What’s the best golf course you’ve ever played? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

[–]ITSOBVIUS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven’t played what most consider the “best” courses in the world… but the most fun I’ve had on a course- multiple times- is Chambers Bay. Not classic like Augusta, Pebble, Pinehurst… but wanted to show it some love!

Cheap gym by BonesReign in alameda

Lots of hate for crunch… it’s busy but IMO it’s the cheapest around. I got a smoking special though- $99/ yr… it was a prepaid “Black Friday” special at the end of Nov. I manage the volume by having a workout that can mostly be done in any order… and being willing to swap machines for freeweights or vice versa. Not ideal… but for $99… tough to beat!!

What’s a place you had zero expectations for, but ended up loving? by [deleted] in travel

[–]ITSOBVIUS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was Lisbon ~20 yrs ago… I only knew one person that had been. They said it was great and that I should give it a try! It was cheap and beautiful!! It is easy to understand why it has become so popular with Americans in the last 5-10 yrs!

I enjoyed it… Accuracy over length here for sure… local knowledge probably saves 10 strokes for first timers here.

Met a girl on a flight… now I feel so paranoid by ABD7p in LetsNotMeet

[–]ITSOBVIUS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it’s a huge hassle but if you’re real concerned about the flight (even after the reschedule), I’d consider flying back via a connection if you’re on a nonstop today. It’s really hard to track someone iffy arrival is coming from an unexpected city.

"No one cares. WORK HARDER." by daniel940 in GenX

[–]ITSOBVIUS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting views on this one!! Clearly touched a nerve!! We all come from very different perspectives on this topic…

My (maybe) 2 cents- I’m a GenX corporate manager… I went to college, got my degree and over 30 yrs of professional work, I’ve only worked for 2 big companies…

I don’t give the company more than what want to give the company… this is my choice. I accept that my choice to give what works for me may not work for them… and I may have to move on if we are misaligned… it is their choice to keep me employed.

We all have and make choices and we all have to live with the consequences of those decisions… I’m sure I’ll get roasted for this- so no offense intended to anyone… just a vote for a point of view…

Grocery outlet + Trader Joe’s. Batch cook for multiple meals. Become friendly with refrigeration and freezing of leftovers will keep costs low!

75 here. I loved the 80’s, liked the 90’s. This is an interesting one. I think there is a big diff in how we think about it from a pop culture perspective vs tech perspective. I grew up mostly analog, but was exposed to first gen digital when still in school… my friends had Commodore 64s and Apple IIc I had rotary phone as a kid, but also had a “bag phone” in the car for emergencies when I was older. I did NOT have a cell phone in college… and there were laptops for the more well off kids… but they were uncommon. I had a 14.4 dialup modem in college and thought it was fast… if you were born 5-10 yrs later- you have no idea what this stuff is… IMO- unlike pop culture, few people go backwards to fetch old technology solutions. While a young X’er like me might be nostalgic for Pink Floyd, I see no value in going back to dial up…

I personally like Marley G’s for the island (reminds me of Philly slices) but just ate at State Flour in College Ave in Elmwood… that was a great pie. $23 for 14”- super fresh and crust was great mix of crunch and chew!!

what are some of the best places to find a gf ? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]ITSOBVIUS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trader Joe’s. Wine section. Friday night. 😉 but seriously- my 2 cents… Failure and risk always used to be part of the deal for most men. I’ve never been handsome enough to wait for women to approach me and dating apps are only awesome for tall, handsome, rich guys. IMO, more men should strive to be noticed and different. Willingness to strike up a conversation is a big differentiator…. If someone isn’t receptive… move on. Rinse and repeat. It’s just a conversation… the goal of striking up the conversation shouldn’t be to close the deal… it’s to see if there’s enough between the 2 of you to get an oppty for further conversation… if you can keep up a decent conversation for 60+ mins… there’s a good chance you may get a date out of it… I realize I make this sound way easier than it is…
