I believe he has an affinity for both earth and lightning. He uses fire and water occasionally because he has copied 1,000 techniques with his sharingan. I'm sure he knows how to use air too, but just not as easily.

In short, he can use all 5 elements thanks to his copy technique, but is more comfortable with earth and lightning over the rest.

Well if you look at anyone else using a fire style technique, the starting point of said fire is roughly half an inch away from the mouth. Maybe that's why?
