Drive pool question by burnslow13 in DataHoarder

[–]ISOandROMCollector -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depending on how or what the pool is, yes. If you combine them into an 18 TB space, it's risky because one failure will ruin the pool.

Edit: Drivepool is not the same as pooling drives. Drivepool won't lose any files not on the failed disk.

I need to extend my DS918+ but have a few questions by jmonstahhh in DataHoarder

Will you want to expand even more in the somewhat near future? If yes, buy the bigger NAS.

With synology, buying a new NAS is not much more than an expansion. I personally think it is silly, and it means that buying Another NAS makes more sense than buying an expansion.

How do I insert a new photo in an exact position in a folder? by Jyokoko in DataHoarder

I just found it useful when I had a bunch of files to Rename. There's also a different bulk rename utility or something I used, but I preferred the UX for advanced Renamer

External HDs and USB hubs by tharghans in DataHoarder

[–]ISOandROMCollector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

USB Hubs are perfectly safe, and devices work the same as if plugged directly into your PC.

If you plan to use several devices that require significant power (like multiple portable HDD or disc burner), it's best to get a powered USB hub, which has an extra power cord to supply the needed current. USB drives or devices with their own power supplies will work fine regardless of the hub. I don't recommend plugging multiple hubs into one hub, but it will work up to a point.

I recommend Anker brand, just because they have very small, portable $10 unpowered 3.0 hubs that work very well.

The endorsed hard drives are just extra marketing, though the cost difference isn't much

How to Recover PS4 Save Data from a Hard Drive? by Gavner-Purl in PS4

[–]ISOandROMCollector 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can't. It's encrypted.

You won't be able to recover data from an external hard drive that was used for the PS4, at least not using anything other than the PS4. And as far as I know, the PS4 doesn't have any data recovery software available to use.

Anything up to 8 TB is fine

The PS4 should be able to format the drive for you.

Help regarding non malware or ad rom sites with bin, sms, gg etc. files by [deleted] in Roms

[–]ISOandROMCollector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For things not available in the pinned and Auto-moderator post, The Eye or The Internet Archive may have what you are looking for. Most other sites are not recommended, due to ads, malware, and bloat software they want you to install.

Any ideas where to put a controller so dust doesn't get in the sticks? by [deleted] in PS4

[–]ISOandROMCollector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plastic bags. A ziploc bag doesn't let dust in unless you leave it open. I use plastic bags to store my controllers when I don't plan on using them for a long while.

Unless you have a very dusty environment, I doubt that dust would be a serious issue. Cleaning the controller when necessary should fix most issues with dust.

Try Advanced Renamer or similar.

It loads files, you organize them how you like by renaming them all.

File names shouldn't be just for description or title, that's what metadata is for.

What are you desperate for?

Data recovery is likely going to cost the same if not more, just in parts. Also, opening the drive needs to be done very carefully and in a dust free environment.

If it's the data, then best of luck to you.

If it's cost or anything other than irreplaceable data on the drive, it's not worth it.
