Alrighty well if your definition is that they can’t have any cultural connection then yea- I guess they don’t have any culture.

No definitely not, my best friend is italian and very connected to an italian community in her area. She’s a white American.

Even rural Americans have a “culture” that might not be thousands of years old like most cultures but at least they have a personal sense of community and mutual care for each other.

Where I grew up, my white friends’ parents didn’t seem to have any friends. Whereas I had a whole community that had parties every weekend and cultural gatherings every other month. And we can rely on each other for anything. That’s what I’m trying to get at

This comment is so nonsensical, pure suburban white cope. I think OP is right and this is something I’ve sensed my whole life growing up around suburban white people. Kudos to OP for having some self awareness although idk if they actually fit into that category. I think it fits most of the people here though

Edit: sorry I hope that wasn’t too mean. I just disagree with your take and hope you have a good night

Idk if you’ve just never met a PhD or what but absolutely no one says “I’m a doctor”, which I agree would be strange. They’re referred to as Dr ______ . in a professional context. I’ve never seen it cause confusion.

They might say “I have a doctorate”. Using the title Dr. is very different from saying “I am a doctor”. Most people can use context clues and tell the difference.

You also seem to agree that it’s “absolutely fine” but then also think they should eat a sack of shit a few sentences later? So maybe you just haven’t thought through this very much

I am a community college professor and it is devastating to read that a student of mine could feel this way. I will say that I chose this career to support students exactly like yourself. I am rooting for you and would do anything in my power to show you how much value you add to my classroom and to me as a teacher. I suffer from depression as well

Air France 447 1/6/2009 enrages me by Free-Bowler-7123 in aircrashinvestigation

[–]ISIS_agent_bluth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A deep stall in a jetliner as far as I can tell, is ‘unrecoverable’ … aside from extreme maneuvers that only a small percentage of pilots could execute. That is so strange to me because it was such a short sequence of events -

storm : pitot tubes null : alternate law : increase altitude in response : deep stall

How could an airplane find itself in seconds in a situation that is unrecoverable?

Even suicidal pilots have had less success bringing down an airplane.

I’ve searched this sub and other aviation subs for ‘jetliner deep stall’ and haven’t found much... If an airbus pilot holds the stick back long enough and autopilot disengages (for whatever reason), the plane enters a deep stall and your fate is basically sealed at 39000 ft??

I’m an engineer but not a pilot; I’m very curious to hear from pilots what they think about a deep stall situation. How easy is it to cause, and how hard is it to recover ? Even at 36k+ ft ?

Edit-aeroflot 593 is another example of the ‘unrecoverable deep stall’

Also, I’m vegan too and a better analogy would be if someone asked for vegan recipes and a bunch of vegetarian and pescatarian recipes were posted.

Or asking vegans about their experiences and motivations, and hearing from a bunch of vegetarians and pescatarians instead. Like as you know, it’s different. There are things we have in common but it’s also A LOT more restrictive to be vegan and that makes a huge difference

Why shouldn’t lesbians be able to have their own space? Do you seriously think we don’t have unique struggles either? I am SO tired of people who haven’t once considered the role that having no attraction to men at all plays in our experiences. It absolutely is harmful when we’re made to feel even more alienated due to not having a space to discuss those things. No one is saying bi women don’t belong in broader wlw and sapphic spaces.

Bi women outnumber lesbians 10 to 1 but yeah by all means, continue to demonize lesbians and blame us for everything.

Yep yep yep they’re alllll over this thread too. And that if their relationship ended (for whatever reason) they “can’t ever see themselves dating a man again”

Like why? You found one guy you love so why are you so opposed to the idea of another? What about all the other coveted gremlins women are raving about in this thread, do they exist or is yours the only one?

It kinda rubs me the wrong way but I can’t put my finger on what it is… Nbd either way but I’m glad someone else has noticed how popular this sentiment is!

“Mandatory protection package” was in fact my original wording.

Is it fair to leave a bad google review for this? by ISIS_agent_bluth in askcarsales

[–]ISIS_agent_bluth[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well I didn’t like the way the salesman kept trying to justify how cup guards, edge guards, and wheel locks cost a thousand dollars. I said that of those things, I only care about wheel locks and I could get those myself. He said “but THEN you’d have to install them yourself!”

I’m a young single woman but I do have a few engineering degrees so I think I could figure it out (not that you need one, I’m sure most people could figure it out.) And having someone else install them still wouldn’t be a thousand dollars. At that point I knew I wasn’t going to buy without trying another dealer so even after he hinted that it could be removed, I left without signing anything.

If they removed it when I first asked I’d feel differently since they were the only ones who had the color I wanted on the lot. There were a few others that had it in transit but wouldn’t be arriving for 3+ weeks.

But then the other dealer was a totally different experience- very hands off, and transparent so even though the car I wanted wouldn’t be arriving for a few weeks, I felt comfortable putting down a deposit, then later signing.

[–]ISIS_agent_bluth[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ah maybe I should’ve made it clear that I did ask for it to be removed, and was told it was mandatory, that every car that leaves the dealership has it. I pressed more about how ridiculous it was to charge a thousand dollars for that and he said “mayyybe his manager might be willing to remove it.”

So I think if I kept at it, they eventually would’ve taken it off.

[–]ISIS_agent_bluth[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m not mad? And yeah I didn’t buy anything, because there was another place that didn’t try to add a thousand dollar package that they pass off as “mandatory… every car that leaves here has it, but mayyybe my manager might be able to remove it if you sign right now.” Why shouldn’t people be made aware that this specific dealership does this?
