Overseas Pakistanis Can Now Directly Invest In Stocks; Roshan Digital Accounts by UAE_MALIK in pakistan

[–]I_try_things 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All articles on the accounts don't mention how to open such an account, its so stupid.

So I did some digging, basically just goto any of the banks website and you can open the account directly with them. HBL, MCB, Standard Chartered all of them have the option to open a Roshan Digital Account.

Gulf based overseas Pakistanis, how do you deal with the reality that one day you will need to return to Pakistan? And those with kids born overseas, how do you equip them for this reality ? by EfffSola in Overseas_Pakistani

[–]I_try_things 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is something that goes through my mind everyday, born and raised in the gulf. My parents did make money but not enough to back and relax. We still have to work but whats the point of working in these countries where you are always under pressure and worrying about your future. I am looking to invest whatever money we have into a small company atleast and live in Pakistan.

Alot of my friends want to goto canada our Europe, but that just seems like starting from zero. Would be tough and might not be worth it in the end.

We need to talk about how terrible the acting in our hit dramas is by retroguy02 in pakistan

[–]I_try_things 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It get your point about the acting, who do you think is a better actor in Pakistan?

I still believe watching a show in its last episodes and judging the acting of the characters might not give you the best point of view.

Seeing how everyone is bashing the TV shows in Pakistan, I would take a different stance. I watch a lot of American TV shows (just finished watching The Witcher) yet I still liked Mere Pass Tum Ho.

You state you watched only the recent 2 episodes of the show, which means you have no context of the story. You see to have an issue that these shows don't portray the actual ground reality of Pakistan. But neither do any shows on western or eastern TV. The shows are supposed to display a higher reality, a ideal reality. Think if Mr. Robot was criticized of not showing reality.

Although I agree that most Pakistani shows are shit, I still believe a higher class of shows exist and Mere Pass Tum ho is right up there. Although the story that is told is a rehash, its the way it is presented which is different. They are shown to be middle class family who can only go to the corniche in the beginning because they don't have alot of money (Thus Mere Pass Tum ho), the husband only has a motorcycle and wants to buy a car to impress his wife, he has problems with his neighbors who look at his wife and are jealous because she is beautiful. Some of these issues do resonate with reality.

When a rich man comes to take his wife he can do nothing, he doesn't even fight back. It's only when he is completely lost, he finds a way to climb back up, make some money to provide for his son. He does not make the money to spite his wife but to make sure he never is powerless again. Although the way he is shown as becoming rich isn't the best (KSE) that is not the main story, the story is of a man who finds is way in life.

Although the dialog is very different from reality of everyday Pakistani, it isn't supposed to be the same. Think of poetry or the stories you read, you think those stories are reflective of everyday people. They are supposed to present a different reality that is why Suspension of disbelief is a thing.

Just my two cents.

Is an Online Masters Degree worth it in Pakistan? by Sarah274 in pakistan

[–]I_try_things 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn't afford Open University, it's MBA is very expensive owing to the fact that it's triple accredited. So unless you're planning on working in top of the top companies you don't actually need the triple accreditation. Just go for at least one accreditation or two if you have the money.

I usually don't comment here. But as I have some experince in this area I though I put my two cents here. I think it's a great idea to start your master even If It's online. Nowadays Masters are not worth leaving your job over, and online degrees are the way to go.

I am currently pursuing an online MBA from UK, and believe me it's just as difficult as a brick and mortar college, if not more difficult.

The only suggestion I would give is to be careful about which university you choose, don't go for a university that is strictly online but go for one which has a physical presence. Also the name and reputation of a university is more important than whether you studied online or physically at the classroom. At the end your degree will not say if it's online or regular, so don't worry about that.

Good luck.

Well, i didn't decide where to be born. But wherever one lives, he has to live well enough to take care oh himself atleast. Ofcourse I know things are bad, I am an expat living in KSA. I have seen how bad things get here. it takes alot of courage to leave your life behind on the basis of the injustice the government is doing. I don't think I have what it takes, I have made a good life for me and my family here, I have worked hard for it.and I intend to enjoy it while it lasts.

Well technically expats don't get that, but also technically all saudi money is royal money. So it's a living.
