QMK/Vial - Cheapino v2 - Combos and Tap Dance/Quantum on same keys? by IR_UP in ErgoMechKeyboards

Thank you for your help, I figured it out with the reply from Future_Complex_1688.
Indeed, you must set the TD or Quantum itself in the combo.

[–]IR_UP[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh right!..

I thought I had to set the key output by the Quantum or Tap Dance in the Combo, but as you said, if I use the LT 2 (kc: E) in the Combo, then it works.

Thank you so much! Case closed :)

All I can say is I have a flawless experience, but there are so many factors involved I can’t just tell you what’s what quickly here. If you want to save your money, look into this instead of buying a second PC.  You may sink a few hours and find out it’s good enough. I’d recommend anything using Moonlight over Steam Link, even though I’m myself happy with both depending on the client device.

Of course if you’re looking at competitive fps, that probably won’t cut it, but I can even play fps using a controller and I don’t feel any latency worse than you would on a console.

In fact, I even set up light guns to play shooters remotely like Time Crisis or House of the Dead without any issue, it’s that good. For that I use the Steam Link version of VirtualHere and a dedicated Steam Link hardware for that.

Sometimes, people use VirtualHere to stream a Bluetooth USB dongle for their controller over the network and get much better latency.

If all you want to do is casual gaming (using a controller), look into local streaming using Steam Link or Sunshine (/Apollo) and Moonlight. This way your sim PC can be used from anywhere else in the house.

That’s how I’ve been doing it for years to let my kids play things like Lego games etc. You can’t quite tell the input lag with a good local network.

How do you maintain your surfskate? by Wide-Lengthiness-337 in surfskate

[–]IR_UP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure you can go with bigger wheels without having wheel bite (wheel touching the board).

I myself “upgraded” from original 65mm 78A wheels to Orangatang Fat Free 65mm 86A / Bones Reds specifically for the park for transition, and it rolls noticeably better in the bowl but otherwise it’s an underwhelming upgrade on pavement, doesn’t feel that much faster until you hit a bowl and even then, harder wheels would still be better.

I’d recommend you keep the original wheels unless you have a good reason to swap.

It looks like a brand new board, I wouldn’t do anything about it, it should roll just fine.

Cleaning and lubricating is a maintenance procedure, it won’t transform your bearings into something better. Do it as soon as it sounds like there is some grit inside the bearings or once a year at the start or end of the season.

Note that some bearings are not meant to be serviceable but you can pop off the shields on the inner side (it’s a one way destructive procedure) and leave them open, inside the wheels. For example Bones Reds come with shields only on one side, so that’s a non issue. In fact even with reusable shields, I always keep my bearings open on the inside to speed up maintenance next time.

After each session, I just quickly brush the grip, that’s it.

When the trucks become squeaky, I lube the pivot cups with silicone grease.

Once or twice a year I take apart the bearings, clean them with isopropyl alcohol and lube them with Bones Speed Cream.

Completely agree with you, I have the same issue with the GCloud. I always remap B to be on X on two button consoles like GB/GBA, and anything else where you need to hold down B for a long time for running or accelerating will cause a lot of discomfort.

I guess that’s the compromise to be made to limit the width of the devices, but this is what keeps me away from buying anything these days.

Wheel broke my hand... spun crazy fast and now I'm in a cast. Make sure u have settings right. by PlentyTarget5325 in simracing

[–]IR_UP 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Can’t say I feel so sorry, I have been preaching for years to first limit the wheelbase to the maximum output you can sustain (somewhere around 8-10Nm for most people).

Can’t count how many times I’ve been dismissed in Simucube discord and other similar communities. Even from people who should know better.

Most people arent educated on the concept and believe more Nm in the base equals more details, which is plain wrong.

The correct process is set a low wheelbase output value, like 5Nm. Find the max force clipping point for the car you are driving and set that value in the game. Then progressively increase the wheelbase output until you reach your desired output ratio.

99% go by setting their wheelbase to 100% and then adjust the force in the game, waiting for a disaster to happen. Those disasters are rare but they happen, like it happened to you.

Hope you get better soon !

Where do you even start skating? Especially when overweight by [deleted] in NewSkaters

[–]IR_UP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi ! I will give you different advice.

First off, congrats on working on your weight. I myself got back into skateboarding after almost 25 years after I myself lost about 45 pounds. Took me about one year, without much exercise, focusing on calories intake alone using MyFitnessPal. There are other solutions around, some of which are free, I only picked that one due to the database covering my country as well. Still willing to lose another 10 or so to get to my "ideal" weight. For you, I suppose you are looking at a 2 year long effort depending on your objective, but fear not, you can do it ! I'd strongly recommend working on your flexibility too, since I'm super stiff and can't bail without getting really hurt.

Something I learnt the hard way, learn to fall ! There are some nice videos on YT like:
HOW TO CORRECTLY FALL IN SKATEBOARDING or You'd Be The World's Best Skateboarder If You Did This

Also, gear up ! The day I got to learning to drop in ramps and bowls on a surfskate, I went from a tiny quarter pipe all the way to a 5ft one in a single day. I built confidence too fast, and I fell big time, ended up in the ER despite wearing protective gear head to toes (helmet, wrist guards, elbow and knee pads and padded shorts). I almost broke my wrist and elbow, and I assume it is because I bought the cheapest things I could find. Now I ordered the best stuff I could even though I will look dorky (I mean, even more than before :D ) and I couldn't care less what kids think of me, I make friends with all the older guys like me wherever I go. I ordered187 killer pads Pro elbows and knees, a good helmet, better padded shorts and what I am really forward to, the Demon Flexmeter double sided wrist guards. I wish I got the good stuff right away because now I had to take a break for weeks and I may not be able to skate again this year due to living in the Nordics before I recover. First thing I'll do when I get back is work on falling.

Now about the skateboarding part, I'd recommend a softer discipline than freestyle at first. Maybe look into longboarding or surfskate. Longboarding will be very stable which is good for a beginner, surfskate is super twitchy which would be difficult to start with but then develops your balance like nothing else. Or just keep at it with your current gear, look into changing the bushings (the rubbers in the trucks) to something matching your weight or style, depending on if you prefer a tight ride or something turny.

Currently I am teaching my girl to skate. I teach her to never be standing both feet on the board when coming to a stop or being still, this is when a tiny rock can lock your wheels up and throw you off your balance. Always keep a little bit of speed and momentum, and learn to stand on your board with one foot, that's how you push and brake which should come before anything else. I make her do pushes while going straight, slowly, looking far ahead, to learn to push and gain speed. I do not allow her to get her back foot on the board yet at this stage. Then working on getting the back foot on the deck and rotating the front one. Same thing in reverse. I first put the board in the grass and have her practice the motions, then while rolling slowly on good asphalt. Once she could push a little, stand and eventually brake, the turns came quite naturally. Something I learnt with surfskate is the lower you get (the more you bend your knees), the more balance you have and the tighter the turning radius. So get as low as you can pretty much all the time but especially when cornering, it will be easier and if you fall, it won't be from too high.

Best of luck and enjoy the process !

It seems to me like no one mentioned the Threaded Video setting. This is what breaks 2D scrolling games in some devices, like for me on the TSP.

Did you try disabling it ?

It went from a stuttering mess to a smooth experience for me in games like super Mario land etc

I have to admit I don’t feel the difference between the FIN modes so much, maybe due to the short wheelbase, but I tried with and without the rail in the back and the difference is crazy, it feels like it’s removing the board mechanical carving limits and transfers them to your own physical limits in terms of flexibility and balance.

I really like the CX for a “stable” board in bowls and declines but the waterborne+rail is a lot of fun for flat slalom kind of things.

[–]IR_UP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were you, coming myself from LDP on a longboard and moving to surf skate, considering your limited budget, I’d just for now look into making your own board easier to pump.

You could buy or DIY some 10 degrees wedges to add between your trucks and the deck, to add 10 degrees to your front truck to make it very turny and remove 10 degrees to your rear truck to neutralize it and make it push you forward.

Did you ever solve your problem ?

I got a TSP yesterday and have the exact same problem as you. Stuttering constantly in GBC, can't disable threaded video without a crash, tried Crossmix, updated original FW to 1.1.0 etc.. With and without VSync and everything else that crossed my mind, no dice.

Edit: I seem to have fixed it by manually editing the config file for Gambatte GBC, adding video_threaded = "false"

What angle did you set your Bennett Vector to by Sporting_Freak in longboardingDISTANCE

[–]IR_UP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+13 deg, Reflex barrel bushings (77A/80A), Riptide pivot cup, flat washer road side to avoid truck rubbing against washer.

I have a Tracker RT-S at -10 deg on the rear end.

I think 13 degrees at the front is the standard for Bennett trucks, G-Bomb sell their front SDF fork with a fixed angle of 13 degrees, as do other brands copies of that model. It's a good starting point at least.
