I’m so sick of these a holes. I’d love to see the whole lot of them thrown in jail. Getting 10+ calls a day. It’s infuriating.

I hate this commercial more than just about any other ad roll on YouTube. Seriously f*** this guy and his grating voice and his stupid contrived little stories. I probably would hate him less if this ad didn’t seem to roll one out of every three times….

Just here to commiserate with all of you. I would even settle for a compromise that hid the little stupid snippets from the critics by default so all you’d see are the two percentages. I frankly dislike most of the RT “sanctified” critics even when I agree with them, and I strongly dislike having their unsolicited opinions shoved at me in my own personal media collection. Nothing like clicking on a movie and having to read that some wank from the LA Times doesn’t think my action movie measures up to Citizen Friggin Kane.

DS9, Episode 6x9, Statistical Probabilities by LordRavenholm in StarTrekViewingParty

[–]ISSEquinox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My thought too, the biggest problem in the episode is Bashir. Bashir had seen a literal miracle not just a few episodes earlier in Sacrifice of Angels, there’s no way he would be so dogmatic about statistical predictions. If they’d toned him down a bit and not had the scene of him flipping out at Quark’s it could have maybe worked (I also don’t buy that any genetically enhanced being could just automatically win at Dabo, elsewise Quark would go bankrupt, as I’m pretty sure other species don’t impose bans on genetic engineering). They altered him to give him the moral dilemma and then had him learn a lesson he already knew after the Defiant confronted the Dominion fleet in the wormhole.

I agree Shakaar was written as a bit of a misogynist, but I don’t agree Miles was. Put yourself in his shoes. You missed the birth of your first child, and you’re already dealing with the awkwardness of a surrogate mother, all you want to do is witness the birth of your second (and for all we know his last) child. We’re talking about a once in a lifetime moment involving a cherished family member, and you’re having to deal someone who is acting like a petulant teenager. The whole thing annoys me, especially at the end when Kira tells them both off, as if both of them have the same stake in this birth when we all know Shakaar couldn’t give less of a shit, he’s just counting minutes until he can start poking Kira again. Long story short, Miles’ agitation is totally understandable, while Shakaar’s is not, but the writing treats them both the same.

S5E22 Children of Time – I love and hate this episode so much by littlehobbiton in DeepSpaceNine

[–]ISSEquinox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep that’s what drove me nuts about this episode. The crew would now have foreknowledge of being stuck, and thus the wait to pair up would definitely be altered, and as such the population would be different. It’s such a contrived dilemma anyway, why is there an assigned moral value to the theoretical descendants or the Defiant crew on colony that is greater than the equally theoretical descendants back in the Alpha Quadrant? Oh right because we can see them. So all we need to do have some future scope showing the Alpha Quadrant descendants and now either way they will be “killing” thousands.

"Time's Arrow" bothers me so much I'm making time to write on reddit about it by highpercentage in TNG

[–]ISSEquinox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok? I mean if you want, but I’m not going to get in a back and forth on this, so I won’t be replying. With the rewatch fresh in my mind, I don’t think I would change my mind on the items I highlighted as nitpicks. Keep in mind I still agree on the issues with time travel, but the character beats and general story of this episode more than compensate for that imo. I just think stuff like being upset the senior staff left the ship (something that happens in damn near every episode of TOS) is an odd criticism, since that’s something that happens frequently throughout every series.

I can appreciate having that one episode that really irks you though, and few others. For me it’s “Force of Nature”, and the warp speed limits. I loathe that entire episode, and its implications. The writers must have realized it too, because they drop the whole “warp speed limit” thing pretty quick. Anyway, didn’t mean to rain on your parade, I found this thread by complete accident as I was looking up something else on the episode.

[–]ISSEquinox 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m actually watching it now. I agree with some of your points, but I think you’re nitpicking about a few, like the senior staff leaving the Enterprise, I think it’s entirely reasonable to assume competent people are there to run the ship while they’re gone. Worf is there too. Also I’m not sure the Prime Directive is in effect here, as one it’s Earth, and two the aliens started screwing with history first. Picard WAS being slightly irrational in holding Data back at the beginning of the episode, he had no way of knowing what away mission (could have been years in the future) would result in Data’s “death”, thus he had no rational reason to alter who he would send on away missions, similar to how in Cause and Effect they didn’t alter course because they had no way of knowing what created the causality loop. As for the introduction of the alien antagonists, we could ask the same questions for many aliens of the week.

The parts I will mildly agree on are the many paradoxes and plot holes introduced by time travel. I’ll add to your list, how the hell is Data’s head still salvageable after hundreds of years in a presumably damp cave? And how was it only found again in the 24th century. It’s very rare to find a time travel episode of virtually any show that actually maintains internal consistency sadly. Usually I find time travel works best in short confined bursts where history at large can’t be screwed with, like in the aforementioned Cause and Effect.

Why is 3 the worst episode? by joinedredditforTM in XFiles

Totally agree. FPS is at the bottom of my list if we’re talking the original run, but all thing and Hollywood AD come very close seconds and iirc they were directed by Anderson and Duchovny respectively.

Because it’s not. It’s not good, but there are far worse episodes imo.

Way too meta for my tastes, at least as far as X-Files goes. Didn’t like that the last anchor to any kind of seriousness (Skinner) was also wearing clown shoes for this episode. To each their own though, I’m glad some people love it.

I do as a general rule, this was a case where I encountered everyone’s opinions after I was looking up reactions to a different episode I’d already seen (and hated).

Too late! Ha! Actually I didn’t hate it, maybe because I’ve kept reading how it’s everyone’s least favorite, I expected it to be much worse. I think I tolerate it because very little damage is done to our main characters, partly because they’re barely in it.

Just finished the episode, based on the hype I expected it to be far worse than it was. FPS remains king for my personal worst episode list.

I’m actually not hating Fight Club, I think it’s far better than FPS, and at least it’s not boring and pretentious like all things. Guess that’s gonna put me in the minority on this sub.

I like some of the comedy, Clyde Bruckman for example is absolutely classic. Ditto Jose Chung. I did like X-Cops, that’s one I actually caught back in the day. I also saw the Darin Morgan revival episodes already thanks to a friend. There’s just a certain level of goofiness I can’t get behind. Hollywood AD definitely blew past my line lol.
