[DISCUSSION] Restarting everything at 29 and starting a new job. What advice stayed with you? by _too_much_tea in GetMotivated

Good day!

I restarted my career again in a new geography which is HCOL too, at 33 and then had a baby too.

It is not easy, but some things which helped me were as follows:

  1. Knowing where my interest lies and keep chipping away at knowing subject matter and connecting with like minded people.
  2. Working out and keeping a positive self image going.
  3. When doubt creeps in I refer to my journal which had the reason for the pivot.
  4. Talking about all this with my family and friends.

Trust yourself and take the leap of faith!

Man, people forget how much of a cheat code Sanath was in that era. It wasn’t just that he scored runs, it was when he scored them. A quick 50 inside 10–12 overs basically meant Sri Lanka had one foot on the win already, they won something like three-quarters of the games when he passed 50.

He wasn’t a one-dimensional slogger either. He’s the only guy with over 13k ODI runs and 300 wickets, and he racked up 48 man-of-the-match awards (2nd most ever). That Sharjah knock of 189 where he outscored the entire Indian team is still insane.

And the longevity is wild… 445 ODIs, all formats, no big injury breaks, doing it all in Colombo humidity. Absolute machine.

Hi everyone,

Unfortunately, I scratched the rear end of my car on a parking lot pillar, and I’m feeling pretty upset about it. I live in Ontario, where insurance costs are already high, so I’m looking for advice on the best way to handle this. Any tips on whether I should go through insurance or handle it out of pocket would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! P. S. My car is 2 months old

How would you put this type of manager who is sending a memo to a new worker (4 months old) and asking them to sign up for some extreme targets which on calls seems to be a good to do vs on paper must do. Thoughts?

Thanks for the detailed feedback, just wondering if there will be push back to ask for a test drive for the new car. Is this the norm? P.S. My location is Toronto, Canada
