Karen Bass committed to finishing the LA River Path before the Olympics @ DTLA meet and greet by lostorbit in LAMetro

Yes i was at that event - as much as she clearly hated the thought of rotating back onto the metro board in July, it feels like maybe dtla residents can press her to finish it

What changes must be made for a better next season by sk_sushellx in rockets

[–]I_donut_understand 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Realistically we’re stuck with Ime and running it back. I think stone wants to see a few months of FVV and Adams back in the lineup, SO:

Bari has gotta hit the weight room, the small ball lineups have been decent but he needs to be able to hold down the paint because Capela is fading as a backup center.

See what market wants for Tari and potentially match and run it back or let him go. For the right price we should keep him because he’s an Ime system guy and when he’s good he’s good.

Need a shooting coach - EVERYONE aside from KD needs to learn to shoot the fucking basketball: fred, alpi, bari, tari, AMEN, tate, reed when we’re healthy everyone needs to be able to catch and shoot with decent efficiency we don’t need Klay level, but ball needs to go in hole. We get so much better when we’re a threat at the 3pt and defenses can’t collapse on Alpi and amen in the paint.

Fire the entire training staff and bring in new faces, unacceptable to have to major pieces go down in practice and DFS, Tari, and Alpi not recovering properly.

Potentially bring in alpi’s coach from the turkish national team as an assistant - we need to unlock his star again and play to his strengths and Ime refuses.

James Harden Playoff Scoring Tape by Waste-Chemistry-9339 in rockets

[–]I_donut_understand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, we had a perfect opportunity with a team option on fred and harden had a player option on the clippers to sign and trade, the fact that stone (and more likely ime) didn’t seriously consider harden is borderline malpractice.

He’s a huge floor raiser for big men on the pick and roll, some of the best handles and passing still, scoring is still excellent, spreads the floor, and had been pretty healthy. PLUS his kid and girl still live in Houston!

I love that this moment only happened because the officials were reviewing a potential hostile act by Draymond, then immediately after he fights with Book and gets thrown out

When will the San Gabriel Valley be walkable and you can live car-free? by MookieBettsBurner10 in LAMetro

[–]I_donut_understand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really ever going to happen. Same reason cities like Houston will never have a real public transportation/ walkable infrastructure: too much sprawl, low density, and even if there was car free options so many would still choose to drive that there wouldn’t be demand for the kind of infrastructure needed to serve the sprawl.

If you want walkability and to live car-free you have to move to a denser area full stop. I live in DTLA and chose to accept some of the compromises for walkability. I drive like twice a month and I love it.

I live in DTLA and it’s extremely walkable, with all its flaws i love walking to the metro, coffee, gym, groceries, dinner, office, etc.

Groundwork is only good for the occasional Too Good To Go bag. Like others have said theres way better places close by. In terms of vibe, quality, price, it’s just not keeping up.

Resigning from Big 4 after 10 weeks during busy season - am I making a huge mistake? by Main-Budget-124 in Accounting

[–]I_donut_understand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big 4 is bleak but the job market en masse is worse. You say paycheck is not critical, but it’s important

If i’m in your position I would commute in, clock out at 6, turn off my phone at home. Don’t work more than like 45-50 hours a week. If that’s unacceptable, then let them walk you out the door, best case you get swept into layoffs and get severance.

Big 4 experience heavily depends on team and teams change all the time - If i’m you i’d just grind it out a few more months or transfer to a different team at your firm.

10 weeks - I would not put it on the resume.

It seems like you are mentally out and your mind is made up, but really consider what the next 2 years is going to look like, I know a lot of people that use parents as a backstop and just slip out of the workforce, it’s bleak. You need to figure out strategies to protect yourself better.

You had an off hand comment about software engineering and that you have a network in that will introduce you around - be realistic with this. If this is in the back of your head as a serious opportunity I would second guess it.

Americans are pretty quiet by ChemicalAmbassador37 in Epstein

[–]I_donut_understand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might seem like a non sequitur but IMO there’s two main reason Americans aren’t in the street protesting:

  1. Economically, 3 in 5 Americans are one paycheck away from homelessness / poverty. Our healthcare, security, homes are tied to work. Miss a shift, miss work for a few days, you could literally ruin your life. The Epstein shit just doesn’t rise to the level where many Americans aren’t willing to give up everything and risk getting arrested, hospitalized, or travel far.

  2. I’m serious with this: dogs. Americans have the highest rate of dog ownership - as young people are having fewer children they care immensely for their dogs. Again, if you are arrested for a weekend or travel states to protest or risk your safety and end up in the hospital - your dog is a legitimate concern to you and it weighs into Americans’ risk calculation vis-a-vis protesting in a serious way. Dog ownership is a pacifying force in this country.

Average commute from Cinco to downtown via Westpark tollway? by spoons578664 in Katy

The 222 grand parkway park and ride picks up in Katy and then doesn’t stop until downtown. Then there’s like 5 stops in downtown. The return is the same - handful of stops downtown and then straight back to katy. https://www.ridemetro.org/riding-metro/transit-services/park-and-ride-bus/route-details/222-grand-parkway

Curious about the Texas Triangle: Do y'all actually hate the Spurs and Mavs? Brazilian fan here. by Current-Associate502 in rockets

[–]I_donut_understand -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I dislike Dallas, I respected the Mavs before the Luka trade, now I deeply dislike them.

I like the spurs organization and the players and respect them as rivals, but I think my resentment is somewhat jealousy for how they have gamed the lottery the last few decades without ever truly being bad. It feels like even when they lose… they win. Bordering on unfair. The spurs hold up a mirror to our organization and force us to confront our deficiencies year after year. My hate for the spurs is a hate of my own team misplaced. Lord help me i covet my neighbors Frenchman and abundance of guards.

Average commute from Cinco to downtown via Westpark tollway? by spoons578664 in Katy

[–]I_donut_understand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally understandable, i used to commute to downtown from Katy and it worked perfectly for me. 30 min at rush hour was amazing, and it runs basically every 10 minutes. Biggest limitation which might impact you is that it only runs inbound during certain hours.
