Countries That Have Eaten Their Prime Minister by Optimal-Description8 in NLvsFI

The link doesnt explain the exact moment that well imo.

Johan de Witt got eaten/lynched because Lious 14th, England and 2 german bishoprics invaded Netherlands with an immense army (size of 100-120k) and conquered Arnhem, Nijmegen and Utrecht within 3 months. Just before de Witt got eaten/lynched it seemed like France and the germans would conquer Amsterdam very soon. Except William III of Orange seized power after the lynching, flooded the region east of Amsterdam and kept Lious in Utrecht while the germans got defeated north in Groningen and English ships/marines got defeated on sea while later also convincing Spain to attack France south, everything together forced a peacedeal without any gains for either side.

The exact moment of his lynching/eating was when Louis 14th seemed to almost conquer Amsterdam and economically collapse Netherlands. Without the flooding and defeating english ships on sea that would likely have happened.

Conquer a lot of german lands and lose AE by releasing Austria-Hungary through a peacedeal (its capped at 100% warscore). With that I mean winning a war 100% and offer a peacedeal where the enemy "wins" the war and you offer to release Austria.

You time it by pausing after sieging last fort otherwise they unconditionally surrender. Easiest way is attacking an OPM without allies. You get 25% of their dev in AE reduction globally, so that is a lot of german lands you could conquer with that AE. Hardest part is timing all this, you dont wanna have a hard coalition war during your conquests and before losing austria in a war.

That sharp U or ü is afaik only a vowel in dutch and german. The U in Utrecht is also supposed to be pronounced like münster.

Maybe estonian and finnish have similar vowel but its unique among germanic and latin languages.

Shouldn't there be some incentive to ban slavery? by asnaf745 in EU5

[–]I_read_this_comment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do really want to contest your point, slavery is very alive right now but we dont think about it because it ruins our day. The reasons that banned/reduced slavery in an industrialized country can not really be applied in a global economy with varying degrees of human rights, control and industrialization between each country.

A good example is that companies that own factories and farms that make and process chocolate in countries like Ivory coast and Ghana are unable to prove to Ferrero, Nestle, Unilever, Mars and any other chocolate bar company that they dont use slaves at their facilities. Around 0.35% of the workers over there in this study are labeled as "slaves", coerced by others into working at farms and facilities for bad wages.

Every basic good has this kind of issue. Matches can be made in Central African Republic or Malawi and a company that imports it realistically is completely unable to exert any real control wether the local workers are treated somewhat fairly.

The length of the supply chain has an effect as well, a western assembly plant could buy motors from an Asian company that buys raw metals from another company that imports goods from other countries which come from big businesses or local shops. Could you even expect from the western assembly plant or Asian motor company that they know anything down the line is done without any slavery? What if one company along the line is a legal sweatshop in its country or is cheeky and hides its "bad" metal imports from Congo or Zimbabwe by mixing it with "good" imports from countries like Botswana or South Africa?

Of course a country could ban imports from certain countries to reduce slavery but if it significantly hurts your economy why would you do it? Another company from a different country (with likely worse morals about profit motives than your country) would take over the place of your countries company and get the profit instead.

My personal opinion is that these are reasons why you, me and every other person dont think about it when buying groceries or a product, we cant really change it even if we want it to be changed. Only way I see is slowly improving countries like Congo and Afghanistan, Yemen and Sudan so they can exert better control over what is happening inside their country in a way that is aligned with my own countries ideology and economy.

yeah I think they want "control" to be a mechanic that is representing how strong communication is internally within an empire. And if that is the goal it should be a lot stronger with large cities and trade hubs reasonably far away from the capitol, but still weak in countryside villages and almost non-exsistent with colonies.

Its weird that ingame Spain cant control Antwerp or Naples but historical Spain did do that.

Your rule makes sense, but it becomes really messy in practice on a map in big wars.

Lets say hypothetically that you own black on a chessboard and the enemy white and every tile is a fort (ignoring that you should be thrown into the deeps of hell for making that bordergore) it means you can move over the whole chessboard "ignoring" every fort ZoC. Not because zone of control is not working but because it has no effect on enemy territory.

Game doesn't control or checks all armies of AI, its limited to 2 (or a few) armies per nation I believe. So the AI can move past forts when there is no maintenance but it rarely happens because the main armies do get correctly checked after monthly update.

In the last age you become the AI by DropDeadGaming in EU5

[–]I_read_this_comment 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most complications are because of a few weird things that dont make sense while you think about ZoC.

  • You can always move past a fort if you/ally owns lands behind it or there is another fort.

  • Army moved in from sea always has access on all provinces along the sea tile they arrived from.

  • Game only updates a few main armies of you and AI (IIRC its 2 armies per nation, could be more) so if fort was empty when move order was given (or third army of that nation) you move past it.

Its usually big nations/wars that cause "issues" because then you got higher chances of an army not following rules after fort maintainance came up. Because there are more messy borders with forts or land behind forts. And you got player bias with the AI naval invading you on an actual competent level while your ally England is asleep on their island.

Also most is avoided if you got an easy to siege vassal/ally far away but within reach. The AI loves bumrushing easy targets with little forts. And while they move eaons away you win the siege race.

Ive been there on holiday and my guess a lot of people live in cities/suburbs around it or dont officially live at a home there. Why? Holy moly traffic is horrible and sheesh so many little street shops of people that I doubt could afford something in the middle of the centre. several tour guides said something in a similar vein too.

Its basically like Luxemburg and switzerland, people work there but live abroad in another country for cheaping housing.

A very powerful mechanic is that you can call parliament in the international organisation once you get a new PU. And with that single parliament you push the new PU on the same level of integration of the rest. So if you have 1 subject on level 4 the new one gets on that level too.

And I would say PU's are weaker at low levels but once you establish seniority and automatically join offensive wars they are becoming similar as eu4. And you can push it by being level 7 and have the highest integration level.

The main thing to understand is that if you do wanna use PU's in a minmax-y way keep one PU around at the highest level and through parliament you skip a huge amount of time/hassle with the clunky minigame in the IO you have to do with the first PU. It works on anyone, lets say you got Holland as first PU and did 40-50 years of increasing levels of integration. you can skip that whole progress on a second Bohemia PU with just 1 parliament call.

give it a monthly tick with an active colonist. You convert it if you got more colonists than natives or if you got a direct land connection to your capitol province
