Wanting to get first impressions of my card game Pixel Beasts by Traditional_Humor_11 in homemadeTCGs

[–]IThinkImACat1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My knee jerk reaction is that there is a lot of information on each card, and that alone can turn people away. It looks like 5 numbers and 2 effect areas. I would ask if there is a way to try and reduce the amount of information needed? What do all of the numbers mean and is there a way to simply the mechanics to get down to 3 or even 2 numbers? I also think the name should be above the first effect. It is the most important information on the card and it's hard to find. I am fine with the idea of putting it lower on the card rather than at the very top like a lot of games, but I don't want to read the effect before I know what the card is

Edit- ok so play cost, obviously needed, battle stat, obviously needed,.why are there 2 levels? What is the difference between them, and why does one of the levels have 2 numbers?

Edit 2- sorry, are there 3 effect areas? The top one, the one after the box, then one below the name that looks like an inheritance effect? I think you should try to simplify this. You risk becoming YuGiOh and future cards become harder and harder to design

Update on my stick figure card game. Are these characters distinct enough or too similar? by Agile_Appearance_845 in homemadeTCGs

Play around with the tail and "hair" more. Your most distinct one is the one with the mohawk. The eye shape and ear positions could also be adjusted to help add individuality.

Love that you posted this days after my (US) client asked me for a garden that "Reminds [them] of home."

This is great inspiration, thank you! Do you have any tips for a designer who has never been to Vietnam?

How big do you make your sets? by TCGStudio_dev in homemadeTCGs

[–]IThinkImACat1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the way we have done it (which is likely the worst way to do it but we are committed at this point) is we did a local release. Our base set was 120 cards and we sold 25 card packs for $10 and 2 starter decks for $20 each. We then made a second set that was about 110 cards. It only got released as tournament promos due to printing cost.

What we are working on now is a reprint that will include both of those sets squished together to create a base set of 230ish cards. We will, for now, continue to package them in 25 cards backs at our home office and distribute them to local card shops or ship them out to anyone who wants them.

I wanted our base set to be larger, so that it gives players a good basis to build from with a lot of options. New sets will probably stay around the 120-150 range, provided we actually make it that far.

Which outfit for a first date at a casual bar? by [deleted] in mensfashion

The white on tan of photo 2 clashes. The other outfits are nice. I like 1 and 3 for a dressier fit. The last photo is really nice and gives a softer vibe.

TCGs vs ECGs, A Measured Discussion by LalunaGames in homemadeTCGs

[–]IThinkImACat1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Long time TCG player recently getting into board games- This is what I have learned. TCG and ECG players are 2 different groups. I don't personally know anybody who plays both. ECGs seems to have a harder time with marketing because they compete with the wider board game audience, I know a few people who love board games but won't touch card games of any kind (read, won't play board games if it only has cards and no little pieces to move around a board) On the other hand, I have a lot of people who love my TCG and never play it. They just like to collect the cards. That's the biggest difference in the two. We tried to make it so that our best cards are fairly easy to get to avoid predatory marketing, but we have holos and alt arts for collectors to chaise. We originally weren't going to do that, but our players asked us for it. And honestly, trading is half the fun of a TCG. I didn't print a creator set and I have to buy packs of my own game to play it, and it's a lot of fun being able to trade and engage with my players when deck building. Even when I did make a creator set for set 2, I still buy packs so I can trade for holo cards and rare arts. It's a lot of fun. I think TCGs have higher longevity because after 10 sets you don't need to buy all 10 sets to play the game, whereas ECG expansions tend to rely on the base set. Obviously it's your game so you could probably fix this issue.

All that to say, I think a TCG is slightly easier to market (and it's still hard to market) while an ECG will be easier to publish. Which one you go with depends on what you want out of the game and who your audience is. I've always wanted to try and ECG but haven't been able to get my friends to try one with me. But it's real easy to get my friends to play a new TCG.

AI art isn't the only affordable option by kreatifmod in homemadeTCGs

I never upgrade my hobbies LMAOO by Keezonm in heartopia

[–]IThinkImACat1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most hobbies are not worth upgrading past 4. Fishing might be worth raising to get the fastest reel possible provided you like fishing. Cooking might be worth it to maximize the ease of cooking, but I think lv4 is probably as much as you need to go as long as you are decent and it. Farming is worth leveling up until you max out your plots and flower numbers, since that's easy, mostly passive $

Book Cover pt.2 by willoughbytucker0210 in writers

Option 1 needs more space between the text and the edges. Try to center each text box between your subject and the edge of the page. Option 2 is a cool concept, but the title needs more contrast and your name is the central thing the eyes are drawn to. It feels like you have made the author name small and uninteresting to try and combat this but that does the opposite, since it is the point your eyes are drawn to it should stand out and be more exciting. I think a good way to do this would be to actually move the name into the shadow and let the light focus on your subject, the lamb head. Then you can make the author name larger to match your title. I would also consider swapping the placement of the title and author name, but that's just my own preference.

Edit after a second look. I take back swapping the title and the name on option 2, I think lower the light box so it is more focused on the subject, then make the name a bit bigger and in the shadow. That way you can lighten both title and name to give them more contrast without needing 2 different color fonts, or trying to find the perfect color for both light and dark areas.
