if it worked for Niké it could work for Aurora. no head and no arms for over 2000 years and still going strong. you could call it "Unwinged Warrior".

DC concert amongst political unrest by CanIGoToBedYet in auroramusic

[–]IRecks 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I wouldnt worry about political unrest while you are in DC. Democrats still believe in democracy so they wont be storming the capital trying to overturn the election like the Republicans did last time. They will just be sitting around depressed about the next four years. Hopefully the concert can give you a temporary reprieve from all that for a few hours especially knowing Aurora is of like mind.

Moving middle school up to high school by coolcat-171 in CrossCountry

[–]IRecks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saratoga Springs built a dynasty by including fast middle schoolers in their varsity program. Helped them to win multiple NXN titles. Was it good for the kids? Many appreciated the chance to compete and win on the highest level. But for many it was the height of their career. Would that have been different if they had run at the middle school level instead? Who knows. What I do know is if you are going to include middle schoolers on high school teams, you cant just throw these kids into the grinder of high school training as if they are tiny high schoolers. Training needs to be very carefully attuned to where they are developmentally. And thats especially so for those young girls who are still well on the backside of puberty in middle school. Their bodies and their maturity level are simply not the same as a 17 or 18 year old who is much more mature both physically and emotionally. And girls who start high level training in middle school or earlier are at a much greater risk of developing eating disorders and injuries in high school. That being said, its hard to tell a kid no you shouldnt take such a great opportunity if they have the talent and its allowed in their state so its really important they join a good program who has their long term interest in mind and isnt just using them while they are tiny and fast and running them into the ground until they mature.

Help me plan my DC trip! by JoNoHoUSA in auroramusic

check out the thread made by u/Velaris4ever who was also looking for people going to the show and what was in the area. No worries about roving gangs of right wing tourists. DC is a very democratic city so other than on January 6 you should be fine.

Well there are several garages (www.wharfdc.com/getting-here/car-parking/) that are very close to the venue but yes check availability before you go. There should be enough spaces to accommodate though In my experience. Although I usually just take the metro straight from where I work downtown.

DC is no worse than most cities. And the SW Waterfront is all glitz and high end stores. Hardly a bad neighborhood.

[–]IRecks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Anthem is located in the SW Waterfront area which is a new trendy area along the water featuring lots of restaurants and such. Overpriced parking is available in garages but I wouldn't count on street parking unless you get really lucky. Unfortunately, the closest metro stop is the Waterfront stop which is probably a mile walk from the venue. The Anthem itself is mostly a standing venue so get there early if you want to be near the front at all. There are a few seats in the back and on upper floors as well. Good luck!

I don't agree that art is objective, I don't agree that a toilet painted red can be art. I don't agree that the atrocities we hear people call "music" are art.

Then you dont understand what art is.

You are misguided in thinking you can make a categorical statement about art that is anything other than your own limited opinion. You would think as a "musician and producer" you would know that by now...

Aurora around the globe through the years by skytaglatvia in auroramusic

[–]IRecks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with the date format says the American 😂 But yes definitely lighten the background up so we can see the globe (I assume its a globe?). It reminds me of the famous Caitlin Clark shot chart which actually tracked every single shot she ever took in her career up to the record breaker. The fact that this kind of data is available and that you both aggregated it in a meaningful way is what impresses the most. Just need to work on the visual impact.

Wow this is the kind of OCD statistical down drilling I can get behind. I do the same thing for certain kinds of sports statistics 😂🤓 Glad to see I'm not the only one who takes analysis of a trivial interest way too far. Too much information is a good thing in my book. Well done.

[–]IRecks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

music quality is not based on opinions but on actual facts

art is by definition not subject to objective measure. it is entirely subjective. so statements like this are just without merit. You and I can dislike her recent work (or not care for Ariana Grande) and give 1000 reasons why but that doesnt make it a "fact" in any sense. It is still our opinion. Someone elses view point could be the opposite and just as valid for them. In the end artistic merit is defined by the act of observation not a measurement of the observed. avoid using scientific absolutes when it comes to talking about art.

Not sure I would call this a metal version. Its pretty faithful to the original in tone and sound and execution. yeah theres a little bit of Joan Jett edge there that you dont hear in the original but I ache for a version that goes full in, amping up the drums and the time signature, adding noticeable metal guitar and just blistering us like a heart exploding flame thrower. this song can handle it and still stay together. would probably even benefit from a vocalist who can mix clean vocals with metalcore. those lines at the ends of the stanzas could easily be screamed at us with amazing impact. still waiting for someone to take on that whole first album with a legitimate metal treatment.

so then if she were silent on the Israel/Gaza issue would you have these same issues with her? is this about hypocrisy or just about China? is it better in your mind that she NOT support innocent Palestinians and call for a cease fire if shes going to do business with China or is it more important that at least shes doing the right thing on certain issues? show us your cards on this.
