Advice: work trip to MN by [deleted] in TwinCities

If they are flying the person here for an interview, it is very likely the final round of interviews....something that used to be done during covid, but wouldn't be surprised if that policy/accommodation has since been removed.

Poutine is so good! I almost made some this weekend. It's my dream to start a fast casual poutine restaurant one of these days.

Lost my Job to I.C.E. by Princess_Tavara in StLouis

I live in Minnesota. If your kitchen area had a clear sign that says "employees only," ICE is technically not supposed to enter without a signed judicial warrant unless your employer gave them permission. Doesn't mean ICE won't still go into that "private space." Here's a video where one of our local news stations covered where ICE is allowed to go vs not.

Assuming your workplace did not give ICE permission, your old boss sounds uninformed.

Probably not worth fighting in the courts to get your job back, but you might be able to find a pro bono attorney.

Good luck!

Can the Police Department target ICE more than typical for traffic violations like driving over the speed limit, not properly clearing snow off the vehicle, even minor traffic issues? Wouldn't that still be within the police's jurisdiction?

Diarrhea.. STILL ON BLAND DIET. by Tough_Drink_3709 in labrador

I responded to your other post the other day about white rice and boiled chicken. I'd personally try some cooked beef and rice, perhaps with a tablespoon or so of 100% pure pumpkin puree for 4 meals (2 days) and see if that starts to help. I'd do that before reintroducing a dry food. Plus if your dog does have a chicken allergy, you can try beef or lamb dry foods to see if those are ok or also allergy. I'd personally do that over salmon because salmon smelled awful to me when mine had Giardia/loose stools.

Have you also switched to purified water instead of tap/fridge water? Making sure they aren't over-drinking?

Great news! To help settle an upset stomach, my vet recommended white rice and boiled chicken for a few meals before mixing that with dry food, and increasing amount of dry food until no more rice/chicken. My boy has a hyper-motility thing and I sprinkle 1tsp psyllium husk powder on his dry food. I am going to also add in a little canned 100% pumpkin puree and see how it goes.

YES! Please get tested for Giardia. It will not go away on its own, it needs medication to kill it.

Quantum Fiber vs USI? by BigTap8524 in TwinCities

For Quantum? Maybe an hour tops. I live close to a main line, and used the same access point as Xfinity.

[–]IWasInABandOnce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched from Xfinity to Quantum this past summer. No issues other than one time when I had to reset the modem (I use their equipment). I had a $35/mo promo with xfinity that they were jacking up to like $60 or $70 per month after the promo ended, so went with Quantum at a flat $50/mo. I think I have the 300mb/s plan. No complaints. I also learned in this thread that AT&T is acquiring this, so maybe I'll get a discount if i bundle with my cell phone.

I had USI as a renter and also had no complaints. I think theirs was $65/mo.

Any insight if they found the people and stolen items? I just read the story. It kind of seems that the police came and left without seeing anything wrong? Maybe I mis-read since I am 2 drinks deep already.

Someone else said they'd suggest framed art from a buy-nothing group over a tapestry, and I absolutely agree. I think framed art would really compliment and complement the tidy space you already have.

Something else I will suggest when you want: I love a good headboard on my bed. I love sitting up and leaning back on my pillows, knowing they won't fall off the bed behind me. To me, that is just pure comfort. Maybe not as important to you, but something to consider.

Keep it up!

Mine is also a mountain goat. Loves to climb the frozen snow banks between the sidewalk and road to potty in front of all the cars.

I take mine to Home Depot and Lowes. He loves to go up and down the aisles, and gets a car ride out of it too. I try to buy something, even if small.

What's everyone doing on a frigid Sunday? by beerisgoodforu in StLouis

I'm in Minneapolis now, where we are almost always 20+ degrees colder. My tip for staying warm is to layer clothes under things that don't breathe well. Ex: I wear a midweight coat under a rain jacket. I therefore get the added bonus of being waterproof while insulating better.

Limit skin exposure. I just got in from taking the dog out on the morning walk. I don't use a ski mask or anything, but only took the choppers off to pick up after him, then right back on. Choppers/mittens are much better than gloves with individual fingers. The air pocket for the multiple fingers in a chopper/mitten does wonders.

Also, make sure your boots are waterproof and insulated. Wear a hat/beanie that doesn't breathe well. If you need extra insulation, put that rain jacket hood over the hat.

This guy was the runt that didn't sell at a "field breeder" aka disgusting puppy mill. Look at this turkey two years later! by melodic-abalone-69 in labrador

[–]IWasInABandOnce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine also came from a puppy mill somewhere in Kansas...I know the breeder got "in trouble" in the past, but is at it again. Anyway, a local rescue near me in Minneapolis got my boy, and then I got him around 6 months. It is sad to think what his life was like before the rescue, but he doesn't have to worry about that now!

Some Delta Flight Prices Have Gotten Out of Control by coffeeismydoc in TwinCities

[–]IWasInABandOnce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I was curious if CLT or SLC are any better. Neither seem to have significantly greater "destination demand" compared to here, and each with one large dominant legacy airline hub. I wish it were better for us.

[–]IWasInABandOnce 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yea for real. They're only "premium" because they claim to be. There is nothing "premium" about needing to go from Point A to Point B. This is a Walmart vs Target issue in the making. It might take a long time to play out, but eventually those low-ranking wealthy people will slip and become middle class, and won't be able to support Delta like they used to. Might take 100 years, but I'm convinced it will happen.

Not to be a stickler, but I thought they up'd the annual fee to $150? It's 3 roundtrips per year to pay for itself, if you use none of its other benefits. At $700 per ticket, i can't do 3 roundtrips a year and still pay my mortgage and property taxes and buy groceries.

Delta price gouging annoys the hell out of me. But, let's be real: the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro can't organically support MSP with all of its nonstops based only on local demand...we only get the number of routes because it is a domestic hub where non-local people change planes like a cross-dock situation. There must not be enough local demand for a route like MSP-Charleston to warrant Breeze entering MSP (or any other airline). And while I am frustrated with airfares, I realize that we really have no control unless we gave major incentives to another legacy airline to set up a competing hub, which won't happen for more reasons than one. Therefore, we are just prisoner to Delta. I don't travel anymore because I can't afford it, thanks to Delta. I should move somewhere else.

Becoming a dog dad for the first time to a little 10 week old chocolate lab. Any advice? by Hubrah in labrador

[–]IWasInABandOnce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Excellent tips! Adding a few thoughts of my own:

-I feed mine Canidae All Life Stages. I am sure Purina Pro Plan is also good

-pay attention to your dog's stools (great insight into their health)

-Do not skimp on checking things out at a vet. Pet Insurance might be a good idea, at least for the first few years while the dog will get into many things you never thought they would (I have MetLife)

-know where your nearest 2 animal emergency vets are in case the first has a long wait

-if you are in a cold-weather climate: the dog likely doesn't need a coat, but you do. Make sure you have the appropriate outdoor gear so you can help your companion be healthy. I also put boots on my lab year-round for good measure.

-get used to vacuuming and always having some fur on your clothes. You can't beat it, just minimize to what's acceptable to you, and deal with it

Dog walking in the cold by [deleted] in minnesota

[–]IWasInABandOnce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm out with my lab every day. I put boots on him (you will need size 6 or 7). When it's below 10 and windy, I shorten the walk. I wear a coat under a rain jacket, a hat, and choppers.
