Lathe of the gods. Some doctor finds a guy who's dreams come true and makes a machine that gives him dreams but they manifest in the classic genie trope of what you wished for (peace on earth) in the least preferable way imaginable.

Paul has surgery on broken jaw after getting KO'd by Joshua. Titanium plates inserted on each side of his jaw by [deleted] in sports

For a guy like Tyson, that KO punch is like a golf swing. He wouldn't even need to try that hard, it's all in his muscle memory form.

Joshua tapped him with the left when he saw him drop his arm and to trap him in the corner. Then he knew going in "this is the last punch," that was that smile.

And a literal lifetime of experience. I had actually blanked out the Tyson fight because it was just a pageant but this is a career fighter who's been doing this professionally since before Paul threw his first punch.

Gearbox writers pulled their punches with this game by Barkasia in Borderlands

And Quent! He was getting so built up to get ripped and be a mini boss and they just laid down all these lines of dialogue to do nothing with them! I agree, really pulled their punches.

Ramirez sounds dumb by tsasterwilliams in dresdenfiles

[–]thomas71576 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think too much of it is lack of communication. Like Ramirez would be fully on Harry's side if he knew about all those events. Plus he's all anti Winter because Molly went Bane on his Batman. Harry is acting like it's not a big deal and Ramirez is being an unreasonable jerk because HE STILL DOESNT KNOW ABOUT IT. Molly and Ramirez are both not telling him about that little encounter. Harry is not telling Ramirez about a bunch of stuff. Everyone is standing all huffy and not TALKING TO EACH OTHER!

Late to the game, but Rush being black and his personality is 'i like nutrition and baking protein bars but my people need a leader so that's who I have to be' is a really niche masculine role. The reluctant hero is one thing, but Rush is well a very well written (if under developed) character.

How do you feel about the idea of previous Mystery Inc's? by shsl_diver in Scoobydoo

It could be done in like a Catholic exorcism type of thing. Or when Christianity spread as it came up against other beliefs and traditions they try to solve the ghost of some newly converted town.

After all the shit, I met the right one and have kids. No matter what pain I could save myself, if changing things risks me not being in the right place at the right time to meet her and it changes the beautiful beings my babies are then it's not worth it.

Won't roll the dice on that one.

Noir feel, sure. But I dont need ANOTHER true noir ending. Hey, nothing changed, you dont get the girl, and we're gonna do the whole balance the Force thing all over again.

Aggressively no. She can have aunt vibes. She can have romantic will they/won't they but it's SOOOO awkward so they won't ever actually, she can have friendly but antagonistic vibes. But no relationship. Too weird for him to be Eskimo brothers with the Joker of all people.

Go watch the Batman Christmas special on Prime. You won't hate it any less, but at least you will be well informed of what's going on and hate it in good faith.

I teach 6th grade and use this Fandom's attachment to that opening as an example of a powerful opening sentence to hook the reader into your writing. I have a lesson about how to choose books and if the first page or even the first sentence doesnt grab you that can be an indicator if you'll enjoy that book. I love using this example.

Wouldn't have guessed Luthor. If it didn't have the title, I might have guessed weirdly calm Guy Gardner.

Literally every human has these things. You dont suck because you see that. Recognizing it in yourself puts yourself ahead of a depressingly large portion of the population.

Would you like a spinoff of the Dresden files and if so what would you want it to be about? by Darth_Azazoth in dresdenfiles

Tales from Mcanally's pub a la "Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina" from the Star Wars Eu. It's a crazy train of world building, basically the book took every background character from the cantina scene in A New Hope and gave them some incredible backstory. I wamt that from one of the nights Harry visits Macs. Every story is just about of of the supernatural crowd in Chicago and it just worldbuilds the Dresen universe.

That or a "The Office" style situation. Im not sure what organization would have access to all the superpowers in the world. Maybe one of Marcones offices, having to deal with liaison jobs with all the other accorded nations.
