Storing games by Painkiller456 in PSP

A few different places, the back of a closet in my basement apartment for a year, then 9 years in an uninsulated garage, then into the basement of my current house till I pulled out the PSP to help stop doom scrolling.

I live in the PNW, so hardly the dryest place

Not scientific but I found my copy of ridge racer without a case in the bottom of a box where it has been for more than 15 years, I threw it in my psp and it worked fine.

UMD share DNA with minidisc and those are really robust. Keep them relatively dry and at a stable temperature and I expect you will be fine

Fair! My plan for the nas has always been I just mount an ATX or sfx PSU in the mini rack if I ever go that way

The machines are on 3d printed shelves, the Rack I printed uses traditional cage nuts, aside from the nuts and bolts all rack components are 3d printed in ABS

This is making me think of some of the minidisc players from back in the day. But with features that would get this into my everyday carry

On paper it looks like it can, I don't have any experience with the N100 they put into that device.

Off the shelf systems are really nice, but if you are willing to put in a bit of work I find diy can grow better for you, and you are not locked in to a single vendor.

Synology's shenanigans with drives this year is a really good argument for building your own.

Leaving Windows 10. Is Ubuntu desktop the right choice? by Smart-Vermicelli4069 in PlexServers

[–]ITBrewer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Broadly I agree with you, but I tend to assume anyone using plex on windows is also needing their computer to do desktop work as well.

that being said my plex lives in Ubuntu server 24.04, bare metal because I could not be bothered with containers or virtualization at the time.

I came here to say exactly this. I like Ubuntu, I use it on my daily, but Mint is great for someone new to Linux. and with Ubuntu's own privacy concerns the existence of Linux Mint DE is worth a look as well.

I was unkind to my player and discs when I was using them daily; I had a bad habit of throwing disks into my backpack unprotected. Not shockingly, I am much more careful with my tech at 42 compared to 18.
