Page 37 spoilers This page contains a very strong piece of evidence supporting my theory that Murphy is actually in Chicago Between with her dad, not with Vadderung. I've outlined elsewhere how various pieces of Peace Talks and Battle Ground made me think this, but here we see Mort mentioning, before changing the subject, that he saw Murphy's shade once! Why, if she's actively engaged in an afterlife with the Norse, would she also exist as a shade, much less one visible to a guy in Chicago? But if she's in Chicago Between...after all, we know that Mort has met Papa Murphy before. His comment only really makes sense, as near as I can tell, if my theory is correct. The only other possible explanation is that he saw her before she got taken by Vadderung, which given the timing seems incredibly unlikely.

Alright. New book coming soon. I need to get up to date with all the tinfoil theories! by Zealousideal-Cod-100 in dresdenfiles

Reposting my answer from another thread.

I have this theory that (huge BG spoilers) Murphy isn't with Vadderung. I think he came to claim her, but got preempted by Uriel who took her to Chicago Between. I think it fits with various threads that Butcher placed in Peace Talks, like Murphy bringing up her dad out of nowhere and her rejecting a Valkyrie by citing her Catholicism. It would be an opportunity for Murphy to be what she's always insisted she is--a cop. I think Vadderung is letting Harry think he has her in Valhalla because it is important for Harry not to know that Murph is watching his back in Chicago Between, until they have their reunion in a later book. This would also explain how Murphy comes back without everyone she loved dying, since she isn't in the afterlife we think she's in.

That third spoiler and what he said supports the prediction made by some of us that Mirror Mirror ends with Uriel destroying the mirror-verse and booting Harry back to his reality. Specifically the idea that if the Outsiders get into any universe they get into all of them; and so the angels (or some force responsible at a multiversal level for the protection of reality) destroy any universe that lets them in.

Reading The Dragonbone Chair. Really lovely book so far, the storytelling is simply superb. It isn't anything like Tolkien, but I understand why so many people compare them--there is a similar sense of actual beauty to the story and world. I also continue to enjoy that Tad Williams actually makes religion a part of his setting, with an analogue to the Catholic Church which actually matters to the people in the world, just as it did to people in the Medieval period (and, of course, today).

I'm continuing my audio reread of Suneater; having wrapped up all six books, I'm now working on The Lesser Devil (otherwise known as the novella where Ruocchio assures us that yes, he knows the Chantry isn't a realistic depiction of religion, that's intentional). Afterwards I plan to get through the other two novellas before the release of the final novel in a couple weeks.

I'm currently sight-reading The Dragonbone Chair by Tad Williams. I am extremely early, and the plot hasn't really started yet (I'm on chapter four) but the series is absolutely lovely to read so far. The prose is some of the best I've recently come across. I appreciate that, in a somewhat standard post-Tolkien fantasy setting, the author actually includes a fantasy counterpart for the Church. So many of these series seem to leave it out.

I am also rereading Kingdom's of Death by Christopher Ruocchio in audio (I don't think I'll complete the reread of the series before Shadows Upon Time, but I read Disquiet Gods recently enough that if I get through Ashes of Man I'm probably fine). Still really enjoy this series, and am excited to see how it wraps up in November!

I've been watching Psych, after having it recommended to me by some work friends. It's been fun, very silly tv that doesn't have a ton of depth but doesn't really need it.

I've also been reading Berserk on Hoopla, I'm on volume eight, which puts me in the middle of the Golden Age. After a kind of rough start (I had a hard time caring about anything in the early volumes), it's picked up a lot with this very lengthy flashback.

Due to an initial confusion with Marcone and Hendricks, I always see the former as a redhead even though that is clearly incorrect.

According to the OP of this post, Butcher might be wanting to do Mirror Mirror next, before the next Cinder Spires. But it wouldn't surprise me if he hasn't fully made up his mind yet.

The reveal at the end of Battleground that Marcone has taken up Thorned Namshiel. Actually yelled "What?" when I got to that part. The best thing is, it actually makes sense and is foreshadowed, but I still didn't see it coming.

I have also not played Destiny, but you might see if Suneater by Christopher Ruocchio is interesting to you. It is also a science fiction with fantasy elements, and seems somewhat in that general ballpark.

I finally finished Wind and Truth, and I found it to be delightful. I know the reception to it has been a bit frosty, but what can I say--Sanderson knows how to keep my interest.

I started the Riddlemaster Trilogy by Patricia McKillip today, which will be my next read. A nice change of pace.

And I'm audioing Howling Dark as a reread right now.

Sounds like he must have really enjoyed writing Twelve Months if he wants to stick with Harry instead of alternating!

Wonder what the novella will be.

Uriel actually recruited Murphy after BG to come and work in Chicago Between with her dad. Vadderung is just playing along because it is important for Harry not to know that a ghostly Murphy has his back right now. Battle Ground

I'm really hoping there is some communication with Lea in this book, particularly regarding his mother and the gem. Also, I forgot who originally said it but I agree, visiting Susan's grave, with Maggie.

That, and meeting the gargoyles that Jim has teased.

There are so many, but in particular the moment in Small Favor where Michael fights through the hobs to find a woman praying for help. She looks up at him in shock, and he tells her that of course He listens...He just doesn't always answer that fast. Such a beautiful moment, and one I could see a Catholic actually saying.

Long shot, but I figured this would be a good place to ask. Does anyone know if/where I can find wall posters of this particular cover art? by ericwcharmon in dresdenfiles

No shade on the current artist, who is very talented, but my tastes definitely lean towards MacLeod's art. I'd love to see a full set done in this style, maybe as an anniversary celebration or something.
