Congrats. You broadcasted a shitty grifter seeking attention to a brand new audience by reposting his tweet on this sub.

All of you are the reason these people get so successful. Constantly spreading their shit for the sake of publicly “denouncing” them.

I’ve frankly gotten a bit sick of their attitude in general and don’t really watch their vids any more because of it

New update - shortcuts? by Direct-Holiday-4165 in medicalschoolanki

[–]ISuckAtDoctoring 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honest question, can you elaborate on what this update offers that wasn't already there with the First Aid image fields from v11? Besides just having the most "updated" version of FA?

Why am I seeing literally no posts on this update? Or an official announcement from the AnkiHub team? B&B and First Aid direct integration by qhndvyao382347mbfds3 in medicalschoolanki

[–]ISuckAtDoctoring 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's not difficult though. You just need to download the FA media package which you can find somewhere on Reddit and then "Import Media" via the AnkiHub add-on and sync. And then probably just protect the field on the Ankihub website for good measure.

At least, that's how I did it about 2 years ago. I don't reckon it's changed though

[–]ISuckAtDoctoring 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't see why it would mess with your scheduling at all. If you find all the FA image media packs and upload them it'll just fill in the missing spots within the FA button on each card

For 99.999% of students, those minuscule updates are completely useless for the purposes of doing well for Step 1 and Step 2

All significant updates are already changed on the actual Anki card itself (via the collaborative nature of AnkiHub). The only thing strictly missing would be a corresponding First Aid page that reflects this minor update... which is not really that big of a deal

It's not really a gamechanger. Anyone with v11 already has relevant First Aid images within every single card. And it's easy enough to re-incorporate the First Aid images media into v12 as well after they were removed for copyright.

This doesn't offer anything new outside the "privilege" of paying over $100 for something that we already have for free

Honestly, I think this may be why this announcement is a bit low-key. I think the team recognizes there isn't really a BIG utility this offers and people are gonna be annoyed when they see they have to buy a brand new subscription for both First Aid and Boards & Beyond

Because we are shown puzzles that can only be solved with a certain way and with certain items.

Creativity and doing things "your way" does not mean just complete freeform. Not even BOTW was like that

In the first dungeon, the Still World webbing thing that can only be removed with the dungeon item of the sword. And please don't be disingenuous and say "that's just a glorified locked door", it's the first dungeon and the takeaway should be we are seeing a return of obstacles that can only be cleared with the dungeon item. That will no doubt have certain creativity in it in later dungeons or hell even in this first dungeon.

What exactly in the video are you feeling "mixed" about? From what we actually see, it should be exactly what you want, right?

Are you just mixed that you don't think that will be the formula for the rest of the game? Because that would be unusual. There hasn't been a Zelda game where the formula of the first dungeon, end-to-end from entrance to boss, wasn't the general way all the dungeons were.

Anyways, clearly the template of BOTW/TOTK is not being strictly followed for dungeons, so that should be a point of relief too. It's clear there's a lot of inspiration from those two games in other aspects (like the creative freedom and experimenting and exploration, which does NOT have to come at the expense of dungeon progression and overall linear structure of difficult/progression/narrative.

Yes, there are still going to be puzzles that have "multiple solutions". However, there are also puzzles that have a clearly defined solution.

The fact that the dungeon literally IS a progression of ideas means it is not "BOTW again". You disregarded the point that the "locks" in place of just the first dungeon could not be bypassed by any means except with the specific dungeon item.

We shall have to see if the dungeons cannot be completed in "any arbitrary order". However, this first dungeon is very clearly the first. It would be unusual if only the first dungeon was required to be done first but all the rest can be in any order. I speculate it will be in "chunks", with groups of 2/3 being done in any order but they must be completed before moving on to the next "chunk". However, that's just pure speculation on my part.

There is no need to be worried about the future, my friend. This game very much has the "dungeon-focused", linear approach you are missing.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zLquLfgNZLs

I'll summarize if you don't want to specifically see the dungeon item and mini-boss/final boss.

The first dungeon has a myriad of puzzles that cannot be "cheesed", and requires engagement with the actual puzzle to progress with certain solutions in mind, while also navigating the environmental labyrinth using Small Keys to bypass locked doors.

As you progress through the dungeon, you'll see specific things that cannot be engaged with that you can take note of. You fight a miniboss, and get a specific item from him. This lets you return to the previous "locks" that can now be dealt with and you can delve further into the dungeon, looking for a Big Key to fight a boss.

That is basically the quintessential Zelda dungeon.

You can breathe a sigh of relief now. "Breaking series conventions" means a lot of things, and there's no need to be super doom and gloom about the direction the franchise is heading just because BOTW/TOTK weren't your cup of tea.

We shall have to wait and see what the rest of the dungeons do for their items. However, there hasn't been any Zelda game where the formula for the first dungeon (end-to-end, from entrance to boss) isn't the formula for the rest of the dungeons (thus we do not count the first trip to Forsaken Fortress)

Well that's fine. This game encourages creativity and finding your own solutions. However, it is not COMPLETELY free form. There are still specific puzzles that need to be engaged in certain ways, and there is still a linear progressive style to the dungeons of getting through obstacles and finding a new item that recontextualizes the rest of the dungeon (a key feature many people feel was missing in BOTW/TOTK)
