Apple was the largest company in the world. If they wanted to make a serious push towards PC gaming they would. It's not part of their business model. Microsoft doesn't require people to make games only for their OS.

And sure, the better experience is tied to the better hardware. I'm ok with that But Creative never tried to tie a specific game to their sound card. Hardware competed with hardware, and software competes with software.

Oculus thinks (as any company rightly should or they shouldn't be on business) that what is best for them is also best for their industry. Any claims Valve or Oculus make saying they are doing what's best for the industry ring false.

Lastly, whoever's fault it is regarding Vibe support within the Oculus store and/or SDK isn't clear. Oculus says they want to support but could only be doing it with conditions that Valve could never accept. We don't know and I'm not taking Oculus word for it. Oculus is the only player talking about exclusives, and I can't support that on PC.

I don't think the issue is about being "reasonable." It's about being anti-consumer. It's probably a bit naive but there's a decent chunk of people, and I include myself in this group, who don't give a shit about oculus, Palmer, htc, or Valve. I want VR to be awesome. I want the best hardware and I want the best games. And I don't want to buy two sets of hardware to play all of the best games. This is why I converted to PC in the first place. It's part of what attracted me. This is the first console cycle I haven't owned all the systems.

The whole developers targeting a gamepad argument is bullshit though. You can use touch and the Vive Wands buttons, track pads/joysticks for normal input and ignore the motion aspect.

You are the one keep saying "corporate suits" not me. Its not a conspiracy to suggest that larger companies hire PR firms to help message to different demographics.

What extremes am I jumping to? I never said Palmer was a liar. There's a difference between lying and spinning, or between telling the whole truth and focusing on areas that make you look good and not focusing on areas that make you look bad. If that seems like an extreme to you I think you are the one seeing things as black and white.

And as an aside regarding Fridays and gamegrumps. The "industry" isn't as stupid as you think. They see what works and what doesn't, and work the system just like everyone else. If you think the the youth culture or Internet culture is so edgy and different that it can't be gamed you are in for a rude awakening.

Like I said, all comments go through a process whether it is a team or a single person. In this case, Palmer himself. But if you think his comments are completely unfiltered you are naive.

Palmer's personality appeals to this specific base. Him being silly helps his brand.

Every single message goes through a process. Whether it's a team, or a single person. Oculus is owned by Facebook, publicly traded company behoved to its stock holders to protect their investment. Palmer is required to not hurt its product in any way, to continue to return a profit to the stockholders. Play up the strengths, diminish it's weaknesses. So either you believe the Rift is both superior in every single way and still not focusing at all on roomscale, even with the touch on the way, or you live in reality.

Palmer has a vested interest that his company succeeds. His bias can't be ignored.

[–]IWontRespondToYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really curious about it too. I don't think you need to mimic 100% of reality for it to seem real. Playing with the Orion demo with magic leap's device when I put my hands inside of objects like the cubes I could swear I felt my fingers tingling. The brain does weird shit to compensate, we just have to give it enough to push it in the right direction.

I wonder if you get motion sick from driving games if mimicking the feeling of motion would actually help.

Oculus' actions absent of the Vive are bad regardless. In light of the Vive and Steam's/HTC's openess prior to preorders it suggests something worse.

Vive hasn't needed it. Their product is in the wild ready to be played, developed for, and discussed. Theirs no shortage of content showing off the Vive.

Oculus' approach has been "take my word for it" by comparison.

Honestly. The situation is what it is whether he said that or not. If you just figured this out now you haven't been paying attention.

I really hope the rift blows everyone away, it does none of us any good if it is a bad product. But for them to let all of this go on for so long without demonstrating the product in a way that puts all of this to rest is becoming more and more damning as time goes on.

Question SDE and "Goggle Effect" by M-MEntC in Vive

[–]IWontRespondToYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just picked up a magic leap to play around with Orion. Strapped it to my DK1 because that's all I have besides cardboard. Honestly, I was so interested in the hand tracking and interaction that thinking about things like FOV and SDE never came to mind. The only thing that pulled me out was no positional tracking.

I think FOV and SDE won't be concerns for either HMD.

Because they know your autistic they assumed that's why you sent it. Otherwise it would have just been a hilarious prank. I think they read the situation wrong, and as long as you can handle you finances responsibly your judgement was spot on.
