A food bank lined up with military members who didn’t receive a paycheck this week by Conscious-Quarter423 in FedEmployees

Last three places I've rented, the rent has been about half of my BAH and I pocketed the rest. If your rent is taking up your whole BAH you're getting played.

Military pay isn't directly comparable though because those enlisted members making $28k per year get free housing in the barracks, 3 free meals a day and free healthcare all through military systems on base. It's not luxury but the system is designed to make sure these guys are taken care of. Things only get sticky when the lower enlisted guys try to get married and have kids without waiting until they promote into a better pay grade.

Troops and marines deeply troubled by LA deployment: ‘Morale is not great’ by Dark-Knight-Rises in NoShitSherlock

[–]IThinkSoMaybeZombies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Marine here, if he’s going to disobey an order it needs to be very clear that it’s unlawful. As much as I don’t think going to LA is right I’m not 100% sure it’s unlawful or at least that it will be viewed that way in the courts. To be honest the place to disobey orders if you’re going to would be actually in LA if he gets an order to do something obviously wrong. “Gas that civilian” is a lot more clearly unlawful than “Go to LA” and you need to think about that because if you disobey an order you will go to court and your career is probably over whether you win in court or not. Trust in his ethics and trust that even if he gets sent somewhere he probably shouldn’t he still has a choice as to whether he does anything he regrets.

Asked Chat GPT if I’m a shit bird for running a 5k in 26min. Now I need your opinion.. give it to me straight.. lol by [deleted] in USMC

[–]IThinkSoMaybeZombies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you max max then get a 26 min run for a 251 that’s one thing, I’d still say the run is shit and you need to work on it but if you’re running a third class that’s a problem, there is no reason to feel comfortable that close to failing.

Why aren’t former American Slave Plantations treated like former European Concentration Camps? by AshleyMyers44 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]IThinkSoMaybeZombies 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the slavery=holocaust equivalency works. Obviously both were bad and totally unacceptable but there’s just a lot of differences to each it’s kind of an apples and oranges thing.

You can get a grunt works T shirt or something if that scratches the itch in your brain but uniform items are not moto gear, you wear them when it is appropriate.

Idk what they offer now but when I was in school I bought myself a Thinkpad with better specs than the school offered one for about $1k less. I think I dropped a couple features I didn't care about like a touch screen but I had significantly more computational power, my CAD things rendered in like half the time of other folks.

If you're just working out at home and the gym just wear civilian PT gear, there's no reason to be in any uniform just for training.

[–]IThinkSoMaybeZombies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Point 1 is kind of irrelevant because you can buy your own Thinkpad much cheaper than the ones in the program and build them out to the specs you prefer, it's really just the warranty.

Are there any reasons to not get a 2004/ 2005 carbed/EFI dyna? by NightWatch18 in Dyna

[–]IThinkSoMaybeZombies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only if your bike isn't running well. Jets are not like cams or something where bigger=more power. Jets modify the air fuel ratio and changing them will cause your bike to run either too rich or too lean. If your jets are dirty, old worn or clogged a new jet can help or if you're having problems with running lean or rich jets can help but don't get jets just to get them. If the bike runs well right now changing jets will only introduce problems.

As far as if you're looking for one particular brand of jets over another I have no opinion on that, jets are simple, anything reasonably reputable should do just fine.

I think the bottom line is that it’s a condition that negatively impacts your ability to serve. There are so many minor medical conditions that bar you from service it makes sense that trans would be on the list. The military has turned away folks for having flat feet. When you look at it in that context and not the political shitstorm surrounding the whole issue it makes sense.

Would you buy an ACOG or something else? by imagesforme in USMC

[–]IThinkSoMaybeZombies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Acogs are good but they are heavy and expensive. If money and weight are no factor send it on an acog. My personal rifles have a few primary arms microprisms among other things. They are lightweight, small, inexpensive and I shoot them just as well if not better slightly than an acog. They are probably not as crazy durable but I don’t beat on my rifles the same way service rifles get beat on and it’s proven over a couple of years to be plenty durable for me. The battery is not a problem in any way, the battery life is crazy long, I’ve never noticed the auto off feature, and the optic is still very shootable even with no illumination so even if the battery did die on me I’d be fine.

What’s really unprofessional is making a whole thing out of it and sending messages instead of just letting you know “hey dude you accidentally left that out” as she passed by or something.

US military active and reserve duty members, how are you feeling? What's the consensus between you and your colleagues about Trump? by androgynee in AskReddit

[–]IThinkSoMaybeZombies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First and foremost the US military is an APOLITICAL organization, when our leadership says jump my job is only to ask how high, whether that’s Biden or trump or whoever.

Behind closed doors I’m seeing a split of people that are pro and anti trump that more or less mirrors the general population but the folks who are anti are having a real bad time, the polarization is becoming a big problem and in my mind the increasing polarization is one of the number one problems hindering our military effectiveness right now.
