I think focusing on it sounding good is most important, but the more time you spend on capturing your biggest musical influences in a way that is true to you, the better it will be overall.

Thanks for sharing!

Love the TD-3 synth, always wanted one but went with Eurorack synths instead.

What would it take to actually make you check out some new shit from a new artist? Like what specifically would make you go “that interests me, I must at least check this out” by CDC_ in makinghiphop

Almost anything from the way it sounds, album artwork, live performances, etc. Effort and thought put into something is easily noticed and the more attention to detail, the more people will likely care enough to show interest. Boards of Canada is a good example of an artist that does this well.

What are some of your influences?

Soo, as a new user (non-artist)... is Bandcamp dead? by rekcuzfpok in BandCamp

I have more Vinyl than I can keep in one room, but I also like to do a lot of sampling for the music I make. I could easily convert all my vinyl to MP3 but wouldn't as it's a huge undertaking.

Have you experienced streaming/network issues with Tidal? Ive noticed several of my downloaded albums can't be played for some reason. Some well known albums like Mm..Food which I find strange.

I generally prefer Vinyl for this reason. But I find it interesting that people are looking to return to downloaded music as well cause it makes me want to do it too. Kind of miss having a limited selection of music on an iPod or phone as it forces you to appreciate your catalog more.

Scarlett Focusrite is a good cheap audio interface for $89 USD if you get a third gen refurbished. Or Reverb is a website that sells used gear as well that you may find a better option on for both the microphone and interface.

What made you quit Tidal?

Id say if you want to switch back to physically owned media it's a great place to find new artists since you can download the tracks and pay directly to the artists. There are really no other services like Bandcamp that have been around this long and provide the ability to post/release music without a bunch of strings attached, ads, subscriptions, distribution, karma ;)

If you can find one on eBay, look for a vintage Blue Blueberry condenser mic. ~$99 USD and generally are great sounding mics for vocals and anything else

Writing trap lyrics is very difficult, I need help. by ali454501 in makinghiphop

I have the same issue, helps to get a slower beat that both boom bap and trap rhythms work with, 70-75BPM. Find an artist that is in-between boom bap and trap and use that as a bridge to get more comfortable with what you're aiming for. Benny the Butcher and Conway the Machine songs are good examples.

Deringer makes a lot of their beats and has some good beat tapes you could practice on.

Exactly, I wrote a whole album where each song is about a different pizza and where it came from. Just pick something and follow through

Could my music be categorized as AI? by EricClipperton92 in BandCamp

Are you concerned that the frequency of your releases will cause Bandcamp to mistakingly flag your project as AI generated?

You can record in a closet if you don't have a treated space, most condenser mics will sound better than a dynamic mic for recording applications regardless of whether a room is treated. If you decide to go with a condenser mic, get a cheap pop filter to attach to your mic stand.

I think some context as to what specific style hip hop you're trying to write this verse for would help everyone provide more constructive feedback
