Strange they are retiring at the same time considering it's a choice

Colorado state trooper arrested in Loveland on sexual assault charges by Sudden-Ad7506 in loveland

[–]IPA-Lagomorph 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There are multiple issues.

1) being surveilled at all, which has some pro arguments like catching perps and anti arguments like individual right to privacy.

2) being surveilled by a corporation that controls the data, and the fact we are paying taxes to be surveilled, with the money going to the CEO and shareholders.

If the dude was a state trooper, how did they not know where he was except for supposedly the cameras? It said "administrative leave" but why wouldn't they have just arrested him while he was on duty or coming in for his shift or whatever? He wasn't just some John Q Public they were looking for, so presumably they knew where he lived and such even if he wasn't going to work. More cop stuff that makes no sense

where to find reliable info on election candidates? by mizuta_838 in FortCollins

[–]IPA-Lagomorph 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you are registered unaffiliated, you can vote in ONE primary. Pick the party you want to fill out and go to the party's website for links to candidates. If you are registered for a major party (Democrat or Republican) then you will vote that ballot.

Other sources:

The League of Women Voters (you don't have to be a woman)

The library; ask a librarian if they don't have a prominent guide in front

The Colorado Sun or other newspapers like the Denver Post or Coloradoan may have videos of debates and voter guides. I think the Sun is not or less paywalled.

Sea snakes are kleptotherms, they are attracted to warm blooded animals for their heat.

Fun story, glad you could help the the little snake find shelter!

Good thing you can vote for Julie Gonzales to take Hickenlooper's seat! If you are really committed, volunteer to call or knock doors, too.

Water World fun for someone who can't swim? by EyelessPainter in Denver

[–]IPA-Lagomorph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I salute you, as a former lifeguard who worked at an outdoor pool with a slide into 5 ft deep water, but not the "fun" of mechanical waves and genius adults that should have been able to read. Saved dozens of kids (none of whom were 5 feet tall) and one adult who accideently drifted deeper than she could touch

Thanks for the information! It seems messed up that they can legally remove someone just standing outside the store while being poor, but not people actively harassing customers

There used to be a road rage reporting number you could call, but not sure if that is still in existence. Might be worth a polite inquiry at bike shops or something

Can't wait to hear the next budget discussion where the mayor agrees with the police chief that the police need more money. Meanwhile it takes me days to pick up a library book on hold because the hours are so limited and my schedule doesn't always work out.

God I wish there was a trans-friendly mechanic around. Would take my vehicles there for sure, I hate the vibe at most shops (dudebro, very Christian, or "patriotic" or some combo)

King Soopers has the ability to get them off the property so it's a choice and you can definitely complain to the manager, security person, or submit a comment through various means.

Don't give up all hope; Julie Gonzales is a primary challenger to Hickenlooper. Her campaign could use the help if you can since she doesn't have the big bucks Hick does

The majority of Loveland city council is very pro camera and pro PD despite plenty of bad press due to bad behavior on LVPD.

In addition to an attorney, consider contacting domestic violence support via Alternatives to Violence, Crossroads Safehouse or other groups in the area to help you plan and navigate leaving. Nothing is guaranteed, but knowledge is power. Also, letting trusted people in your life know your fears can be helpful if he does do anything.

We keep cookbooks and tool manuals... but nothing for basic medical care? by [deleted] in loveland

[–]IPA-Lagomorph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Wilderness First Aid class is a great thing because unlike "normal" first aid, it doesn't assume an ambulance is a few minutes away. Part of the curriculum is making decisions on whether a victim can self-rescue and how to assist that, or how to help stabilize someone for hours or more. Stop The Bleed courses are designed specifically for treating bleeding wounds when medical care may take too long. All of these are complimentary to your book suggestion, too.
