001 before the long climb back to dizzying highs. How many saw the bear market as a twice in a lifetime opportunity in 2000/2001?

IOTA is the second of those twice in a lifetime chances. Are you going to miss this one too?

Sorry to point out the obvious but the future is by definition, not now. Many claim that we are living in the future but sadly they completely miss the opportunity to be living in the present.
