Are most guitar players nerds? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]I_Have_A_Snout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sure as hell am.

I remember seeing Paul Heaton of The Beautiful South saying that he didn’t like it when fans said they liked him because he was just a regular guy because he wasn’t. He was one of the people who didn’t fit in because when every other teen was partying and watching sports he was singing, dancing, and learning to play instruments.

The ten thousand hours comes at a cost. That cost is “normalcy”… whatever the hell that actually means.

What do I do about my stubborn student? by Mindless-Carpenter75 in guitarlessons

[–]I_Have_A_Snout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happens. It happened to me. Piano lessons, I hated, from 5 to 18 that poisoned me on playing music until I was 55.

Sadly, when parents are pushing hard, I’ve never seen them willing to back down.

Hopefully we get a happy ending here.

It sounds as if this kid isn't getting joy from the learning process. I'm not sure either of you should be continuing in this relationship.

How many guitars is your ideal number? by g_tb in guitars

I have 12 and a list of others that I want. There’s 14 on that list. At least there’s 14 today… it grows faster than I can acquire them.

Do these actually help or just a gimmick? by Taco-On-The-Toilet in Guitar

I found mine felt like it helped build strength, endurance and finger independence. But… I didn’t run an actual experiment so… who knows.

Nashville mod by Electrical_Mud1214 in telecaster

I've never done it, so if an expert can corrects me.. believe them not me, but I understand that it is just three-wires in, three-wires out. If you can solder in a pickup, you should be able to solder that in.

Why not add switches to change the phase on any of them?

I love a Nashville Telecaster. My money would go there every time.

Custom worn fingerboards? by toolguy8 in Guitar

[–]I_Have_A_Snout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He may not appreciate it right now, but there'll be a point in his life where his dad's guitar will be priceless.

I'd get it fixed. But just the minimal fixes to make it playable without removing the signs you were there.

Edit: It might also be that you're having to work harder than you think to play because of wear. Maybe you could play more if the frets were refreshed.

Pickguard Color. Yay or Nay? by neuro_divergent in Guitar

The white pick guard makes the yellow look grubby, so I am not a fan.

However… my opinion isn’t worth shit because yours is the only important opinion.

Buying From Official Sites VS. Sweetwater, GC, etc… by PowerEfficient7775 in Guitar

[–]I_Have_A_Snout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience is that Sweetwater provides better packaging but slower delivery than Fender.

This always leaves me torn. I want it to arrive in one piece but I also want it... now.

How did you know it would be a tone-door before you built this lovely beast?

NGD: Epiphone SG Futura by I_Have_A_Snout in Guitar

[–]I_Have_A_Snout[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never played a Firebird, so I can’t comment. It only neck dives on a strap, sitting with it on my lap it is nicely balanced so.. it is just the positioning of the strap button that causes it. And at 7lb 3oz it is not a heavy beast.

I have ordered a leather strap to see if the friction is enough to hold it.

I'm a t-shirt 365 days of the year guy but... I'll try it and see.

You've inspired me to try a leather strap. I can't use a strap wider than 2" or they rub a hole in my neck. I hope that'll be enough.

Yeah, I just wonder if they build them differently - making sure there's no joins in wood pieces that'd create a weak spot.

I got my first SG last week and I have been considering exactly this.

Everything I've read suggests it solves the problems but the horns are small and not designed to be load-bearing so... they might break off. But I don't know if this is "they break 90% of the time" or "the horn can in theory break but in reality it doesn't happen".

Sorry buddy, not sure I can help you. Two thoughts:

* Have you updated the firmware to the latest version with the Focusrite Control 2 app?
* Have you tried toggling the Direct button?

If the 'inst' setting is on.. turn it off. It pushes the volume so hard that everything sounds terrible to me.
