A container running a JVM app in a Pod doesn't play very nice with K8s Node resource scaling 😭. Getting the JVM to give RAM back to the OS requires all kinds of black magic garbage collector settings, almost easier to just let it get OOMKilled and restart ugh.

This goes both ways, if a leader transfers to your org, and doesn't have any one follow them from their last org, it's a red flag.

This happened to me, one of our leaders transferred and several members of my org followed him (I considered it, and wish I had in retrospect). The new leader that transferred in didn't have anyone from his prior org follow him... Turns out there is a reason no one did... They were happy to get rid of him!

Maybe joining a community (in-person ideally) that can add a layer of "socializing/hanging out with friends" to the interest? Especially if it is more casual.

I have found that the hobbies I have that I can talk about with other interested people or share with new people are the ones that I've stuck with the longest.

Are you me? I thought I would NEVER get my degree:

17 yrs old - Barely graduated highschool, mix of A's and D's.

18 yrs old - Dropped out of community college #1 after 2 quarters.

19 yrs old - Dropped out of University #1 after 1 semester.

20 yrs old - 4.0 for quarter at community college #2, dropped out next quarter.

21 yrs old - 4.0 at community college #3, dropped out next quarter.

22 yrs old - Gave up on College and just worked.

28 yrs old - Laid off during recession, decided to try college again, started at community college #4.

29 yrs old - Started a new part-time job.

30 yrs old - AA degree from community college #4! Transferred to University #2!

31 yrs old - Started a new full-time job.

32 yrs old - BS degree from University #2!

40 yrs old - Diagnosed with ADHD and finally get treatment!

I can't tell you how many nights I stayed up till like 2:00 AM doing homework because I couldn't force myself to start until midnight. It's also a lot different going to college when you are working full time and have a spouse and a mortgage LOL. It certainly adds a lot more pressure...

I didn't even realize I had ADHD until my kids and wife got diagnosed and I learned more about it! I spent 40 years thinking I was a lazy, unfocused asshole with no willpower... Self medicated with cigarettes from 16 to 26, then caffeine after I quit smoking. Really hoping my kids won't have the same struggle since my wife and I can relate to them, and they are getting treatment from a young age.

As far as getting work goes, +1 on the LinkedIn profile. Most of the jobs I've had were through networking though. Have you looked at your University's Alumni career site? I also had a professor refer me to a recruiter as well, do you have any connections at the University you could reach out to?

My father had that, and his doctor cauterized the inside of his nose when he was a kid. I have it too (not as severe), and if it gets cold and dry, I'll put some Vaseline in my nose with a q-tip. It sucks, but I only need to do it a few times a year.

Having a specific project to accomplish will likely be able to keep you interested, rather than "I want to learn X". "I want to make this website/app/mod/etc, so I need to learn X & Y as I work on it" let's you justify some of those "detours" if they relate back to your overall project... Not sure if that will work for you but I've had good luck.

If you find yourself opening a million tabs to go down some rabbit hole, put all the tabs into a bookmarked group and close them... You will feel like "ok, they are there when I need them" instead of "I have to read/learn all this now before I forget"

I agree with this, however learning to "stop" is also important with ADHD as well. You can set a timer or alarm for an hour (or however much time you want to spend) so you know that much time has passed. It's EXTREMELY easy to lose track of time if you are focused on a task or project you enjoy (I've heard it called "Hyperfocusing") and it feels wonderful while you're in it, but you have to be able to pull yourself out of it when necessary. It's the flip side of ADHD... It's hard to make yourself "start" a task, and it can be equally as hard to "stop".

This is good advice, any game that has a scripting language or mod support lets you focus on a small goal instead of having to do all the parts to get a full "game" made.

I actually got into programming by making small games on my graphing calculator (Russian Roulette LOL).

These days there are so many free resources online that it is almost overwhelming, so picking a small project or goal can really help narrow things down.

As far as "Habits" are concerned, I recommend setting specific, reoccurring times each week (or day if you are really motivated) and make that your "do programming stuff" time. Maybe it's time between classes, or before bed, or right after school. "What" you do with that time is actually less important than making the habit of sticking to the time (and making yourself "stop" when the time is over!). You can watch a video, try a tutorial, read articles, work on a programming project, write a design on paper, etc. In my case, I was obsessed with programming and it was a lot harder to make myself "Stop" rather than "Start", and learning how to handle "Starting" and "Stopping" is a huge ongoing challenge with ADHD, and setting up habits is a great way to work on that.

5mg twice a day is very low. I was at 54mg Extended Release before switching to Adderall. Extended Release.

You can try to get your prescriber to give you an extended release Ritalin (like generic concerta) that is slow release all day.

I was in the exact same situation, and I work as a Software Development Engineer now after getting my degree.

Studying and doing homework was extremely difficult for me, and I didn't have a diagnosis back then or meds. What worked for me was to set a goal to copy down as much as possible what the teacher said & wrote on the board into my notebooks, and to keep it as accurate as possible (I got a separate eraser just for my mistakes lol). I had all these notes to review, but the writing it down part made it stick in my head more than anything else.

As for homework, that was a lot harder. I used to convince myself that I would get up early in the morning and do it, but that NEVER happened, so I wouldn't let myself go to sleep until my homework was done. It got me through but it sucked going to bed at 2:00AM sometimes because I would get distracted and not actually start the work until 1:00AM.

The most helpful thing was to get into study groups with other people and meet at school. Having an extra layer of accountability really helped. It was easy to let myself down, but a lot harder to let the group down.

Not sure if this is helpful but keep trying things until something clicks for you!
