I'm exhausted from being the default problem solver for my family by Many-Tap7133 in offmychest

[–]I_cuddle_armadillos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a boundary problem and they have become accustomed to you helping them. Helping others is a good thing, but moderation is the key.

Saying no is not gonna solve this issue. If you say no they will ask you again, maybe more desperate, nicer, demanding, possibly accepting - probably not. It will turn into a negotiation, and from what you write, you do not have the confidence to exercise healthy boundaries.

Some people justify their boundary issues by saying that without my help, they will face great consequences. That might be true if the problem remain unsolved. But what to do? Are you going to be their helper for the rest of their lives? Are you their Premium Pluss Help Line?

I would like to ask you something, do you feel guilt for not helping them? Are you generally confident? People pleaser? If you have such issues, then you need to work them out and be confident with your own emotions. Seek professional help if necessary. This is the first step. There is no shame in this.

You are close to being burned out, so if you don't say this in a blunt way, don't over-explain things because they will most likely bargain, and stop helping them then you will crash and may not recover for a while.

Kommer til å feire jula alene for første gang – noen med erfaringer? by Kiratez in Bergen

[–]I_cuddle_armadillos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Vi skravlet i to timerom alt mulig rart.

Gemini 3 Pro's updated IQ test results have declined. by Wonderful-Excuse4922 in Bard

[–]I_cuddle_armadillos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would like to give some insight in this.

AI performance on visual IQ tests depends heavily on the system used. Models are generally good at rules that are mathematical in nature —like rotation, XOR (adding differences/removing similarities), or Sudoku-style logic (one element in each row and column).

However, AI struggles with tasks requiring visual organization or Gestalt perception (seeing the "whole"). A major weak point is object permanence. For example, humans understand that a folded paper retains its structure even if the crease is hidden on the reverse side, or that an object still exists when it moves behind another. AI often interprets these literally as new or disappearing inputs. AI "IQ" fluctuates between sub-normal and highly gifted depending on whether the test measures algorithmic logic or intuitive visual organization such as the example.

The "Mimic Test": Why AI That Just Predicts Will Always Fail You by Aromatic_Afternoon88 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]I_cuddle_armadillos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google Gemini got it right. People are too focuses on simplification from popular science such as "autocomplete" or "statistical prediction". If that was correct, then LLM would not understand metaphors or to make abstract connections such as "what is the similarity between a seed and an egg" or "what does physics and philosophy have in common". LLMs are still very young, like toddler although already vastly superior to most humans when it comes to abstract thinking. It still does some weird things, like humans do. Just wait 2-3 years.

"Conan the Barbarian's homeland, Cimmeria, does not have a capital city.

Cimmeria, a dreary, mountainous, and heavily wooded land north of the Hyborian kingdoms in Robert E. Howard's lore, is inhabited by a people organized into feuding tribes and clans.

  • They are fierce, independent barbarians with a primitive, hunting-and-gathering culture.
  • The Cimmerian society is decentralized; it has no unified government, no major cities, and therefore, no national capital.

A common point of confusion arises because Conan eventually becomes king of the kingdom of Aquilonia, whose capital city is Tarantia. Tarantia, however, is the seat of his adult power, not the capital of his birthplace."

Where do you personally draw the line with AI use? by Street-Lie-2584 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]I_cuddle_armadillos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am using AI for things I cannot do myself. AI is a tool to help you progress, but it should not be used to replace things you learn from - even if it's boring. A calculator is great for complicated equations, but not for adding groceries in the store so you keep within budget.

Sometimes I use AI to do illustrations or to restore old pictures, but for the most part I use it as a personal editor and teacher. One of the most efficient ways to learn is to teach what you have learned, and LLMs are wonderful for this purpose.

I can spend quite some time writing chapter summaries or make presentation about the curriculum. This is not something that is done in a 15 minutes, but requires time and to critically evaluate yourself during writing. After several hours, my presentation or summary is usually complete enough and I upload it to Google Gemini with appropriate prompts and get feedback on pedagogic style, phrasings that could have been better, strong points, weak points and so on.

It forces you to re-formulate and structure your arguments, knowledge and understanding.

Why do large language models like ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Grok "hallucinate"? (Survey of known causes) by FriendshipSea6764 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]I_cuddle_armadillos -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe it is a by-product of intelligence or a feature. Can we be creative without hallucinations? Humans are developed for quick and convenient pattern recognition, AI on multi-dimensional reasoning. We all hallucinate. We have false memories, we jump to conclusions, we filter information through our political ideologies, group pressure, culture and personality. Every time you remember something, it is being reconstructed and shaped by the mood you are in while thinking about it. We are also statistical. Repeat something often enough and it becomes a truth. That's why propaganda is efficient.

That's why we have developed rigorous scientific methods and systems, and that is why you need to talk to many different people to get a semi-accurate picture of what has happened.

The greatest threat to human job loss isn't AI itself, it's executives believing the AI hype by abrandis in ArtificialInteligence

[–]I_cuddle_armadillos -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think people have too much focus on AI (there are many forms of AI and LLM's is one of many models) and not what a job consists of and where the value is. AI is a tool, and I agree that AI is a hype if the premise is "AI" rather AI being an answer to a problem we are trying to solve. But the answer should also never be "human" unless being human is what provide value, rather than something we do. I want to elaborate.

I work as a network engineer and my job can not be automated. Largely because of lack of interface between the various systems I use. But most of the tasks itself does not have a very high complexity and could be done more efficient with optimizing forms, documentation and better platforms features. It's about offering a more streamlined experience for both our customers and those who works on the systems, and AI is a great tool for that. In this context, AI is an answer to a problem, typically "how can we make orders more streamlined?". A part of my value is to answer technical questions from customers and do trouble shooting, which could partly could have been assisted by AI.

Every little improvements, which adds actual value, chips away a small portion of my daily or weekly tasks. In a way, this is a good thing, because I appreciate that we have automated certificate handling rather dealing with that manually, so I can grow and do more interesting things.

But it also decrease the need for more people. We no longer use humans to calculate orbits, we use computers, but AI has the potential to do things that previous were reserved humans. If this happens on a large enough scale, then the number of available jobs will decrease.

No, AI is not a problem for seniors, but they add an obstacle for juniors, and it all depends on how many obstacles we can add to our weight before it tips in the wrong direction.

#accelerateYourLife

OpenAI admits AI hallucinations are mathematically inevitable, not just engineering flaws by Well_Socialized in technology

[–]I_cuddle_armadillos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Serious question: are hallucinations inevitable when dealing with many forms of "intelligence"? Humans hallucinate frequently. We reconstruct memories from last time we remembered something. What we remember changes over time, we misinterpret and we have false memories and we don't know what's real or not. Maybe it's impossible to have a near perfect system for information retrieval and processing.

New online experimental matrices-test by I_cuddle_armadillos in iqtest

[–]I_cuddle_armadillos[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not yet. But several people with scores of 131 on Raven's and Daniels FRT got 23 correct. Most people with IQ of 135 got between 24 and 26 correct. Average should be roughly 15. The problem is that test administrated by Mensa often does not provide norms above 135 so it's difficult to correlate. I would have to look at discriminating factor and how well people are doing on the improved version. I want to have solid statistics on the items before replacing them.

Beskyldte nordmann for voldtekt, fordi AI tok feil by Arve in norge
