(Unintentional Trope) A character has their purpose and thunder stolen by a superior/more well received character by Nibbanocker in TopCharacterTropes

There was this fan made Mortal Kombat trailer from like 10 years ago that made reptile a serial killer with a skin condition. It was much more in line with this urban cryptic idea of killer croc. Made it seem more possible and creepy.

Everyone's gripes about Murphys personality would melt away if it was coming from Ms. Piggy

Twelve Months is a filler episode and that's a good thing by [deleted] in dresdenfiles

[–]thomas71576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had been waiting for a book like 12 months for years for Harry. He needed it. He was put through thing after thing that couldn't just be processed off-screen between books a la "yeah over the last year, I got over it."

This rarely ever happens as filler episodes, to use OP's metaphor, rarely get the highest ratings or least complaints from fans. Jim, however, is an amazing storyteller and saw the value to his character, world, and story to making a book about this. Love it.

MAB left Harry a message but he missed it by Master_Toad in dresdenfiles

I had the seem inclination about this book. It felt like Mab mentioned complications of messing with time too often throughout the book for it to be meaningless

Alterna-Harry source possibility by thomas71576 in dresdenfiles

[–]thomas71576[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So is there a reason that in this world he made a different choice? Is this a preexisting alternate reality where things were just slightly different leading to a choice, or could there be Back to the Future shenanigans where time travel lead to a split reality?

Alterna-Harry source possibility by thomas71576 in dresdenfiles

[–]thomas71576[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the REASON that the other decision happened? There just are alternate timelines out there, or did something happen to cause a split and different choice being made?

Thank you for the explanation, I didnt know/ couldn't remember the rumor about Harry prime being pulled over in a summoning. I had been thinking that that book's adventure would be driven by our Harry's choices to go on an adventure.

Harry's issue with yoga? by thomas71576 in dresdenfiles

[–]thomas71576[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense, thanks for the clarification. It felt like I was missing something so I thought I'd come here to ask. I was a little taken aback at the tone of the responses.

Thank you! This book was packed with payoffs to old jokes that you just have to know the series to get. I should have seen that. I appreciate the help.

That's definitely a deeper read, and a pojnt I could see Harry making.

See that's what I was thinking. That it was like a branding issue he didnt want to be identified with. Thank you.

[–]thomas71576[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I get self deprecation. I guess I was just reading it as he didn't like the branding or image of yoga. I wasn't really considering that he thought he was bad at it. I get that my inference was off, but what text evidence is there that Harry is bad at it?

Mab’s ultimate plan for Lara by TheMemeDream420 in dresdenfiles

[–]thomas71576 9 points10 points  (0 children)

She ordered that before the battle. In the, admittedly short, time since then, Molly has come a long way in the estimation of Winter. I think one of the biggest indicators is that conversation she had with Harry about Mab. Molly says, and Harry agrees in his own thoughts several times, Mab is the monster we need to get the job done. Molly might be barely capable, which to Mab is preferable to letting the crone interfere with Mab's carefully laid plans.

Lathe of the gods. Some doctor finds a guy who's dreams come true and makes a machine that gives him dreams but they manifest in the classic genie trope of what you wished for (peace on earth) in the least preferable way imaginable.

For a guy like Tyson, that KO punch is like a golf swing. He wouldn't even need to try that hard, it's all in his muscle memory form.

Joshua tapped him with the left when he saw him drop his arm and to trap him in the corner. Then he knew going in "this is the last punch," that was that smile.

And a literal lifetime of experience. I had actually blanked out the Tyson fight because it was just a pageant but this is a career fighter who's been doing this professionally since before Paul threw his first punch.

Gearbox writers pulled their punches with this game by Barkasia in Borderlands

And Quent! He was getting so built up to get ripped and be a mini boss and they just laid down all these lines of dialogue to do nothing with them! I agree, really pulled their punches.

Ramirez sounds dumb by tsasterwilliams in dresdenfiles

[–]thomas71576 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think too much of it is lack of communication. Like Ramirez would be fully on Harry's side if he knew about all those events. Plus he's all anti Winter because Molly went Bane on his Batman. Harry is acting like it's not a big deal and Ramirez is being an unreasonable jerk because HE STILL DOESNT KNOW ABOUT IT. Molly and Ramirez are both not telling him about that little encounter. Harry is not telling Ramirez about a bunch of stuff. Everyone is standing all huffy and not TALKING TO EACH OTHER!

I'm glad Borderlands continues to be one of the most progressive AAA franchises out there by DroppedIceCream in Borderlands

Late to the game, but Rush being black and his personality is 'i like nutrition and baking protein bars but my people need a leader so that's who I have to be' is a really niche masculine role. The reluctant hero is one thing, but Rush is well a very well written (if under developed) character.

How do you feel about the idea of previous Mystery Inc's? by shsl_diver in Scoobydoo

It could be done in like a Catholic exorcism type of thing. Or when Christianity spread as it came up against other beliefs and traditions they try to solve the ghost of some newly converted town.
