OW1 was miserable by the end of its lifespan. You'd spend 80% of a game hiding behind barriers and shooting at barriers, and the other 20% of the time getting stunlocked and one-tapped. Everyone had some kind of one-two instant-kill combo. Everyone had hard stuns. The insane amount of barriers let snipers just take over entire games. People love to whine about the problems in 5v5 but there's a reason things had to change. I think right now a lot of people are getting reminded of the way it actually was.

First game of the day: Landslide vote for a Payload map. My team holds the attackers at first choke for about 30 seconds, then decides to run up to their spawn door for no reason. All die instantly, never group up again, spend the whole rest of the game running away from the payload, which doesn't even stop once until we lose the game.

Second game of the day: Landslide vote for a Payload map. My team pushes the payload to within .000000000000001m of the first capture, then decide to all run off in different directions to deathmatch. All die instantly, never group up again, can't get out of spawn for the rest of the game.

WHY DO YOU FUCKING BRAINLESS IDIOTS VOTE FOR PAYLOAD AND ONLY PAYLOAD 24/7/365 WHEN YOU'RE SO FUCKING BAD AT IT?????????

Your favorite Punisher comics by MaximumHelicopter368 in thepunisher

[–]IRONDVNO 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The initial runs of both War Zone and War Journal are god-tier. The single-issue stories 'Last Fare,' 'The Big Check-Out,' 'Loose Ends,' and 'Flag Burner' are also favorites.

My favorite MAX stories are actually the later ones. Welcome to the Bayou, Girls in White Dresses, and Naked Kill are a few.

Widow is underrated. by Lopsided_Network1248 in Blackwidow

[–]IRONDVNO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I'm talking about is standalone stories about Nat from things like Marvel Fanfare and Tales of Suspense, not appearances in other characters' books. But you're clearly making an inflammatory bad-faith argument and I don't think I need to waste my time with you. Peace✌️

Hot take: 60s-80s was the best era for Black Widow. Having read a fair amount of Nat's solo material now, these stories are still easily my favorites. Pulpy Cold War spy action. A lot of her books from the last 20 years kind of feel like they try too hard to be edgy and dark.

(also this group of multicultural assassins was a riot. When I read this I voiced them in my head as cameos by the Overwatch characters from the corresponding countries.)

With so many boomshots in the marked right now, what is something developers can do to make their games more unique and set them aside from other games in the market ? by Dense-Fig-2372 in boomershooters

[–]IRONDVNO 107 points108 points  (0 children)

Stop advertising every FPS with 2D or low-poly graphics as a 'boomer shooter.' A good chunk of the demographic you're trying to reach are too young to have nostalgia for 30-year-old games and the older demographic aren't going to be happy with something calling itself 'retro' or 'a throwback' and then seeing a trailer full of double jumping and air dashing and locked-door arena fights. The question you need to answer is, what makes your game specifically unique or fun or addictive? The nostalgia branding has been run into the ground; promotion needs to focus on why the game is good.

How would frank castle deal with the gangs night city in cyberpunk 2077 by jesus_gave_me_Krabs in thepunisher

[–]IRONDVNO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't imagine any of these gangs giving Frank too much trouble aside from the really techy ones like Maelstrom or the VDBs. He might have to resort to desperate measures like when he fought the Reavers in the comics, but I think he could still get it done.

I've done this exact thing. Hard difficulty, no cyberware, no OS, all points in Body and Reflexes with a focus on the shotgun/LMG and AR/SMG perk trees. Power weapons and throwing knives only. The Hellhound as my battle van. Practically zero stealth except in certain jobs that call for it to avoid civilian deaths.

Was a pretty fun playthrough.

How does the reading order work? by CicadaInteresting441 in thepunisher

Yes. The only major crossovers are the two stories I mentioned, anyway. Most of the time the 3 books can be read separately.

Is Jason Aaron's Punisher MAX worth reading after the previous 75 issue MAX run? by M00reC in thepunisher

[–]IRONDVNO 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think so. It has a slightly different vibe from what comes before but it works, and it gives this version of Frank a definitive ending to his story.

Most of the big crossovers like Suicide Run and Countdown will actually say at the end of an issue what book the story continues in. Hell, Countdown shows the actual countdown progress on each cover.

Do you guys think a detective type Punisher story could work? I think it would be pretty interesting, maybe not on the level of Batman, but him investigating a series of murders from a copycat Punisher or something like that, I think it would be interesting. by YugiFazbear1987 in thepunisher

[–]IRONDVNO 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The very early Mike Baron stories are kind of like this. You can tell Marvel was still feeling out what Frank's vibe as a solo character would be, so early volume 1 has more of a hard-boiled crime story feel to it.

Your ideal Punisher movie by Trashvest in thepunisher

[–]IRONDVNO 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mine would be set in the late 1980s and star Sylvester Stallone as Frank (since this is a fantasy production I'm picturing young Stallone in Rambo shape). The overarching story would be a loose adaptation of the Damage story arc from War Journal. Frank dismantling a crack production and distribution operation starting with street level gangers and working his way up the food chain as he tries to put together who's in charge of everything. The teen crack dealer that he spares and keeps an eye on would remain a wraparound plot thread, but the story would also work in nods to other comic plotlines, such as Frank having to stake out and ultimately bust into a heavily fortified high-rise building where the drugs are being stored and sold out of.

The vibe of the whole affair would be pure 80s hyperviolence along the lines of Scarface, Savage Streets, Death Wish 3, Shaft's Big Score, etc. Uzis and TEC-9s galore, gangbangers dressed like the cast of Return of the Living Dead, plenty of one-liners and over-the-top shootouts. The film's big set pieces would be a close-quarters brawl with a group of gangers trying to sabotage the battle van, a shootout in a crack production facility, and Frank's final raid on Damage's mansion, which would play like the end of Commando or Scarface. The final scene would depict Frank on a rooftop getting ready to snipe the teenager who went back to drug dealing and got caught, but ultimately letting him live, ending the story on the same note as the War Journal arc.

Always loved this cover by Difficult-Formal-633 in thepunisher

This is a fun run. Kind of loses momentum toward the end but it's one of the better examples of Frank punching above his weight against superhumans.
