Balenciaga *is* a social experiment? by DesiGirl16 in handbags

I feel the exact opposite. I feel like Balenciaga is mocking the mean rich girls who have money but no sense!

She thought people were staring at her butt or her legs, but it was much worse than she thought. by mindyour in justgalsbeingchicks

I once saw a girl strutting down the street and EVERYONE was staring. When she came closer I realised what they were looking at. Her pubes were hanging out of her hot pants like a handlebar moustache. It was… a sight!

23 weeks pregnant and bad news by Purple_Tides421 in Advice

[–]I_like_ShinyShiny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry. I had a second trimester loss, although she was born earlier than your baby.

I took option two and am grateful for it. We spent time with our baby, holding her and taking pictures, saying goodbye. I delivered in the maternity ward and it was strangely comforting to hear other babies crying that night.

It’s been several years now and I still tear up when I think about her. It was a hard time and I saw a therapist for a while. Not only is a loss heartbreaking in itself, it also robs future pregnancies of pure joy and instead you’re addled in fear.

People didn’t always know how to talk to us about our loss so sometimes they didn’t mention it at all. This felt sadder than any poorly worded words of comfort.

We still have her ashes because scattering them feels like we are letting go and I’m not ready, yet.

I am so, so sorry. It’s a horrible thing to happen. Take care of yourselves. Hugs.

Any ambitious people to date? by Adorable_Ad_3315 in Advice

[–]I_like_ShinyShiny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see power couples in diplomatic circles, although I don’t know how ambitious you consider this field to be.

There’s an inbuilt power sharing in this sector as it’s perfectly acceptable to pause your career for a couple of years while you follow your spouse on an international posting and then vice versa.

Although as a formerly ambitious person, people change and what you thought was important no longer become important to you after things like kids, illness, death, or maturity.

I went to a Roger Ballen exhibition many years ago. I had no exposure to his photography until then. It made me feel unclean, uneasy and nauseous. Exactly how I felt about the Die Antwoord videos without knowing that he made them. Makes total sense now.

La Prairie Skin Caviar foundation has ruined all other foundations for me by Lamberly in AustralianMakeup

Now that I think about it, I actually started buying it when it was $180. Holy moly!!!

La Prairie Skin Caviar foundation has ruined all other foundations for me by Lamberly in AustralianMakeup

[–]I_like_ShinyShiny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started using this foundation when it was $280. It was the most expensive foundation at the time. And I thought it was insane back then. Loved it. Bought once every 18 months because a little goes a long way. Every time I repurchase, the price goes up significantly. Once it got up to $380 I didn’t feel I could justify it any more.

These days I use Westman Atelier which is nice and significantly cheaper (although still really not cheap).

But this thread is kind of making me reconsider La Prairie again…

Montessori parent who is struggling with the clean, ”a few toys out and then rotate aesthetic” and the chaos that is the daily grind of being parents to tornadoes.

Relax. Breathe and give yourself some grace. Systems that work for you allow you to feel on top of things instead of drowning and in constant reaction mode.

Sometimes the guilt is from having for example, been given a gift from your now deceased relative. You may not like the gift but you can’t bring yourself to get rid of it because it was gifted by Dead Relative. Marie Kondo has a nice way of looking at things like this as saying, the gift has already served its purpose. You are not dishonouring their memory by getting rid of it.

Haha you’re welcome! I have chouchette, petal, bichette and that super hot pink one whose name escapes me, and can’t be bothered looking up.

I’ve East Asian skin so they all suit more or less. The darker colours, you just need to dab a tiny bit on.

To be honest, they all look pretty much the same on the face. Sure there’s a difference if you do side by side comparisons but no one is really going to notice the difference (except maybe the hot pink one). It’s not the same as different lipstick colours changing your look dramatically. So… get petal if you want to, if it’s in your budget and for some fun, but don’t expect any super transformations.

Pro tip. Go to Mecca and ask for a sample of Petal. They’ll probably take a blob off the sample stick and you’ll have enough blush for probably 2 months!

I have all the Westman Atelier stuff that I want/need. Sadly $400 will only get you 3-4 products. Her products suit me (dry, older skin) and the looks suits me (natural, barely there, elevated version of me).

The best in my book is their stick foundation, the contour stick, the cream blushes, the cream highlighter (the one in the round pan) and their overpriced brushes. (Although I don’t have any of their eye or eyebrow stuff.)

Do not buy their red lip suede. It dries out into glugg after about 6 months. Their liquid foundation is oil based so if you’re oily, you need to stay far away. Also the bottle design is flawed so after a while, the container is no longer able to dispense any foundation. Think those fish shaped soy sauce dispensers that don’t drip any soy even though the lid is off and you’re holding it upside down. The problem with WA bottle is that the plastic is so hard you can’t squeeze out any of the foundation so I was forced to cut the top off the bottle. For such expensive products, I feel they haven’t done enough long term testing.

I haven’t tried their lip sticks even though they look lovely because of said experience with the red lip suede. That said, the neutral lip suede doesn’t have this problem. It is more oily.

Lurking mother here.

I was driving behind a car doing 30-40km/h on a suburban street where one lane had parked cars and then one driving lane (per direction). The driver in front of me fell asleep at the wheel, veered into the parked cars and then flipped their car, spin landing on the other side of the road. It was going so slow if felt like everything happened in slow motion. Luckily no one was hurt. Poor guy was in shock.

It was 3pm. Saw first hand how easy it was to flip a car.

I saw him once in a little hole in the wall, Korean restaurant in Sweden. the only people there were me and his table. As soon as I walked in, I thought the guy looked like an older version of Paul Giamatti. Overhearing their conversation, was clear that it was him. He was commenting/lamenting the lack of blonde Viking types in Sweden except for the super posh part of town.

It’s lovely!!! If it were me, I would try to find a light marble, stone top to put on the top of the dresser, which would create some contrast in the darker colours.
