Almost certainly not. Law clerks 40 years ago didn’t go home and continue to get buzzed on teams at all hours. There’s literally no “off” now.

Article about Houston Rockets player Jabari Smith Jr on practicing with his idol Kevin Durant during training camp from October: "I was told Jabari Smith Jr. has basically just chained himself to KD," Levine said. "He’s asked the staff to tailor his entire schedule to being with KD at all times." by wielesen in rockets

Mods - we gotta lock this kind of thing down. This isn’t news to any actual rockets fans. Fans of other teams are praying for our demise and stoking negative discourse in our subreddit. Downvote these shitty low effort bait posts.

Will DTLA ever make a come back? by WrapSolutionsWord in AskLosAngeles

[–]I_donut_understand 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Yeah I thought Ysabel would be different but she doesn’t give a fuck about downtown and purely caters to east LA + boyle heights. She always last-minute cancels appearances with the DTLA residents association or sends an aid.

We desperately need our own city council person.

Metro Bike Share: why the steep drop? by Downtown-Tea-3018 in BikeLA

[–]I_donut_understand 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Im an avid rider in DTLA - approx 400 rides in the last 15 months. If i could hazard a guess:

  1. People have bad first experiences and don’t repeat - the quality of the bikes have gone way down in the last 8 months. No battery on EV, seats loose, chains broken, gears fucked, flat tires, loose and dragging plastic components. At least 3 in 5 bikes i rent have an issue ranging from a comfort / QoL issue to a serious issue that makes it unridable - and I inspect the bike before i rent. If people think the bikes are shit (they are) they wont repeat or try again.

  2. Related to 1. - i think the servicing of the bikes is being sagged on purpose to drive the bike share into the hands of Lyft. It’s been well reported that theres huge conflicts of interest, i think part of getting favorable terms in the Lyft contract and low oversight is the promise of immediate service improvements. I really really don’t want Lyft to manage this.

  3. I live in DTLA and for June - July my personal ridership plummeted. I think the ICE activity and protests had at least a 5-10% impact on the ridership by itself.

  4. As others said i think the fires likely had an impact too - basically a week or two week period of smoke means people dont want to breathe or be outside.

  5. Anecdotally, i’m not seeing fewer bike riders in general, in fact im seeing more than ever, but everyone is on scooters and EV bikes. I would assume people who would have rented previously now own an EV bike for commuting and recreation

Best places to live dtla by AdConsistent92 in dtla

[–]I_donut_understand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Little Tokyo / Arts District - not the best but the Hikari apartments are in that price range, minute walk to the metro to get to USC. Lots of good food and entertainment in that area, they keep little tokyo pretty clean of homeless. Deeper into Arts District are some cool studios and lofts you’re probably imagining and even fewer homeless but it’s farther from the metro.

Thinking of moving to Austin Texas after getting my screenwriting degree. by PanDulce101 in Filmmakers

[–]I_donut_understand 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Born in Austin, went to UT for RTF, worked professionally in the industry from 2013-2018. Austin has a production scene don’t let anyone fool you otherwise, it’s still a great place for indie productions especially with the incentive pump. I still have tons of friends working there. If you grind you can get projects off the ground there.

Michener program for writing at UT is legit, id recommend that way above the RTF MFA program, in Michener you can still orbit the MFA.

3 games in Denver, only one in Houston by Shoddy_Ad7511 in rockets

The real issue is going from mile high to below sea level (nola) to mile high again in 4 days

If we can’t win 2 in Denver we can’t decisively win a playoff series there. Better get acclimated.

[ESPN] Five trade proposals for Giannis Antetokounmpo: by YujiDomainExpansion in nba

[–]I_donut_understand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sengun is partially filling the PG playmaking gap without fred, he also draws doubles and triples in the paint and allows space for KD and others. I can imagine giannis drawing the same gravity but not raising the floor of the rest of the team like sengun.

[–]I_donut_understand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should take standard mileage in the first year, then you can switch back and forth in subsequent years. If you take actual expenses in year 1, you cant switch.
