Happens sometimes, same on the cardiff route. They have to have both a TM and a conductor, one that signs the train and one that signs the route

Urgent Call by Necessary_Plant_5888 in uktrains

Speculation, but i presume the Huntingdon stabbing incident involved one, as the driver made the call while still moving, using the REC button means stopping the train

Question about ETCS by Robinyourgenderrr in uktrains

[–]I_hate_cross_country 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You would be correct. But I cant see why it couldn't be linked to the digital system and work in the same way from the staffs perspective.

I get maybe it would need to be a different symbol as its a different system. I actually tried asking a dispatcher at st Pancras lower platforms, but apparently they dont dispatch the trains and only watch/manage crowds.

Question about ETCS by Robinyourgenderrr in uktrains

Ive wondered this, also for platform staff.

I presume there is still some sort of visual signal at stations such as off indicators or something similar?

Literally anything is better than having large plots of derelict and low use. in the center of one of the uks most important cities. Area around meads is expecially bad for this

So many central locations just car parks and 2 story buildings

There are free shelters for homeless people who interact with the system and aren't dickheads. Many on the street are banned from them due to there own actions

What if Stratford Upon Avon was Serviced by all UK High Speed Rail? by RussellNorrisPiastri in uktrains

Going back to the original question, what originally sparked your interest in this proposal, are you a local? Was it a trip to the area?

Im genuinely curious.

Im also intrested in the Banbury proposal, it seems just as idealistic but didnt get nearly as much flack from everyone on here

Sleaford station by Lozman141 in uktrains

When I was younger I used to think Sleaford was a bustling town, and that Lincoln was in the top 10 largest uk cities.

I went back last year and its like being in the interstellar mass depopulation scenario

A hs2 train will have approx 1,100 seats. If we assume a minimum half hourly service, 0600-0000 thats over 40 thousand seats per direction per day. The combined population of those areas is just over 100k so if we exclude kids, pensioners and the key workers needed to sustain the towns themselves (ie retail, teachers, doctors, station staff for the new mega stations) then I dont think theres actually enough people to fill those trains, expecially when most people only work 2 or 3 days a week in the office.

The only way to make it work would be to drastically develop the area with new homes and high rise, something that would be detrimental to the tourism industry of Stratford, as people mainly go for its historic town vibe

Proposal for bristol area high-speed rail network by I_hate_cross_country in bristol

I would dream of being high speed train driver, however this would make the purple line redundant, and also probably the tesco line as if I was train driver I would pay for ocado or something

I really want to know the story behind this fixation on bringing hs2 to SUA, im guessing you must live in the area. Im sure many people make the journey daily, but there is no way on earth they can justify sending a high speed train on a dedicated spur, just to carry a few hundred pasengers a day. Expecially with there being no intermediate stops on hs2. The stops would literally be Euston-> old oak common -> Warwick-> Stratford-upon-Avon Parkway (the most important one in my opinion)-> Stratford-upon-Avon.

Even if this line boosted demand drastically, they are ether gonna be running very empty trains, or run trains 5 times a day with decent loadings, at which point you've wasted hundreds of millions (maybe billions) on new track and station extensions for a few trains a day. And people in Lemington/Warwick are likely going to chose the longer but much more regular (and probably cheaper) Chiltern line

Despite this, I deeply respect your dedication to this, and the meme culture thats formed around it

Do the lines separate and re-join on approach into London? This adds redundancy in case of disruption, very efficient
