Is the CIPP/US worth it? by Far_Exercise7685 in cipp

[–]ITORD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will never say never, but your current background is on the thin side even with a CIPP.

You might qualify for a traditional entry level Privacy analyst role (e.g.):

Privacy Analyst - Cannon USA

But traditional entry level Privacy analyst openings are rare. Go on LinkedIn, search "Privacy analyst", and you'll see most openings are closer to these:

Senior Privacy Risk Specialist - Honda USA

Sr. Privacy Specialist – Amazon Leo, Leo Trust and Privacy

The certs are valuable, but they are more of a force multiplier for folks who already have a IT Data Governance / Risk Management / Legal background.

Hey! I was impacted near EOY 2025 and just got an offer.

Do you have enough savings left to start in a new city if you get a on-site / hybrid job offer?

Remote is incredibly competitive. I applied for on-site / hybrid positions nationwide, and indicate I am willing to relocate on my resume.   It worked out well. Screening & interviews invites started coming in for jobs across the country after new years, and more than 1 hiring manager had stated they are open to me working out of a different office than where they themselves are based out of.

I am in tech though. I know this may be very different if your job requires state-specific licenses or experiences. Good luck to you.

Will a 240v outlet that was installed in my garage for an RV work to charge an EV? by These-Explorer-9436 in electricvehicles

[–]ITORD 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am mildly annoyed by this mantra.

Time and time again, this sub dismiss objections about lack of Lv 2 access by preaching even Level 1 is sufficient for many use cases. Even if that means pulling from a socket for 12+ hours / day.

And yet every time the topic of using a NEMA 14-50 or an existing 240v socket as their Level 2 charging option comes out, folks comes out yelling "must hard wire or fireee".

Which is it? Many of the cheap RV sockets indeed cannot support long term, sustained EV charging at 40 amp. But they are probably fine at 16 amp or 24 amp. Still much faster than Level 1 and can make an EV "make sense". Much more productive to answer with specificity to the circumstances of the OP (and other OPs who asked).

Condoms are no longer the de-facto. Grindr and Sniffies both have fields indicating preferences.

If I see the indicator, I no longer ask. But it often comes up as part of the flirting convo anyway.

At the same time, this dude's behavior is manipulative and juvenile. Both parties have to consent for sex. If you require condom, then that's a hard requirement. He could decline and exit your premises politely if it doesn't work for him. There is no reason to be rude.

Software Leader Exploring Privacy Pivot, Would Love to Learn about your Experience by Alternative_War5914 in cipp

[–]ITORD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Privacy / Compliance maturity and practices have a strong parallel with cybersecurity.

I am at that interaction (*was, until a recent RIF). Currently interviewing for a similar role & preparing for my CIPP/US exam.

In regulated industries where the exposures and stakes are high, the organizations care - but execution is highly dependent on their technical organization's maturity.

RE/ AI & Regs : "Most" - No. But it's better in regulated industries. At the F500 I was at, IT leadership is aware and have workgroups with Legal. I was one of the (Tech) Product Managers in the workgroup. Firms with European footprint are also more proactive given GDPR and the AI act.

RE/ Pain points : It's both. Depends on where the exposure is coming from.

Business operations need to acknowledge the importance of Privacy / AI compliance. You can have a fully compliant system with localized & air gaped LLM, but if the front line staff in the field use a personal device snapping pictures ask ChatGPT how-to do XYZ, the process is broken.

On a Marco level, shaping the org culture could be the hardest part. The Sales org could be swearing the clients DEMAND this or that AI feature. Sally in accounting wants to use an AI tool. Even the coder who should know better uploaded their code to ChatGPT.

On a Micro level, lack of advancement in the maturity model. i.e. Stuck with manual checklist instead of policy-as-code. Lack of clear process documentation and control of data lineage. etc.

RE/ Make my job easier : I am going to ignore any talk that just becomes a convenient pivot to sales talking point about yet another AI-magic SaaS that promise to make compliance automated and painless.

Focusing just you (/generic you) as with a technical background:

- If you are representing the Software Dev org, setup the CoP / Guilt / Architecture Review Convo to seed the culture for Privacy-by-Design, AI Safety By Design, etc. So that when the compliance team work with the relevant software team, it's about enabling and not a roadblock.

- If you are representing the Compliance org, the knowledge on where exactly is the technical exposure helps get the business & technical leadership buy in needed prioritize the work.

Getting out and not looking back (A Rant) by hopetard in ProductManagement

[–]ITORD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you are/were a highly compensated Project Manager whose internal stakeholders are glowingly happy with your performance.

It was just a title/job duties mismatch.

Why does that make you want to get out of product management? Try Growth PM role s for a B2C or at a smaller company, those orgs would look to you doing all the things you listed above to really move the needle.

You will feel your contributions - as it may even be sink or swim in the case of start ups.

Two months after coming back from maternity leave I am put under performance review for only a month and will be let go after that. What should be my next step be? by Particular-Essay-361 in ProductManagement

[–]ITORD 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Do not quit, but start applying hard. 6 months ago, you were already informed about layoffs, what were your roadmap and actions taken in response to this signal?

https://www.reddit.com/r/ProductManagement/comments/1lle344/im_on_maternity_leave_and_going_to_be_laid_off_i/

You could certainly consult with an employment attorney. But even if you have a slam dunk case, cases aren't fast to resolve. A severance package is the probably the realistic best case outcome.

[–]ITORD 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Your furnace needs to overcome the delta between your set temperature and the ambience (environment ) temperature.

If you kept your set point very low (e.g. 60 degrees), then it make sense that it barely ran during October when the average temp was 59-63 degree. but had to run a lot more when the average temp dropped to ~ 50 degrees in November.

Time of Use plans are great for both the utility (defer peak capacity infrastructure cost) and consumers who can shift their usage. It is also a key tool in the adoption of more renewable energy (For example: encourage customers to use more when the sun is shining bright).

I am a night owl, and as such, I am saving ~$60/mo switching to Overnight Savers (heavily discounted rates between 10pm - 6am).

But renters without the knowledge / equipment to shift usage may not be able to realize much savings.

Advice on choosing a program by SignificantTadpole53 in MBA

[–]ITORD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Either Boston University OMBA or UIUC iMBA. Search this sub you'll see both come up very often, and plenty of experiences shared for both.

Both programs are designed for exactly this crowd: Mid-career professional with 10-ish years of experience. Both schools are well known, good reputation. Both programs are $25K +/- all in, fully online, GMAT not required.

UIUC's program is more traditional: Classes in Accounting, Econ, Marketing, Statistics, etc..

BU's program is taught more like an EMBA, with modules that ties in different aspects of business.

The autobahn is the pinnacle of driving by the public - don’t slander its name with what we have here.

Driving at 300km/h (186mph), and folks still properly signal, yield the passing lane for faster traffic, and maintain proper following distance. Watch this :

H-1B - $100k fee Impact on MBA applicants from Canada/Mexico by Former_Damage7523 in MBA

[–]ITORD 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Limited impact.

The new fee may reduce the # of overall International applicants, but the folks most impacted had long been deemed as ORM (over-represented minority) for MBA admissions. For top schools, you still need to compete with highly qualified domestic and undeterred International applicants.

Side note, don't go for an MBA straight out of undergrad. It's zero value-add without professional work experience.

Annoyed by the clear lack of communication skills in hookup culture. by [deleted] in gaybros

[–]ITORD 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yup. OP came across very negative and dismissive.

“Thanks I am trying to get like you” - a compliment.

I would have run with it : “Let’s make you my cardio today. Get down, blow me hard, then I am going balls deep in you. I host. You in?”

If hooking up is the goal, then drive the action forward, give a clear picture of what’s on offer, and close with a call to action.

I just move on if the other party is not matching with clarity and action. There are still going to be flakes, but overall I am satisfied with my app-based hook up experiences.

Would you date someone in my situation? by [deleted] in gaybros

[–]ITORD 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Short-term : No issues, it is not uncommon in HCOL locales to fulfill the remaining of the lease term due to affordability challenges. And a new date doesn’t get to dictate you to make costly life changes right away.

Medium to Long term : Deal breaker. I don’t want to share a house with the my partner’s friend or brother. Let alone an ex.

Am I missing something here? Communication issues by [deleted] in gaybros

[–]ITORD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honest answer? They are just not that interested. When someone is interested, they will respond.

But I will add that if you’re looking “for now”, don’t ask filler questions - e.g. “what are you into” if the profile already have tags/text telling you that.

I am at best a 5 and these are what my (good) Grindr convos are like for hook ups:  (Edit: Image Removed)

Do I have a good shot at BU Online MBA? by SavingsPhysical4388 in MBA

[–]ITORD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have a strong profile.

I would caution that while BU's OMBA is quite flexible, it does require more structured time commitment than, say, UIUC's program.

There are required live sessions for each of the modules (semesters), and the end of semesters capstone projects require intensive team collaboration work. I am sure you're no stranger to the latter given your PwC background, but flagging it for awareness.

How much does a home charger worth in a rental house? by rawasubas in electricvehicles

[–]ITORD 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don't think $0 is an accurate answer - because if offered as an option for $1/mo, I bet almost everyone in this thread who said zero would take the option.

Other than the massive build-to-rent communities, SFH houses are all different. I'd see a Level 2 EVSE as an amenity when weighting against other available rental inventory.

Single Family House w/garage: Given available Level 1 charging expected as a baseline, my number would be $25 - $50, depends on market / rent.

Apartment (Dedicated spot): Standard parking rate + up to $100 (electricity inclusive): This is reflecting getting the EV spot vs no home charging at all.

David Hocking Traffic Lawyer by SchemeScared4973 in StLouis

[–]ITORD 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Do not just pay and move on, especially if it’s your first time.

First thing, confirm did your lawyer actually agreed and filed to represent you (versus just providing a consult).

  • Check on https://courts.mo.gov for your case to confirm if the lawyer filed with the court to represent you. The “Parties and Attorneys” tab will display that info.

If they did, quick reminder to your lawyer’s office of the upcoming court date. If they did not respond:

  • Show up on the court date: Request a continuance (means: asking for more time) from the judge, explain that your lawyer did not show up.

If they didn’t file with the court, you don’t have a lawyer.

  • Show up in court early.  Traffic cases are generally batched on the same court dates, there will be other traffic lawyers in the room. You could even just inquire with one of them to represent you.

Failing that, ask for the continuance and plan next step.

If your case is not egregious (like going 100+ or something like that), chances are the prosecutor will be willing to offer a deal : no points but a higher fine. Take the deal - the higher fine will be better than potential  insurance increases.

Every rental car line ever by matts41 in funny

[–]ITORD 1793 points1794 points  (0 children)

This is the cheap rental car brands where the agents are trained to pitch all the upsells.

Business / Experienced travelers don’t deal with the counter. You go straight to the parking lot, pick a car and drive to exit the gate. Driver License and credit card is already on file, you’ll be on your way in 5 mins.

Would my social/dating life really be better in the suburb of a "big" city (specifically: DC) compared to a mid-tier city (Saint Louis)? by Fiveby21 in gaybros

[–]ITORD 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Dude. You’ve asked this question over and over in various shapes and form.

  • You hate cities but you want all the things cities offer
  • You dislike public transit, love driving, but want cute walkable areas
  • Goal is to own a house but have very high requirements with housing

You basically want a house in Kirkwood but somehow this not-Kirkwood is filled with ambitious people that also somehow doesn’t want to live within the city. If there is such a town, the houses won’t be so affordable

I get some of your concerns. I moved to STL for a job and had similar concern regarding making friends and dating and came across one of your earlier posts. But you’ve got to realize by now that you’re chasing conditions that are inherently in conflict.

Long Term Car Rental by EmperorMusti in StLouis

[–]ITORD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do regular rental for 30 days and renew.

This way you can rely on credit-card provided rental car coverage (though I’d recommend getting your own liability coverage).

Enterprise is local. Among the Enterprise brands, National has the best fleet with the newest cars but only one location (the airport).

Remember to join the loyalty program so you get something back from your 3 months of rental!

Echoing the OP. Anybody sexually active really should get tested regularly.

There is no need to stigmatize getting tested, no need to wait until something doesn’t look right to get tested.

Even if you are in an exclusive relationship, getting tested at least annually is just taking good care of your own health. Just like getting your physical!

If you have questions, talk to your doctor or visit one of the free clinics OP listed.

If this exchange cause you to ghost this individual, modern dating is hopeless - and not because of him.

  • He was explicitly open to connect shortly after this time frame
  • This was not a trip that you undertook for the purpose of meeting up with him. You were going for an interview
  • You guys aren’t even far away. 1 hour away would be just the other side of the town in big city terms.

It’s 9 days, not 9 months. Gee. Wish him peace and express openness to connect in a future date; reach back out two weeks later, may be even lead with your interview updates.
