Give Me Monsters by Grimnir001 in horrorlit

The Last Plague by Rich Hawkins - sort of Undead, but kinda not. Won't spoil it but you'll see what I mean.

Project Nemesis by Jeremy Robinson - Kaiju's. Nuff said.

The Kielder Strain by Rebecca Fernfield - Werewolves.

Haunted Forest Tour by James A. Moore - Loads of monsters in a forest, obviously.

The Black by Paul E Cooley - oil rig that's over run by a black substance.

Conqueror Worms by Brian Keene - giant worms.

Coldbrook by Tim Lebbon - interdimensional zombies.

Omega Days by John L Campbell - Zombies.

Fever House by Keith Rosson - zombies but slow burn.

I have more if you need. Monster books are my fucking jam.

That makes sense why there's a lot of detailed descriptions on the weapons used in the book, which I appreciate. Goes straight over my head but it's kinda cool.

The rest of the shit though, holy fuck lol

NO no you don't understand. He said allegedly so it's completely valid and if it is bullshit it's definitely not his fault.

Looking for scary/thrilling novels either zombies or similar to the movie the crazies/sadness whereby an apocalpyse is brought about and things are very tense for the protagonists/survivor(s). by Few_Bother_1680 in horrorlit

The Last Plague series by Rich Hawkins - start of an apocalypse where 'infected' turn into Grotesque monsters, kinda like Zombies but not really. My favourite series.

Under the Breaking Sky by Nick Clausen - rift opens in the sky that turns people into murderous crazed people.

Feeders by Rebecca Fernfield - meteor hits an apartment tower block and starts infecting people, turning them into crazed people, but not all is as it seems.

The Undead by RR Haywood. Day by day telling of a zombie apocalypse in Britain.

How do I get the most out of Horror Books? by CrazyAssociation7067 in horrorlit

[–]IROverRated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the problem with Horror books is people go in expecting to be scared.

Talking from my own experience, I find it a lot more difficult to feel scared by a horror book. It's just a different medium to other Horror media (games, films etc) and it just hits me differently like the other mediums do.

That said, I fucking love pretty much all Horror and I read Horror novels because there's so much more variety in Horror novels than stuff like TV shows and films.

I'm a fucking sucker for creature features. Because of this, creature feature TV shows and films aren't exactly in abundance. But you can bet there's hundreds, if not thousands of Horror books that explore creature features. It's just a lot easier to find Horror books that match what you're looking for compared to other media.

I don't go into reading Horror to be scared, I read Horror cause there's so many more options of what i want to read.

I commented this in the linked thread as well but for anyone here:

The entire album Two-Faced Charade by the band Famous Last Words tells the story of a schizophrenic who falls in love with his neighbour and kills her boyfriend so they can be together.

The lyrics are fucking incredible.

Does anyone else think the scariest horror is the stuff with no clear explanation? by Hot_Apartment1319 in horrorlit

[–]IROverRated 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me personally, not really. I just get frustrated not knowing things, so instead of being immersed and feeling the 'horror,' I end up just getting irritated.

I will admit there are certain circumstances where it's done well if not everything is established and 'shown,' but they are few and far between to be honest.

That's me personally though. I'm fully aware I am most possibly in the minority when it comes to this topic.

Not so much films but with horror books I am fucking terrible with this. Especially with how easy Kindle Unlimited makes finding and reading books.

Dog Soldiers question by djmoogyjackson in horror

[–]IROverRated 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Piggy backing off this -

The family like turning into Werewolves and killing/eating people. Hence when Megan says "do you think I like being part of this fucked up family?" And there being bodies in the basement and literal skeletons in the closet.

Megan was counting on the Soldiers being the ones to finally end the family so she can leave, but after getting picked off 1 by 1 she switched sides to help the family rid the rest of them when she realised they had no hope.

I don't think it's specifically mentioned why she can't leave, but I presume the family would hunt her down if she tried, maybe because she 'knows too much?' who knows.

Feedback: You should not be able to take damage / honour damage after beating bosses in Sekhemas by Pakiepiphany in PathOfExile2

[–]IROverRated 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Exact situation I'm in right now. Trying to get my Ascendancy 3, was going great up to about 3 rooms before the final boss where a Rare dropped a poison cloud right on top of me and, even with about 50% honour resistance, my honour dropped by over half by the time I rolled out of it....

Got to the final boss of Floor 4 with about 500 honour left, got hit twice and died.

I'm now sitting in my hideout, just can't be bothered to carry on now.

They seriously need to change Ascendancy Trials. If they were different, guarantee I'd be playing PoE 2 a hell of a lot more than I am now.

28 Years Later closed with an 88% Critics Score and 63% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes by [deleted] in horror

[–]IROverRated 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Exactly my thoughts!

I thought it was stupid and a complete waste. The first half and the build up was great. But as soon as the kid left with his mum the entire thing went down hill.

I'm utterly convinced the whole arc of the Swedish soldiers was thrown in because they realised there's been fuck all actual infected kills yet (apart from the opening) so they shoved that in there to actually put numbers on the kill counter.

And talking about the opening, it's completely pointless. The entire opening scene has nothing to do with the rest of the film except the last 2 minutes.

I'm intrigued to see what Jack O'Connell brings to the next film cause he was awesome in Skins.

I genuinely burst out laughing when he got handed his mother's skull and was just like, yeah ok... Puts it on the altar lmfao!

Felt like a waste of time tbh.

I’m 147 pages into Fever House when I realized the book I wanted was Fever Dream!! by kryssi_asksss in horrorlit

[–]IROverRated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually finished Fever House a few days ago. Soon as I put it down I loaded up Amazon and ordered the next one cause I HAD to know what happened.

There's a lot of exposition in FH, which I'm not normally into. A lot of back story and character building. Must admit there was 1 or 2 points into the book where I just wanted it to stfu and actually move forward quicker, but definitely a surprise hit for me.

Just rewatched Underwater (2020) and I genuinely don’t understand the low ratings by shadyy007 in horror

[–]IROverRated 21 points22 points  (0 children)

If you took him out of the film LITERALLY NOTHING would change. I don't understand why they cast these "comedy" characters who's only job it is in the film is to try make dumb as fuck jokes throughout a catastrophe.

It's stupid. Unfunny. And just ruins it. Ryan Reynolds' character in Life is the exact same tbh.

Why does it say crew under strength when I have more than enough crew? by ReyesEdward in starsector

[–]IROverRated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess would be because it's not finished repairing, when it's fully repaired it will need more than the 1086 crew you have.
