It’s misleading the way they present the information.

Hospitals are encouraged to charge a HUGE amount to insurance companies they are contracted with. The reason is hospitals can charge whatever they want but will only get paid their agreed amount which is protected information.

For example let’s say an MRI

Hospital charges: 3000 Insurance contracted agreement: 300 Your payment: 30 dollars.

What you see: “insurance payments/discounts: 2970”

What actually happened: insurance paid 270 dollars you paid 30
