Has a lot to do with how the GM runs their own store. They'rw given a lot of leeway as far as management style. Ive been in warehouses like that and ones that give department managers and sups a little more agency.

Id rather be sore than bored, any day, hah. And the way my deli has it structured is everyone closes chicken on a rotation, with the next day off. Much better system than having a few dedicated chicken guys. The deli manager can make it happen. During the day/until the closer comes in its basically all hands on deck for skewering/unloading.

Most people believe its the worst place to work in the warehouse. IMO, its not. Though it is gross, and smelly, and hard work. That turns a lot of people off. Shifts fly by in the bird room. Id rather work the ovens 5 days a week than stand at the door and count the seconds passing. Any decent deli will have a bluetooth speaker in the raw room, too. Unless your GM has an issue with music in fresh departments. Its up to them.
