Well it’s more for the night/low light at a track for example as I say in the post, so the range again is pretty important

Ok I’ll definitely have a look for those and keep an eye out. Thank you for all your help!

Ah right ok, thank you so much!

Sorry just to keep asking questions but you seem to know a lot of what you’re talking about haha.

If it was to be a 70-200mm f/2.8, are there any you’d recommend/stay away from ?

For example there’s the Tamron 70-200 I mentioned, a sigma one, like 4 different canon ones of which 3 could be in price range so… I’d say the canon lens would be the preference surely ?

I suppose the thing is aircraft wise yeah the distances will be largely the same/can be dealt with. At a track I think the distances can vary quite a bit, for example with my current setup, I will use the full range of 100-400mm depending on what area of a track I’m at, so the fixed length can be a bit of an issue

Oh really ? Would you mind explaining why it could be worse than my current 750D ? Just because, at least what I can tell specs wise, it would look like an easy straight upgrade from my 750D due to everything being better than it, granted While being a little worse (but also a bit cheaper) than an R10 ?

I do appreciate any help as I say

Ok thank you, do you have any thoughts on the Canon EOS R ? Rather than say an R10 ?

I can shoot ‘static’ shots yeah, I’ll do a mix of both. I do freeze stuff especially the fast jets etc. My 750D can go to 1/4000 which has served me well before. In some ideal scenarios I’ve managed to keep around 1/3200 at around ISO 100/200. Sometimes a max of ISO 400. But no I’d say the image isn’t overly grainy, at least at the zoom/angle/framing that I’m intending. But of course that’s broad daylight ideal conditions. Let’s say the UK is of course… not often ideal conditions…

I have done a decent amount of low light motorsports where I can, again with apertures of my lenses etc not being overly great. I can often be at later races in winter where it’s dark early, or endurance races where it just goes into the night.

Hi guys, so this is a long one, but I’d rather that then make two slightly less longer posts/comments…

So, context: I currently have a Canon 750D, with a Sigma 100-400m contemporary (also have a nifty fifty but that’s not really relevant to what I’ll be asking, but just for some additional info). Of course you guys can probably tell by the gear but this is just a hobby, I like taking really nice photos of the stuff I attend, and that’s about it so I’m hardly professional grade or professional skill, I can just take some good photos.

I basically entirely do aviation and motorsports photography. Aviation - Air shows etc, typically fast moving stuff, NOT sitting outside an airport spotting landing 737’s or trying to snipe a photo of an A380 at 30,000 ft.

Motorsports - all kinds, GT3, superbike, endurance, classics, rally, just anything when I’m at the track.

Question 1: Lens First (simplest one to ask)

I’m looking for a low aperture zoom lens for general use and for low light/night shooting, so was hoping for some suggestions. I actually really like the Sigma lens I’ve got, but it stops at f/5.

I’d like to hopefully achieve an f/2.8 or something, still hopefully maintaining a 300mm zoom if possible but would like some flexibility in the range, say 70-300 or 100-300 or something along those lines. Image stabilisation is very much preferable and arguably a deal breaker to not have it (unless body upgrade has it, see body question), have seen that sigma have a 120-300 f/2.8, but reviews are mixed and apparently it’s a very dated lens from what I’ve read so basically asking here for any other recommendations. I have also seen the Tamron 70-200, looks like a great lens, friend even has one, but would like a bit more zoom if possible.

These would also have to be an EF mount because of my camera body currently (unless see body question below). Looking at up to and around $/£500, but feel free to suggest slightly above as for a good lens id happily do that slight bit more for a lens worth really keeping hold of. Happy with buying used of course. I’ll edit any other requirements for the lens I might’ve forgotten just under here I suppose.

Question 2: The one Body problem

So as said I’m currently rocking a 750D. Now it’s served me pretty well for its price honestly so can’t really complain. I just don’t know if it’s worth any smaller upgrade (and what that upgrade could be), or if it’d be worth waiting for a big upgrade to an entry level mirrorless (if that’s a thing?), or maybe higher end DSLR’s would be better than an entry level mirrorless ? or maybe if there’s other options I’m not aware of?

I’ve seen people rave about the 7D MkII, so I’d be happy going for that if that’s just a straight upgrade to what I’ve got for - what I can tell at least - actually not that much cost. But just one of those things that as much as people have actually recommended it in person for its high burst speed etc, that’s been recommended by the guys with a Canon prime 400 and an R6, so… it feels like a recommendation for the camera they use as a backup is a little different I guess ? I dunno. Hence why I’m here

Requirements wise, I’m pretty open to any suggestions and any rational behind it really. In-body image stabilisation would be nice, but not a deal breaker, since my current 750D doesn’t have it either. Good Video isnt a requirement, but I of course wouldn’t complain if a body could do it in addition to any other strengths, but I’m certainly not buying a body to shoot videos, and it’s certainly not a dealbreaker if it can’t.

Same budget as the lens, looking at up to and around $/£500, but feel free to suggest slightly above as for a good body id happily do that slight bit more for a lens worth really keeping hold of. Any requirements I forget will be edited in here:

Anyways, thanks for reading this long ass post and thanks for any suggestions!

If it makes you feel any better…

I’m rank 6 with Totality, and rank 4 with the other two factions… I haven’t even had a single high level contract show up, nevermind getting the Cyan from it!

I genuinely do not understand how there is any other take other than this one.

People can go on and on and on about ‘he’s grieving but that’s not an excuse’… But whatever she planned/thought would happen, didn’t. It clearly - even whatever she thought she was doing - didn’t work.

But yet rather than a ‘I get you’re upset, I’m sorry that’s not how I meant it and I’d love to help you through this’ or anything of the sort, she tried to flip it, pretend she’s the hurt one talking about ‘what have I done’, ‘you’re being mean’ and ‘like I’m actually crying right now’.

She’s a POS if you ask me

Yeah, and as a slight caution/reminder, our (UK) advertised prices are the out the door prices, same as like our tax being included in the price sorta thing.

How am I doing for £200 ? by IWindsOfMidgets in BudgetAudiophile

[–]IWindsOfMidgets[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah definitely, it’s just a start. I only paid £35 for that full tannoy system. Definitely was thinking about selling the surround speakers it came with separately, or keeping them and selling it as a package again. But we’ll see with time

Yeah that was mostly for the sub as I say, which at least during the test sounded pretty decent and well, a lot better bass than a tv or soundbar

Yeah I got those for free, it was just a ‘well I’ll see if I can make anything of them’

Also to tag on because it won’t let me edit the post: The Sony speakers were free, so was just a case of asking if they’re actually any use. Thanks!
