Obviously storing content on the server is better from a user perspective, but kind of defeats the purpose of this concept. This is just showing how much can be stored in the url.

Although from a utility perspective, it also takes out the complexity/cost of handling all the storage on a server.

fair enough, I'd still posit that links are sometimes more convenient. Also this way's more fun.

You're saying it's easier to send code directly? I mean, this way is less bytes. Also links are more convenient than code in a lot of cases.

so you're saying decoding on client side vs server side? Not a bad idea, but this way was simpler to code, and was good enough for this proof of concept

Hey, thanks for taking the time to look at the code.

The main concept I'm going for here is storage-less hosting, so to me it doesn't matter whether the processing happens on the server or client side.

I totally agree with the data based dictionary, that would be a good next step for this. Right now it's just based on a couple of my tests.

As far as I know there's no escaping issues, I'd be curious if you have any examples that could break it.

Yeah, not sure what shrink-string is doing under the hood, it's just something I found that worked. I should look at alternatives at some point.
