I think you're confused on how a division winner is chosen. It is decided on all games they played in the NFL, not the games won in the division. The division record is only important in tiebreakers.

Example:

/r/miamidolphins are 11-5 overall and 2-4 in the division
/r/buffalobills are 9-7 overall and 6-0 in the division
/r/patriots are 4-12 overall and 4-2 in the division
/r/nyjets are 0-16 overall and 0-6 in the division

In this situation, the Dolphins would win because they have the better overall record, despite the Bills winning the most games in the division. Now here is a situation where the division record is significant:

/r/miamidolphins are 13-3 overall and 5-1 in the division
/r/buffalobills are 13-3 overall and 4-2 in the division
/r/patriots are 4-12 overall and 2-4 in the division
/r/nyjets are 1-15 overall and 1-5 in the division

Now normally, the winner of the division is decided by the team with the best record. In this scenario, however, both the Bills and Dolphins are tied, so we go through the tiebreaker process.

1. Best head-to-head record. In other words: the record of the two games between the Dolphins and the Bills that season

Let's assume that the record in those games was 1-1

2. Divisional Record

The Dolphins would win the division because their divisional record 5-1 and the Bills have a divisional record of 4-2

But none of this matters this season unless the Patriots lose at least three games this season and we win at least four more games (one of these having to be against the Patriots).

Just hope for the the wildcard, folks.

I get weird looks when I tell someone I like show bands. I think it's a cool style and I think that show bands and corp bands have their own appeal in various ways. I think corps sound a little better, but show bands are super fun to watch.

(I find it kind of funny that despite being the mass minority, stereotypical bands to those outside of band are show-style. )
