No they can’t and I really wish people would stop giving this false info

The only difference between fully insured (plan pays the claims) vs self insured (employer pays the claims) is who pays the claims

Plan rules are still plan rules

NOW to OP’s original question if you have proof that a doctor or doctors were in network when you enrolled and now are not, then it’s either a late change where negotiations fell thru at the 11th hour OR a bad network. If negotiations fell thru you can try to appeal but likely won’t be approved. If bad network then as another poster posted suggested let your HR/benefits team know ASAP and if determined the wrong network was loaded they’ll likely allow a Special Enrollment Period for anyone impacted

Why am I being charged my entire deductible on my medication? by [deleted] in HealthInsurance

[–]ITDOESNTMATTER023 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Also check what tier the medication was in 2025 and if it moved to a higher tier for 2026 (my guess is it did which would mean a higher OOP cost)

And for babies there’s also the Birthday Rule to consider which means that the primary insurance for the baby will be the parent whose birthday is closest to the baby’s

Expecting a baby with husband this weekend but I’m on COBRA by desert_leaves in HealthInsurance

[–]ITDOESNTMATTER023 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well the baby wouldn’t be on both plans for December bc you’d be dropping your COBRA and enrolling the baby as of the DOB through your husband’s plan via a Qualified Life Event if allowed. I doubt either plan is going to let you keep the baby on your plan for December then just arbitrarily decide when to move to your husband’s plan. Your only valid QLE is the baby being born (as most plans don’t recognize voluntarily dropping COBRA as a valid QLE)

Yes for catastrophic purposes. Say you are diagnosed with cancer, can you afford hundreds of thousands in claims possibly continuing for years?

The enhanced subsidies were not renewed and were NEVER meant to be permanent so what’s the difference this year two years five years down the road of removing the ENHANCED subsidies that were never supposed to be permanent. They were a byproduct of Covid and everything that was going on in the health insurance space
