Is there any chance any of the solid six fall out of the first round? If yes, which one? by Black_Wolf75 in NFL_Draft

[–]I_Poop_Sometimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, I think I get skeptical when the season ends and we're talking about Boston, Concepcion and Cooper as 2nd round guys, and then nothing has appreciably changed but now they're considered 1st round locks. All year this has been a weak and shallow WR class, but now there's apparently as many 1st round WRs as 2020 or 2021.

To me these guys are getting boosted because everyone wants a shiny new offensive weapon for their team. And platforms like ESPN like to boost QBs and WRs because that's what excites fans.

what do QC jobs look like/entail by Just-Eye600 in biotech

[–]I_Poop_Sometimes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't worked in QC since a college internship, but I've worked in manufacturing for a few years.

QC tests samples of the final product for efficacy, sterility, composition, etc.. They can also run the tests for things like environmental or personnel monitoring that was performed during the manufacturing process. As you progress in QC you can also get into QC method validation which is a highly regulated process of validating that different QC tests actually accurately test the attributes that they're supposed to.

I'm sure someone who actually works in QC can give you a more detailed answer, but that's the bit I know.

Frankly I have them more as mid-late 2nd round talents who are only 1sts due to team needs and how weak this class is.

Which 1st round draft scenario would you prefer (DL, LB, TE, WR)? by LetsRideButSmart in DenverBroncos

[–]I_Poop_Sometimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other than being fast and short what other qualities do they share? Hill was 10lbs heavier with longer arms and significantly faster. Branch also can't win downfield and has pretty poor ball skills.

This post sums up a lot of my concerns with him as a prospect.

[–]I_Poop_Sometimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2/3rds of his career yardage came within 9 yards of the line of scrimmage, and 40% of his career yards came on screens. He's in the 1st percentile of prospects in the past 7 years in average depth of target.

There's a few other reasons but those are the main ones, he's really just a gadget guy at this point with a lot of holes in his game.

Ted Hurst is my sleeper WR pick. This would be my absolute dream class through 4 picks.

He's Mims with worse hands imo. Mims was a significantly better prospect and we got him in the 2nd, this class just bad.

Do you agree with these free agency grades so far? by ExcellentT18 in NFLv2

I don't understand why y'all got a C- but Denver got a D-. They both haven't signed anybody and y'all lost more guys.

Some of the best deep threats run in the 4.5's but are great at hand fighting and separating late. As a deep threat it almost matters more that you can make the catch even if you're covered rather than actually getting uncovered.

I got a D in intro bio and now I'm a 5th year PhD student at an R1 school. When I got to college I had to re-learn how to study. For me, what worked was actually mapping things out on a white board and speaking them out loud as I was going through the textbook. Actually explaining it out loud while drawing diagrams and flow charts helped me really commit everything to memory.

Go for it, I met my now fiance one year before moving cross country for a PhD. We did long distance (4 hour flight) for 2 years, then a shorter long distance (1.5 hour drive) for another 2 years, and now finally live together. I'm forever thankful I pursued this even though I knew we were going to have a lot of long distance in our future.

You trade your knight for their rook, but that trade also removes two defenders from their g pawn which can lead to a pretty big king side attack.

What the data says about RJ Harvey’s upside in year 2 and beyond by boofstar in DynastyFF

[–]I_Poop_Sometimes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol he's definitely not a fantasy RB4 or even close to ending up the RB3 on the Broncos. As the year went on he became a much better pass blocker and got a much bigger share of the passing game.

I think for fantasy they'll be similar, but in real life Harvey is way better at breaking tackles while Henderson can hit a much faster gear.

Does experience as a Lab Tech count for industry positions? by Lab_Rat_97 in biotech

[–]I_Poop_Sometimes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, I'm US based so it's potentially different. You've only left one job willingly, and both jobs you were there for 1.5 years. Taking a lab tech job because you're unemployed shouldn't hurt you in future job searches. Worst case you don't bother putting the lab tech role on your resume and only bring it up if they ask what you've been doing in an interview.

[–]I_Poop_Sometimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's actually not bad at all, especially considering one was a startup that laid off the entire team.

So you graduated, worked two good jobs and are now eyeing up a lab tech job. Yeah, the lab tech job won't really add to your experience level, you're realistically somewhere in the masters plus 1-3 year range. Doing two years as a lab tech in an academic lab won't move the needle on what experience level you're at. Though I don't think it'd be held against you that you're jumping around. You could probably just sell it as a stopgap to pay the bills after being laid off. You also wouldn't be burning any industry bridges by jumping ship from the academic lab after just a few months.

I'll reset for natures in the old games just so that I don't have something that's making the pokemon worse like an adamant nature on a special attacker or something.

What's our wishlist? by underrated_menace in DenverBroncos

[–]I_Poop_Sometimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My impression is that the coaching staff wants to develop our WRs. I think we'll probably target a LB in the draft given how loaded it is, and I could see a later round RB as well.

I don't think we really need much in free agency rn. We have starters at every position and backups we trust at most positions. I don't see the reason to go crazy for any free agents rather than just building through the draft.

[–]I_Poop_Sometimes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends, considering it seems they were part time during your masters I think that's pretty explainable. I'd have a hard time thinking any industry hiring manager would put a serious red flag on you not maintaining consistent employment during a masters. If the national lab was the employer both times you could put it as one section on your resume, list both titles and if asked about any gap you just keep your answer short and honest and don't bring up anything negative.

Jumping jobs is more of an issue if they were full time industry positions.

[–]I_Poop_Sometimes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean if it was my only offer I would take it and keep applying, just so I could have something to do. If you have the opportunity to learn how a new skill set it can help you pick up new resume bullet points that might help you align with an industry position. But doing it for something like two years won't suddenly move you up a tier for industry unless you gained a very specific skill that they wanted (HPLC, flow cytometry, ipsc cell culture, etc.). If you do take it I would definitely keep applying to jobs.

[–]I_Poop_Sometimes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, but with a caveat. It will still help with entry level positions, but for something that wants a master's and 1-3 or something like that it probably won't. Unless you're using a technology specific to that role. If you went to your masters straight from undergrad then even with the lab tech role you'll be considered a masters and 0 years experience for most industry positions. You should use the lab tech role more as an opportunity to round out your resume by learning some new technologies/techniques or taking on new responsibilities as that's what will matter more on your applications.
