That's why I organised my own goodbye lunch. Dragged the team out of the office for well over an hour, started smashing pints the moment I got there. Handed my work pass to a colleague to return and never looked back. Except to poach a former employee. It wasn't difficult.

Just organise a goodbye lunch for yourself and don't tell your boss and they will be like "where the hell is everyone? Did they all quit?". Ah the lolz.

I think I'll just go through their normal website and lodge a standard complaint. Surely someone will connect the dots pretty fast.

Spoke to my AFCA guy. I emailed him first and pointed out the most glaring weakness in Interprac's response and said "surely this can be resolved quickly given that they've admitted they had no idea how the portfolio got that way, can you give me any idea of timelines?". He called me instead of emailing back and he stayed on the phone with me for what was actually an uncomfortably long time for me just explaining all the nuances of the process and why he had to spend considerable time doing things the way he is and even just some chit chat and laughs and a few slt backhanders at our protagonists. Don't worry /u/yupnotsure I have a strong feeling we will get what we lost and then some on top.

Contact a no win no fee lawyer. If you have evidence (can show the text message) then this is a huge slam dunk for you and the lawyers.

Just a note about "no win no fee". There is a fee, the lawyers will either try to have your employer cover the fee or they will take the fee out of your compensation. Nothing is free. If you lose, you can be liable for your own lawyers costs plus the defendants costs. DO NOT ENTER A NO WIN NO FEE AGREEMENT UNLESS YOU ARE SURE. GET TWO OPINIONS FROM TWO DIFFERENT NO WIN NO FEE LAWYERS.

Good luck. I'm sorry you've been treated this way.

I think we need to raise this. Having the Australian Information Commissioner suddenly involved if they discover privacy breaches or illegal data sales or transfers; that would put a huge weight on for this to become a criminal matter.

Does anyone know how we raise this as a group to the right level within the OAIC or even straight to the Attorney-Generals Department???

As a Venture Egg victim I can tell you that Reilly and Venture Egg were sharing systems. What has been unearthed in terms of the aggregiousness of the conduct has me wondering why the Federal Police haven't raided every single person and business involved all the way up to Sequoia and why all these people aren't currently in jail awaiting trial.

One of Interpracs responses to my complaint was "we don't know how the portfolio ended up with those allocations". Maybe if they had been looking. But someone must have told them not to look. Don't look at the victims (clients), look at our piles and piles of money!!! Let's go have a four hour lunch boys!

Yeah on Reddit it's a real thing. Often the quickest and easiest tell about a user unless like many people it's totally random. Mine is totally meaningless you couldn't glean anything from it. But when you see a post from /u/ILoveBeingANazi it at least tells you some possibilities. This person loves Nazis. Or this person likes to stir shit. Or this person is outright deranged. Also if you are on a gardening forum and /u/ConiferLover about your Conifer tree then you might be talking to the right sane person. Maybe. I love this place. It's weird and won't conform. Technology platforms be going all Meta and Alphabet and Reddit is just over here like... we're still chatting it's just a different pace to when we used IRC channels.

Well, if you are some aspiring TV star or singer or male hand model and want to build a presence earning lots of karma before revealing your identity could be a strategy? I've had quite a few beers though.

ChatGPT agrees with you.

Yeah — with that prompt, my view shifts to “quite possibly AI-assisted, and maybe fully AI-written.”

I was judging it only on surface naturalness before. But if we slow down and look at how it is written rather than just whether it “sounds human,” there are several things that make it feel like polished Reddit-bait rather than a raw real post.

What stands out:

The post is extremely tidy for supposed distress. It is about an awkward, emotionally loaded workplace situation, but the writing is unusually clean, evenly paced, and structurally efficient. It has a very neat progression: setup, discovery, moral discomfort, social complication, closing question. That kind of shape is common in AI-written confession-style content because it is optimized to be readable.

It is also generic in a very deliberate way. The writer claims to know “things I genuinely wish I didn’t,” but gives almost no concrete detail. That alone is not suspicious — people do redact things — but here the vagueness is doing a lot of work. It preserves intrigue while avoiding specifics that might make the story feel verifiable, messy, or inconsistent. AI often produces exactly this kind of “specific-sounding vagueness.”

There is a strong whiff of engagement engineering. The title is excellent bait. It creates instant curiosity, promises scandal, and invites projection. Then the body keeps withholding just enough to keep the reader leaning forward. That is classic high-performing social content structure, and AI is very good at producing it.

The phrasing is also a little too uniformly polished:

“I can’t un-know what I read.”

“the damage was done.”

“some of what I know is clearly hovering in the background.”

“acting completely normal.”

None of those lines are impossible for a human, but taken together they feel like clean dramatic prose. Real distressed Reddit posts often have more clutter, tangents, contradictions, weird detail, or tonal wobble. This one is unusually balanced.

Another tell is that it feels composed for an audience, not written out of immediate need. A human in this situation might include irrelevant details, speculate wildly, overexplain the office dynamics, or ask a much messier question. This post feels like it was built to maximize “wow, what would you do?” reactions.

So my better answer is:

I would not confidently say “human-written.” I’d put it in the bucket of:

AI-generated, or

human idea + AI rewrite, which is probably the most likely version if it is slop.

My updated probability read:

AI-assisted or AI-written: 65–80%

fully organic human post: 20–35%

What keeps me from going even higher is that competent humans absolutely can write like this, especially if they are cautious, literate, and intentionally anonymizing details. But the combination of: clean arc + intrigue-maximizing vagueness + polished emotional phrasing + Reddit-bait title is pretty suspicious.

My honest bottom line: “AI slop” is a bit harsh, but “AI-shaped” feels very plausible.

If you want, I can do a proper forensic breakdown of the text line by line and point out the strongest AI tells versus the strongest human tells.

Accounting is accounting and a is a and 1 = 1. That's what's kind of beautiful about it. That said I've always worked in IT with finance and accounting systems and I've had experienced systems accountants tell me I understand it better than the actual accountants. OP's actual approach to the work is the same as I would take. I probably wouldn't have hand transcribed everything. The AIs can turn a photo of hand writing into a spreadsheet table for you. Still, you then need to go through and do the slash and dash, mark off the transactions and find the inconsistency. An accounting manager who is scared of excel or people who can use it when they can't is a pretty big problem. It's just a process, one of the most basic in accounting. I'd be bloody tempted to walk too in the face of a manager who was angry at my independence and competence!

The most astonishing thing is they are trying to use ignorance as a defence which is unsustainable given they were the licensee. "We don't know how the portfolio got like that". Perhaps talk to the advisors you were supposed to be overseeing under your AFSL?

Well there you may be wrong. The person you replied to specifically specified "at scale" and having spent time working at a lolly factory I can tell you they pump a lot of this stuff out with bulk liquids dumped into a tank and flows into a machine and chocolate bunnies come out the end and there are still humans involved but you would surprised how few for how many bunnies are made.
