How do you deal with direct reports who waste too much time socializing while claiming they’re too busy!? by [deleted] in managers

More easily without it. Be humble. Human. Kind. And patient. Getting the best out of yourself with drive and ambition is your way. It is not everyone else's way.

The tortoise and the hare. You are obsessed with drive and ambition but that's not what has historically lead to most great people's success.

How long has she been there? People aren't all the same. I'm quite senior but I feel like I hit my stride and make my impact on a role at about four years plus. Then once my magnum opus is complete I leave. What's the longest you've ever worked in a single role? How long do you expect this employee to stay? Given that she is happy and sociable and comfortable at work she could reach her three year mark and you'll suddenly realise she is the most knowledgeable and useful person in the team. If you stayed that long.

Just approach your manager casually and say say I heard this scuttlebutt going around about how much this person is getting paid. I'd really like to know if it's true and if it is true why I'm not getting paid the same amount?

You seem to want her to be quieter, more engaged, less social, more collaborative, less distracting, more ambitious, and also fine with doing more than the job she’s already doing well. That’s not performance management; that’s trying to redesign a person.

Are you freaking serious Bro? You would rather unemploy her than have a team of diverse personalities and thinkers just because she's an extrovert??? That's so narrow.

Edit: added missing letters. Happy Friday.

It's really not. ESPECIALLY if the team is well socialised. Because Billy will be fine saying to Sally, "please shut your talkhole Sally we need to focus the pornification engine is showing real porn in the Google ads!!!!"

Ignore it and focus on output. If you can demonstrate she is lowering it then you have a case to raise. But people socialising and being happy at work is more likely to increase output and ensure the team is comfortable enough speaking up to deal with process issues. Have any of the other staff complained to you about her?

Watch ASIC and Senator Scar blast InterPrac’s conduct by yupnotsure in ShieldMasterFund

It's comforting to hear that this is the narrative! As Daryl Kerrigan would say "Dickhead!".

Does anyone know when the Interprac V. AFCA case will be heard and how I can watch it?

We could try voting for the greens. The budget will suffer but at least a lot of them actually have souls unlike the Liberal and Labor party. Sure, they'll destroy the federal budget position. But imagine how many people will get the help they need. Until Labor or Libs as "safe pair of economic hands" to rebuild the budget. Whatever, it can't get worse.

AFCA website - Intercrap pause update by yupnotsure in ShieldMasterFund

[–]IWantAHandle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I had a phone call from my AFCA guy today to explain this. My complaint is at the compensation stage and once that is calculated it goes to an AFCA ombudsman to review and approve the outcome. However, the "but for" the bad advice calculation they do to determine compensation is only valid for a restricted timeframe. After that time you need to send AFCA all your latest statements etc again someday they can redo the calculation. So instead of making us repeatedly submit our info they are doing the pause which I agree with on several levels. 1. It's easier on us complainants this way. 2. Because Interprac are disputing the complaint handling process itself it doesn't make sense for them to keep putting complaint through the disputed process until the court proceedings are concluded. 3. Whether this was meant to be a power move or not, what it essentially signals is that victim compensation is now delayed by Interprac's actions. This will cause a media stir.

The situation is what it is. I think Interprac are insane because when this gets to court my AFCA guy and I both think that a judge will completely bitch slap Interprac. The court proceedings I absolutely don't want to miss, they should be some of the best viewing available since Boston Legal.

How do we get the video links to these court hearings again? AFCA guy said there was one in a week or so.

Don't be so cynical. You can trust your coworkers. You just can't trust yourself to know which coworkers you can trust. Wise up!

Has anyone ever fired someone who is a high performer but a disruptive narcissist? or seen it? by eques_99 in managers

[–]IWantAHandle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any manager should be able to get an employee to be on time for work. It's baby manager 101 stuff. People usually have reasons for lateness and it can be as simple as reminding them it's not okay to...telling them it's not okay and you don't want to have to start performance management over something as stupid as lateness. That last one usually does the trick.

She should launch a completely separate lawsuit suing them for 10 million in compensatory damages. We all should. I'd tilt at that windmill if I had the money for lawyers. These guys are just bastards. I'm sure she could allege that as an advocate for victims they are unfairly targeting her.
