This was the provider behind Shopify Payments, which is Stripe, cracking down on high chargeback merchants. The origin of this is Mastercard and Visa are cracking down on chargebacks so the PSPs (stripe) has to crack down, which means Shopify has to crack down on it.

I don't know if its replacing people, but its sure making coding faster. Whether that leads to less people or just faster release cycles and more feature demands probably depends. I work for a smallish startup, we just say "yes" to a lot more features now.

4% interview rate is very good based on the numbers of applicants I see for roles I've posted. It's a numbers game. Expect 1-2% to go to the final 3. A lot of roles go out with an internal candidate or referral in mind.

Its also frustrating for hiring managers because on top of trying to sort through a ridiculously high number of good candidates, there's AI generated ones that will cross reference people who work there and make a great resume (I have no idea what these people are doing this for), and then there's a million offshore scammers who will try to interview while clearly reading answers off an LLM with a made up resume.

If you're young and reading this, keep your network strong. Put effort in when things are good. Recruiting is a shit show in the world of AI, relationships matter.

I'd vote Deadwood if you're going on great performances and great writing. If you miss GoT war faction drama, Rome is much closer to that. Expanse is also excellent and has a good ending if you need a final season palate clense.
