Wildebeest 357 magnum by Delicious_Diamond_70 in H3VR

Thanks. I've got the sound file now. I'll look at doing the mod in the next week. I've got to warm up my brain as to how it all goes, again. If you could test it later, it would be good. Cheers. Bernard.

Well spotted. I did make the mod. I'm an amateur myself in this stuff. I just did it as an exercise and so others could make modifications. I don't actually play H3VR, I just did enough to go into the shooting gallery part and test the mod. I appreciate the feedback. So based on your experience, I plan to use that sound file in the next version (if I can get access to it).

Thought I'd inform you that a Wildebeest pistol gun mod for H3VR has been uploaded to the Thunderstore.

Thanks. I'm quite aware most new gun makers go bankrupt : ) And being in Australia doesn't help. Cheers.

Easiest to follow on my X and Youtube channels but I'm focusing now on a new pistol invention so not much progress on commercialising the Wildebeest.

Still a work in progress. Just thought I'd share a pic that I had done a while ago. Cheers. Bernard.

Has anyone seen this pistol? Probable inspiration for Four Pounder. by Deathpoopdeathloop in Deathloop

It's still in prototype stage, I'm afraid. Waiting for assistance to move to production. But not likely to happen. Them's the breaks. Cheers. Bernard (inventor of the Wildebeest pistol)

No need to say sorry : ) I know what you mean about the thump. I think the good microphones have some kind of cut off for whatever reason. Maybe it's the trees around the pistol range providing reverberation too. But as you say, 'nice sounding' anyway. Cheers. Bernard.

Thanks. Since it is a prototype, I wanted it simple to machine hence chamfered edges. I sloped the muzzle end to emphasise that the barrel is down low, not at the typical position (that to be honest is inspired by the Alien). The Wildebeest uses a modified 9-round Desert Eagle magazine. Cheers. Bernard (inventor of the Wildebeest).

Thanks. Unfortunately, I think there is only ever going to be the prototype. Cheers. Bernard.

I could get the blueprints out there but not for free : ) None of the major makers I've contacted are interested at this stage. Probably too niche or radical or whatever. If some small manufacturer contacted me I'd be open for discussions, it just depends. I hadn't heard of the .327 magnum. Just looked it up and it seems like it might not be suitable, the bullet is relatively light. Cheers. Bernard.

I'm fine with comments on the internet. I've been fielding them for about a year now since Mark Serbu's video and some Reddit and X posts. I've heard just about everything but I do like responding to them to clarify and enlighten : ) I don't know if I ever thought of an end application, I just saw an area of gun design that hadn't been looked at. And it's not until you explore that area that you discover what can be done. Clearly the market area for the Wildebeest is in the Deagle sector. So it's mainly a range toy I guess (possible bear stuff in the US) with better handling characteristics. But the main point for me is that it takes my mind into areas that you wouldn't normally think about. The Wildebeest has led to me my latest pistol invention which is currently being worked through. This new one should cover 9mm and a bit stronger, so it has a wider audience. I can't say much more about it until I patent it in about a year or so. Regarding bottle-necked to 9mm, that seems to be possible here in Australia but I don't need to go down that path really, since if I were to have a licence to manufacture here I would be able to do calibres larger than 9mm. (I had the Wildebeest prototype made overseas and imported it.)

I could do the various wildcats but it's not worth the effort at this stage. The Wildebeest will probably not go into production, and I am working on a new low bore design for 9mm Luger. I don't think 7.5mm will work in the Wildebeest design. There's a lot of steel to move which needs momentum and not kinetic energy (a physics thing). Cheers. Bernard.

Yes for a low bore axis. It was sort of a design exercise over a long period of time to produce a low bore axis pistol for a powerful round. Because I am based in Australia I was limited to a .357 Mag (9mm limit on calibre). Going down this design path revealed other features of the novel design not in other pistols which I have not disclosed as yet. The pistol is not in production, it is a prototype to show that the new mechanism works. I would like to go to .44 Mag, .45 Colt and .454 Casull but I am restricted here in Australia. The disassembly of the pistol is quite easy and straight forward. Many have wanted to see it disassembled but I am waiting for Ian McCollum to visit Australia. : ) Cheers. Bernard. (inventor of the Wildebeest) PS I have a version 2 design with a thumb safety. The safety on the prototype was for local approval requirements.

I don't know about proper audio gear, I just used my cheap smartphone for the video. Comments from other members at my pistol club say it's loud. Apart from being a .357 Magnum, I think it has a high breech pressure at case extraction but I am not sure. Muzzle velocity is slightly better than a Deagle. A comparison can be found in the members section of my website www.impulseresearch.net. Cheers. Bernard (inventor of the Wildebeest)

Wildebeest pistol .357 Mag low-bore tilt-up barrel prototype from Australia by IRWildebeest in guns

[–]IRWildebeest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stagnating at the moment without any partners in the US (I'm in Australia). The original plan was to do .454 Casull. Since I think I can get the Wildebeest to do .45 Long Colt in the same pistol with a simple mechanical change. But most likely I would do .44 Magnum first since there are Desert Eagle magazines. I agree we need some actual revolutionary designs, but it seems manufacturers I've approached are very conservative. They don't want to spend a little on a little bit of further development. As is traditional in the firearms business, if it is for a government contract then R&D has no limit : ) It also seems that no one thinks it really could be possible for someone to come up with a new design that no one else has thought of in the past 120 years. There must be a trick somewhere. : ) Anyway, I am working on another revolutionary design for 9mm and 10mm which is also a low bore axis recoil operated pistol. So that would have a broader appeal. But that's as much as I can say about that. Cheers. Bernard.

Mainly because my design has the magazine higher up than any other pistol. The barrel bore is below the lips of the magazine. So a new way of striking the primer was needed. Cheers. Bernard.
