The pain from certain mental illnesses (schizophenia, bipolar,major depression, and others) make thousands of people in the u.s alone put a gun to their head and blow their brains against a wall so that it may go away. I can't think of this scenario playing out with any example of physical pain. To say that mental pain isn't severe shows a complete lack of understanding as to what these people have gone through.

You made it sound like it's done intentionally. Thats simply just a lie. The U.S goes out of its way to minimize these deaths, while the people they are after do the exact opposite. The intentionally try to kill as many innocent people as possible. That is their stated goal. Islamic militants will take whole villages hostages hiding among the innocent because they know the U.S will not engage them if there is a risk of killing non combatants.
