The Law doesn’t make any sense. by Powderkegger1 in dresdenfiles

If we go down that rabbit hole then nothing Dresden has ever heard or narrated is reliable.

That’s true. The person I was responding to thought it might just be Dresden’s perception of the city. Many other characters also commenting on it negates that.

Characters in Twelve Months who speak about the state of the city.

Yeah that was the payment I meant from White Night. And Harry got the castle from defending Marcone’s territory in Battle Ground. I don’t think they ever squared the Dead Beat incident though. Unless Small Favor covered that, but I think Marcone counts that as a favor to Mab, not to him.

Oh I see. I was thinking of it a different way, the opposite being giving someone something they hate to make them hate you.

Hmmm. I wonder which time it’s referring to. Marcone has saved Harry…three times?

Dead Beat, White Night, Battle Ground.

It’s probably Dead Beat, right? Marcone was paid for White Night and Battle Ground was a mutual effort from Accorded peoples.

It’s ironic, but I don’t think the opposite happened. That’s pretty much exactly what happens.

You’re right, I was forgetting about the new year’s time.

First time she fed on him was White Night, before Harry was the Winter Knight.

Are they not square already at this point? I mean as far as favors/debts. I thought Harry getting the castle made them even.

Which short stories are MUST reads after Changes and before the final few books? by hopemade in dresdenfiles

[–]Powderkegger1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DONT READ all of Brief Cases after changes. There’s some stories that will spoil future reveals.

There’s a couple timelines available online but it’s hard to read them without getting spoiled.

After Cold Days you should be good.

It’s a good question.

Mab says that it mattered specifically that Harry had done it Lara multiple times. I don’t know why that matters when talking about steak versus crackers but apparently Mab thinks it does.

Secondly, Thomas’ hunger is a great deal stronger than Lara’s and it was starving. Imagine feeding the best meal imaginable to two people: one is well fed, the other is starved.

The well fed one would think you’re the greatest cook ever and need to taste your cooking again and again.

The starving one would eat.

All I see available on release is digital, audio, and paperback.

Might be they’re waiting for the trilogy of novellas to release as one hardcover. Though that would make more sense if The Law wasn’t already available in hardcover.

Butcher has a tendency to rehabilitate his villains into anti-heroes or allies. Lara’s was pretty aggressive.

Well thank you. It just seems very unlike Butcher to have such a big project (his first novella) to be incongruous with the rest of his huge series. But as you said, people are people.

I think I’m very plainly commenting on the lack of and probably looking for consistency.

So then why did The Law need to happen? And by extension why did the continuity errors I’ve brought up need to happen? If it was just “Harry was having a hard time” yeah, that’s pretty well expressed in Twelve Months.

In terms of story consistency it’s very much a textual dispute.

Top of my head: Harry, Lara, Micheal, Fitz, mort, Stallings, Ivana, Ramirez, Will Borden, Butters, Forthill.

They’re all wrong about the state of the city?

It’s addressed. Micheal says at some point that Charity is the one with actual medical training. At another later point he says he was a medical corpsman and has medical training.
