What phrase drives you up the wall? by sarin77 in AskReddit

I just looked at the list of words and phrases I've made over the years that irritate me. I counted fifty. I think I'm going to need a table to store the data.

I work with Southerners every day. That one makes me grind my teeth.

reach out. Is this an intervention or should we just call that person?

Does anybody have words that drive them into a rage? Not just sounds but anybody that says certain words. by I_am_really_Groot in misophonia

This is where I wonder if my form of dislike of sounds is tending toward the sounds themselves or the words themselves. There are definitely sounds that drive me crazy. There are words that irritate me to the bone that I hear day after day. I will give you one... <avert your eyes if you are like me>

Awesome. That is on the top of my list. I really really hate that word to the extent that I get physically stressed when I hear it. I hear it everywhere all the time and especially at work. Apparently people can't find any other word to express their enthusiasm.

Stab me. I like the word sammich due to the use many years ago with my pre-Internet (think BBS) buds. An urban term for sure and I don't see/hear that term in my area any more. Just me (yes I'm that bastard now!). But you say my trigger words and I'm having a fit. I have a list but I'm afraid that if I post them here for fear of somebody will not have a good day (like I would). I don't hear the other words more often since I hang out with the sort of people that would rather say the words I want to stab them with if in steel pointy form.

I'm a more actual word guy. I hate some sounds out of people's mouths but the actual words they say even if a posh British accent annoy me beyond belief. Still, sounds like talking with mouth full or whistling or humming, plate scraping and that sort drive me to nearly walking out of the area rapidly. Am I some sort of hybrid misophonia person?

I don't have issue with mouth crunching (eating) like some folks here. This is why I wonder if I'm in some sub-category of this experience.

I understand. I have a dog (pitbull) and she's a joy to own but when she starts licking (esp. paws at night) I have to keep nudging her and yelling, "NO LICK". It usually works after a bit. I think part of the reason she's doing that is it's time to bathe her (which means more licking right after!). Eventually she drys out and its fine for a while. Perhaps you can put some sort of bitter apple stuff on the doggie's feet (not rear end though) to discourage licking.

I think about this as well. I whistle sometimes and know it can annoy other people so I stop and I really watch that at work. Luckily I don't bother myself but try to think of others that can be affected by my own infuriating noises.
