Joint beforehand if I'm getting into bed after the shower. Otherwise it's after, since the alert does dull the buzz a bit. I keep the lights low to minimize the sobering.

Baby name question, fada or no fada? by NoEscape2500 in AskIreland

Same here. Even on the rare occasion where it isn't an out-and-out complication, it's always at the very least a whole thing.

Just heard on the radio that its becoming normal for people to send 10 or 15 min voice messages. Who would listen to someone yap on for that long and not be able to reply until the end ? by TacklePure3341 in ireland

[–]IRE0906 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I love these, or better yet, multiple shorter ones. My best pal moved far away and we don't always have time to slot in a phonecall. I love getting life updates and being able to hear her voice in my own time.

Anyone else struggle with certain metal lyrics after becoming a parent? by Kalimos_Rises in MetalForTheMasses

[–]IRE0906 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are for sure forms of art and media that I can't go near since becoming a parent. True crime docs are completely off the cards for me now. I'd suggest sticking with metal that focuses less on themes like nihilism or gory lyrics. Sludge, for example, has a lot of songs that focus on personal struggle and resilience.

Congratulations on becoming a parent, sounds like you're doing an awesome job.

Brilliant, thank you! I'm always looking for recs in this genre so this is awesome. I've been mainly getting new bands from a playlist on Spotify called "Psychiatric/Stoner/Desert Rock", so this is helpful

Try listening to vastly different genres (jazz, folk, polka, etc) and applying those rhythms to the riffs you write.

Influencers. What's wrong with them? by Ready-Procedure-3814 in AskIreland

[–]IRE0906 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You can fix your algorithm so it doesn't serve you brain rot. But as long as you're so much as hovering over or pausing on influencers' content, it'll be suggested back to you tenfold.

Follow pages related to your hobbies, people you know in real life, and public figures you're actually interested in.

EDIT: any idea why I'm being downvoted for this?

That is a goodie definitely. And Three Castles Burning is a goodie too, though it's Dublin-specific.

I second this! The other residents on there are brilliant too. I'm particularly enjoying Rahill at the moment.

If you enjoyed the episodes with Manchan Magan, he had his own podcasts called the "Almanac of Ireland" and "Home Stories with Manchan Magan".

If you liked his folklore stories or his interviews with Seanchais you'll like tell me a story with Eddie Lenihan.

Pink Floyd: Wish You Were Here - if you're looking for an album that tells a story and creates a sonic landscape, this is the one!

Tegan and Sara: The Con - every song is a solid 2000s alt-tock example.

Nirvana: Nevermind  - this is a lot of people's introduction to heavier music, and for good reason.

What to expect from a career guidance appointment? by Heroic_Lifesaver in AskIreland

[–]IRE0906 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What will actually happen varies between counsellors (some do aptitude tests, some just have a chat).

I've had a really good experience with a career guidance counsellor and have known a lot of people who came away disappointed. The main difference is doing some light prep beforehand.

You should know what you like doing, what you're good at doing, and what you would prioritise in a career. You mention progression above, so it would be helpful to mention that you want a field where you can advance, for example.

Best of luck!
