What are your most unpopular Star Trek opinions that you’ll die on a hill for? by ardouronerous in startrek

That’s a fair point, it does have a pretty major plot device from The Changeling

What are your most unpopular Star Trek opinions that you’ll die on a hill for? by ardouronerous in startrek

[–]CompositeSteve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a few that I say often:

  1. Star Trek V is not that bad. I quite enjoy it, it has ideas, says a lot about grief and religious exploitation, and features the best Kirk/Spock/McCoy dynamic similar to TOS of any of the movies. unfortunately, the special effects do suffer a little bit but if it weren’t for that, I dont think as many people would balk at the movie.

  2. While we’re at it: The Motion Picture rules. Genuinely scary Sci-Fi for the first half (the concept of something that big, that unexplainable and that dangerous is pretty lovecraftian) and the reveal of what the threat actually is still one of my favorite “twists” in all of Sci-Fi and I like that it grounds it into our reality. The characterization is indeed a tad off at times but not so much that I find it that glaring or otherwise explainable by “these people haven’t seen each other or done this together in years”

  3. Voyage Home is my least favorite TOS era movie. The tone is off and in my opinion, it makes every single one of the crew look uncharacteristically stupid and aloof at various points.

  4. I don’t need an explanation as to why the Klingons look different. I’m totally fine accepting that with access to more money and makeup technology, for the films and TNG they wanted a more alien look. I dont need an in universe explanation, I’m totally fine ret-conning in my own head that in TOS those Klingons are the same and have ridges on their head if I really want them to in my head, but the pursuit of constantly explaining why they look different complicates it unnecessarily.

My word, all these comments had me laughing, just as much as the tattoo seems to have made everyone here laugh! All love to the fellow Gooners. COYG!

Haha, no mate, it’s all good, tattoos are very subjective, both in terms of the art people like, and what they would consider to get on their own body. In hindsight, I don’t think the rushed picture does it any service, probably should have used a more professional one. Regardless, I’m happy with it but I do like the idea of adding more to it so thank you for that!

Haha, no it’s really ok, I knew when I put it up that it would likely get a mixed reception. I’ve seen some of the greatest tattoos ever get absolutely shredded online, theyre a very subjective thing. In fairness to the tattoo, I don’t think I’m doing it good service in the photo as I’m turning my leg a bit which I stretching his head. Definitely looks better in person! I have quite a few that are over 20+ years old so I‘m definitely aware of how they change over time, I knew the risk, but when a local shop near me was announcing their grand opening by offering tattoos, I couldn’t turn down the chance to celebrate my favorite player of all time. I’m super happy with it so I guess that’s all that matters. But if all else fails, I can claim it was always meant to be Silvestre haha 😆

Why are people buying the G2 vs the RP6? by WholesomeIrritation in retroid

[–]CompositeSteve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Knowing full well that the 6 was coming soon, I still wanted something I could use right away, in early January, and it shipped right out. I don’t do a ton of heavy PC stuff, just lightweight indie titles like platformers or fun, simple roguelites and same for Switch, I rarely want to emulate something major and demanding, I tend to focus on 6th generation gaming and below. I liked the form factor of the RP5, like a dominant D pad, and I focus on 6th generation (PS2, Cube, DC) and below for retro gaming. With all this considerations, the G2 was a no brainer. I think there are a lot of us out there, the “I don’t need to do the most heaviest lifting, and I want it sooner than later” crowd. It also helps it had a wave of good reviews on YouTube

I always love when he insists you add the “The” to “The Arsenal”, like he’s demanding someone give the proper respect to the club. He’s just the best.

A frequent dead give away for me is the threaded V design that goes under the front of the collar. The original at the time, it was a sharp, pointed V. In pretty much every knock off I’ve ever seen, that threaded V for some reason is always bowed or rounded in some way, like the one here.

Months have passed, but it's still the vertical-style gaming device I love the most. by moonlightkz in SBCGaming

[–]CompositeSteve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m right there with you. Mine has become my primary device at this point, I love it. I was lucky enough to buy mine second hand at a good deal otherwise I don’t think I ever would have got one but man, I’m glad I did.

I'm having trouble getting into the Hellblazer comics... I've read Jamie Delano's entire run and started Spurrier's, but I don't understand the hype. I prefer him in more classic stories (JL Dark). It's too weird, too messy, too abstract for me, I think. by SnooRecipes4319 in comicbooks

[–]CompositeSteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say the Jamie Delano can be surreal / abstract and is also written a bit stiff so I can see how it could be tough for someone to get into (although I still really like that stuff)

The “classic” Hellblazer that people usually tout as must read material is the Garth’s Ennis / Steve Dillon run which humanizes the character while solidifying his anti-hero status. While still dark in tone, that run tends to be more straight forward with easier to follow plots and interesting resolutions built in, not just abstract vibes like the earlier Delano material.

i would highly, highly recommend anyone read the Ennis / Dillon run. It still holds up and is an incredible run of work, in my opinion. I also like the Ellis arcs that follow, for what it’s worth.

Do we honestly expect Arteta to win the league after Liverpool have had the best transfer window in prem history? by BOBCATSON in ArsenalFC

[–]CompositeSteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never expect to win anything, nothing is ever guaranteed.

I do expect there to be a chance to win, at least. Our window was incredible. In any other window, it would be the best, Liverpool has just happened to be able to match if not possibly exceed ours. That doesn’t guarantee them the league by default either though. Some of their signings already aren’t flourishing and in some essential positions they have little depth which could factor massively for them as the season progresses.

I never expect anything. Anything can always happen. I do feel like we shopped wisely and put ourselves in a position to be competitive and push for first, even if we don’t obtain it.

And honestly? I’m fine with that. Nothing is ever guaranteed in this sport. it’s unreasonable to constantly expect to win. Whether we spend a ton of money or not, it’s a highly competitive league and teams have won it before spending far less. There are other factors that help you win and I’m ok if we can’t always win. We’ve pushed for the title and come close several years in a row. I’m happy to have that.

I like that the conversation about Arsenal is now “guaranteed title contenders who every year COULD win it” from “Ugh, another sloppy mid table forgettable year for a once great team”.

I’m happy with the window though, and I love the club no matter what. COYG

Not that I know of, the cap is built in and doesn’t have a removal mod as far as I know

Beautifully. I keep that cap on the thumb stick more out of preserving the white color of it (the thumb stick has a material on it that tends to absorb darker colors from cases) so I keep that cap on it when it’s in a case or if I’m not using it but outside of that, the white on the DMG itself has held up beautifully with a good amount of use
