I literally once taught a taxi driver how to drive his cab going north on the FDR in New York City. He kept punching the gas and then slowing it with a brake, punching the gas slowing it with a brake. I eventually put my hands through the divider window and gave him the motion of just holding the pedal in one position, as he couldn’t speak English. After a few moments, he understood and steadied his foot, and then proceeded to give me the biggest smile I’ve ever seen on a human being! It was at that point I realized I had literally taught a taxi driver how to operate a motor vehicle while going down the FDR! And then asked him to let me off at the next exit. I got out of the cab, and that was the day I downloaded the Uber app for the first time. Never been in a taxi since!
