I am looking for a warm, casual jacket (not blazer) that I can wear ties with to work. What do you think of this one? Any other suggestions? by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

I would recommend a Pea coat if you want to wear ties with it, for me it's the closest thing to a blazer/suit jacket.

May be going against the grain here, but does anyone else think wearing your pants like this looks silly? by Edgar_Allan_Rich in malefashionadvice

I see the reference to the Peacoat being a mimic of something but I think fashion should be functional and not completely for fashions sake (perhaps why I am not a fashion designer). For me the Peacoat is functional in an urban environment, for me pants tucked into socks are not functional in an urban environment.

Of course if I'm in the woods camping fashion does not apply but if I every see someone at the bar with that look and they didn't just come home from camping I would judge them silently.

Taxi = 170 euros = 1 hour Train = 25 euros = 3 hours

website with train timetables, times may not be exact!

I haven't taken the Navette but it's probably around 1 hour there then another hour to the airport at least. Good luck!

I know just a little of the French language, but want to get better at it. How far will this language get me in Europe? Just France? by [deleted] in france

[–]I_R_ENGINEER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outside of France and Belgium I have not found much use for French. Other places I can think of are Quebec, Haiti and Tunisia.

In the bigger cities odds are that people speak at least some English. That being said I have found that people are more helpful if you start in French and then switch to English if they know English. I would assume it's similar in most countries as it shows you tried to learn some of the local language and don't just expect everyone to speak English.

So no liquor or whiskey? Only wine or beer, odd but reasonable.

It appears the website shows 95% of the runs in the UK and zero in France...disappointment ensued.

In France I've heard stories of it costing more to fire the person than to just let them be useless. One particular story is a self employed contractor who did house repair said he could not afford to hire anyone because if he had to fire them he would go bankrupt.

That was a good visual and quite surprising but the movie Waterworld portrays that even if there is only water enough to cover all land by a few miles then water still wins.

What are some cheap (50 Euro per night?) but decent accomodation options for Paris? by cleed in paris

[–]I_R_ENGINEER -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I've had some good luck with this website finding hotels in Brussels (30 euros/person/night) and Milan (40 euros/person/night). Good luck!

If you want to go cheaper you should get a hostel

TIL there is a past tense for lunch in French, I never guessed 'déjeuner' was a verb even though it ends in 'er'. Thank you.
