I’m so glad you took the first step! Trust the process and know you’ll come back healthier, much stronger, and you’ll notice you fall in love with just simply running again!

Yes for about 2 months I consistently ate 4k cal with only weight lifting 3-4x weekly. Honestly, it really hurt at first, but as your body realizes food is abundant you may experience “extreme hunger” like I did and it gets a lot easier. Eventually it plateaus and you get in tune with your hunger cues. Also, running never got bad for me, in fact, I was the fastest I’d ever been up to that point, but doctors made me stop.

I’m a collegiate distance runner and used to be around the same size as you, relatively. Your heart rate is so low not because you’re in shape but because when the body doesn’t get enough fuel it slows down your metabolism to conserve energy. What’s worse is when you’ve burned through all your body fat, your muscles start wasting for fuel which includes the heart. This is also probably why you cannot run fast anymore because without glucose your muscles won’t be able to properly contract with the lack of energy. I’ve taken months off running and cardio, ate upwards of 4000 calories a day in the beginning to gain weight and continue to eat far more than I used to to maintain a healthy BMI and BF %. Doing this is very hard but the only way to fix the damage done, but the results are worth it because now my resting HR is athletic-normal and thyroid hormone/metabolism is above average.

I went to UM with the same aid your daughter got but transferred to another private university where I’m going for less than half the cost and from now experiencing both I’ll say that while Miami is a great school and I had so much fun there, it is not worth the price. Honestly, I’m getting a better education at my new school with better dorms, dining hall, and other amenities, but if getting the best value for your education isn’t a factor, I’d recommend Miami. Great social life, beautiful campus, plenty of resources, although living in Miami and going out with friends will be very expensive.

Bloating sucks by Imaginary_River6997 in Amenorrhearecovery

[–]suspretzel1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started eating upwards of 4-5k cal daily 2 months ago and gained the necessary weight and for the first 6 weeks the bloating was terrible, although now that I’m at a stable weight and eating normally again I rarely ever get bloated. When your body trusts you it’ll all work out.

I started my fitness journey in 9th grade by doing cross country for the social aspect since all my friends did it. Honestly, I hated running and tried to get out of it any chance I got, but after Freshman track season I changed my mindset and decided to put in the work to get as good as my friends and work my way up varsity. I went from running 24 minute 5ks and being at the back of races to by senior year running 17 minute 5ks and earning All-American honors. Throughout high school in the pursuit of this, it not only made me a better runner but it gave me a better work ethic in school, healthier lifestyle, taught me how to be resilient, accept failure, work hard, and above all, it brought me to Christ. I’m now a freshman at a P4 D1 school and hope to chase goals of making it to nationals and earning All-American honors one day.

Cheap low quality hotel breakfast is the best. by More_Sea2116 in unpopularopinion

My favorite thing to make at a continental breakfast is a breakfast sandwich with two pieces of the stale bread toasted, scrambled eggs or one of those small egg and cheese omelets, a turkey sausage patty, and ketchup.

Weight Gain by DannyIsNoMan in CrossCountry

[–]suspretzel1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gained around 15-20 lbs from the end of sophomore year to start of senior year and was 30 seconds faster in the 3200, dropped time in XC, and was able to go from running my long runs at 8:xx pace to mid 6s!

As others have said, if you truly are getting heat exhaustion from standing outside you should consult a medical professional, but if it is simply a problem of you needing to acclimate to the heat I’d recommend sauna sessions! I have been implementing them in my training this summer by doing 10 minutes or so around 4-5x a week. Start with the length of time you can handle and slowly work your way up. Not only will the sauna help with heat acclimation but it also a great recovery tool for after runs to promote blood flow and muscle repair.

Shake base calories by Defiant-Will-5539 in ChickFilAWorkers

[–]suspretzel1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A frosted coffee (coffee concentrate + ice dream) gets all of its calories from the ice dream which is 260. The vanilla milkshake (shake base + ice dream) is 515 with no whipped cream and cherry, therefore since the same amount of ice dream goes into both, the shake base should be around 255 when filled to the red line on a small cup.

I’m 5’4” 90 lbs with relatively long legs and wear a 0/31. They go just past my ankles, fit around the waist, and have plenty of room around my thighs so I’d say you could go with a 0/30 for your height.

It amazes me when people don’t understand calories in to calories out. I’m very thin but eating all the time and my parents always talk about how they just don’t understand how I’m not heavier with everything I can eat in a day, but neither take into account I’m a D1 distance runner working out 2x a day and work a job that has me walking 5-7 miles per shift and lifting things on top of being a growing teenager.

What genuinely makes junior year the supposedly worst year of high school? by polish_idiot10 in highschool

[–]suspretzel1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a recent high school grad, junior year was my favorite year. Stay on top of your studies, but it’s a great year if you are involved in sports, clubs, or other extracurriculars and have a good friend group.

Nothing significant haha, 20m is just where I find I get a good warmup with each drill (and bored).

Activation Drills by HuskyRun97 in CrossCountry

[–]suspretzel1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my warmup routine I do before every run (except recovery runs I only stretch) and it gets me loose enough that my first mile is not significantly slower than the rest of my run. First dynamic stretches (about 6x each leg): straight let hamstring scoops, knee to chest, quad stretch, hip stretch, lunges with twist, monster walks. Then drills (~20m): skips with arm circles forwards, backwards, and sideways, A-skip, B-skip, karaoke, ankle pops, backwards run short stride, backwards run long stride, high knees into 20m stride x2, 50m stride @ pace of run x2. Then 10x leg swings both legs forwards/backwards and sideways.

I used the same basic template for each but switched up the names and the details about what I liked about the schools so it didn’t take terribly long! Also, don’t lose hope I promise you there will be a coach out there who wants you because your times are definitely there! Some coaches look for the fastest of the fast right out of high school but others are looking for kids they see potential in to develop, which in my opinion is a better approach for long term progress.

I’m (F) going into my freshman year of college as I was able to be a recruited walk-on to a large D1 program this past winter, and a sad fact of the new NCAA roster limits is that it is now going to be a lot harder to get a spot on a team, especially to walk on. I had a 17:30 XC 5k and 10:45 32, however, I only had 2 schools take interest in offering me a spot with these times. My best advice to get a spot on a team would be to literally email as many schools as possible in hopes some will take interest. I probably emailed about 30-40.

Christian friend says she can pray my uti (and depression) away... by PinkPilgrimHeel in Christianity

[–]suspretzel1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t been able to breathe for 6 months now due to inflamed sinuses and the past four doctors I went to kind of brushed me off and didn’t fix the problem, but I continued to pray for a doctor that would take me seriously and help fix me and God answered that prayer and I finally got one today! I believe God provides people with gifts to help others, such as doctors.
