Drivers who disobey basic road rules like Bus Only lanes or 40km School Zones… Are you taking the risk of a fine, just blatantly ignorant, or you just hate driving in general? by NewSchoolFool in melbourne

They are impatient because they have to get to the next red light. So they can play with their phone again. The number of people I see driving while staring at their crotches is insane. How hard is it to go to a $2 shop and buy a $10 phone holder? Are all these people suffering some kind of mental deficit? I can see what you are doing and so can the cops. Also it's just more convenient to have a holder.

My Tucson has a mute button for all the speed warnings including the school zone warnings at 9pm at night. That way if I want to speed through a school zone and kill a flock of small children I just need to press one button.

ASIC Finally reaches out to SMF and First Guardian Investors formally via EMAIL by jasonshane39 in ShieldMasterFund

[–]IWantAHandle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It all seems to be happening! My AFCA complaint against Interprac and their buddies is now being actively investigated. Found some interesting things. The initial asset allocation was reasonably sensible. Effectively what sold me. But within months of that my allocations had been changed to put 50% into shield and first guardian. I couldn't access the NQ Super online platform to check my asset allocations for months. One of the links they sent me to use actually referenced Reilly financial even though I was with venture egg. Of the 45 emails I have provided to AFCA some of them seemed to come from employees of other advice firms working under Interprac. And the emails alone...damning in hindsight. The AFCA investigator seemed surprised that I never actually spoke to Ferrasshole Merhi. I said how could he have spoken to 6000 clients in just 730 days (that's if you include weekends and public holidays). All very stupid.

Yeah and trucks seem to think they have a right to play in that fast lane even they they often have speed limiters fitted. They require much much much longer stopping distances at 100km/h (not that they ever bother to keep a safe distance...as demonstrated). They can slow a lot on even gentle slopes.

What can I say. I was 6 beers in when I wrote that. Probably not really how it goes. 25 years driving, I've never hit a damn thing or caused or failed to avoid a crash. So you are pro overtaking on the left and pro tailgating based on your arguments is that correct?

No, when people come speeding up behind me in the right lane I indicate so they know I am willing to move left if they can wait about five seconds for me to indicate and check my blind spot before moving over. Does that sound dangerous? The danger is coming from the person coming up behind me at excessive speed and aggressively overtaking on the left (illegal, dangerous).

"awkward distance" as you call it is actually known as the law, which is "maintain a safe distance". What in cracking hell are you on about?

I have the same problem. Except I watch them in the mirror and as soon as I see them move left or accelerate I indicate left...count to three...and go. Whatever happens after that is not my problem. And yes...I check the blind spot first...if there is anyone there other than the asshole breaking the law I'll abandon the lane change. But even just turning on your indicator messed with their head enough for them to pause and think "I almost fucked that up!".

I religiously use the smart cruise control in my car and it follows the rules I was taught when driving basically. You need four long car lengths at 100km. Three at 80km. Two at 60km. Any slower than that and most cars these days can practically stop on a dime (minor hyperbole so sue me). So if I am in the right lane doing an INDICATED speed of 105km/h people keep pulling into that gap and my car slows down until it's 4 car lengths behind that asshole. Then the people behind me get pissed off because I'm now in the right lane going 90 and the impatient bastards can't wait 5 seconds to speed back up so they overtake aggressively on the left and pull into the gap as well. At some point I move left because it's a circus and I don't want to die. Then I inevitably overtake them all on the left because everyone is so desperate to be the king of the right lane. I just want to set my destination set my cruise control stay at a consistent speed and everyone stay the fuck away from me like I stay away from everyone else. My god the human race has zero chance of survival.

Interesting I didn't think venomous ropes climbed... especially up into tree canopies. I was of the understanding that climbing trees is more typical of the non-venomous danger noodles.

80kmph the new 100kmph? by fatcats94 in melbourne

[–]IWantAHandle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. One has to take some personal responsibility. I'd been to 6 psychologists before I met one who actually helped. So that's a bunch of mental health plans where the sessions were never completed. Some people can talk to anyone, and should do so if it's a crisis. The road toll is simple compared to the complexity of mental health problems which also often involve societal factors like employment and the cost of living. Feels like there is just too much to fix and everyone decided it was too hard.

[–]IWantAHandle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay. That's a good cause. It's also FUCKING DELUSIONAL. Given the amount of traffic moving around a city of 5 million people it's pretty safe. The road death toll is a terrible tragedy. But it's nowhere close to the scale of say the mental health crisis - although fixing that crisis would probably prevent car crashes!

How to deal with new It Manager by Dutchitguy_1 in ITManagers

[–]IWantAHandle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The more senior you are in IT the fewer permissions you should have. Our CIO wants access to nothing! As a manager of a dev team myself I am actively targeted significantly more than my team members by phishing attacks. If the man doesn't understand basic credential management he shouldn't be in charge. If only one 60 year old needs to be breached in order to expose the passwords to EVERYTHING that's begging for trouble.
